To my amazement I am in my early 70’s and just recently I have thought back to memories and realized how many years ago some events are. And it doesn’t seem possible.

Did you like any of the mechanical pencils? I love to get Japanese art supplies and then can’t figure out how to put ink in the pens, etc.
Barbara Cartland was Princess Di’s godmother. She wrote historical romances. She wrote them while reclining on a chai se lounge (reclining couch) with two secretaries sitting behind her. She dictated to them and they took the story down in shorthand (a series of letters and symbols) and typed the work out for her. I don’t define these things from any sense of superiority. There is no reason for young people to know them but just as historical factoids. Or, one of you might want to write a historical novel set in the 50’s lol.
Looked up chaise lounge. Dispute Amazon, not pool furniture. Luxurious stuffed couches.
I think I like the simpler, more sleek mechanical pencil(s), they seem to work just as well, and there’s less moving parts to break. Some of them seem over complicated.

I read her book as the graphic novel. I have liked you for a long time now, you have inspired my own drawings. Love to listen to your thoughts.
Hullo Peter, I remember having 4 clutch pencils from Drafting class and I have different weight leads or graphite sticks! I switched quite a bit but always started with 4B, HB, H, 4H and I had the 10 or 12 choice range but mostly drew with these 4 choices. I do enjoy your chat along with you drawings! Thanks Peter. Speaking of the passage of time made me think of how present you have been on mine through your videos. Often times as a source of relaxation/relief during difficult moments. Thanks a lot for being out there for so long, hope to keep watching you for many more years.

When you get older the past and reflections of your life become in some ways more important then before.
Less stress, chasing around making ends meet , at old age time kind of slows down in my opinion.
Thinking back 40-50 years on moments and adventures is very easy for me, people I meet, women I loved and certain adventures still very clear in details.
Doesn't seem that long ago actually, reading old journals or looking thru a photo-album brings back the memories directly.
Reflections of the past on your life journey, going thru the "bucket list" what is left to chase before your time is over.
Thanks for bringing mechanical pencils in this video, I had to dig up two "old ones" in my desk drawer and scribble little bit, Ballograf made some good ones by the way Peter. 🙂
I like that you've been using pencil a bit more regularly. This drawing has so much to look at, I really enjoy it.
My top 3 mechanical pencils, that I use the most: Rotring 600, Pentel Dr. Grip, and Zebra M-301. And yeah, To Kill a Mockingbird is one of those school books that's good even if you're not in school. Wish I could write a book that every 10th grader has to read, every year, in every school.
Unrelated to the video: I just realized that this is the longest channel I still follow. I started watching when I was in college, around 2012-2013. I don't remember any other channel that I used to watch back then that I still watch it today. Maybe "Deep Sky Videos", but they almost don't upload anymore. Some channels from that time, that I would still watch (Glove and Boots) disappeared, some are still active but I am not interested anymore. For some reason, Peter Stays.

Realizing the child actors from my 20s had become older middle aged people was kind of a rude awakening. Also that there were people who lived during the civil war who were still alive when Iwas born. Time is weird. I like how well you shaded your drawing. Seems like you're making good friends with graphite.
The Tombow Mono Graph (Shaker) extends the lead when you shake it. The "lead lock" is there so the lead doesn't extend when not in use.
As a for'ner, I appreciate a cultured video with literary bent!
And I have indeed heard about these fäbled classics: Tequila mockingbird and Eye robots
Barbara Cartland was also a pretty good artist too and had an astonishing amount of energy.

My favourite mechanical pencils are the Kaweco Special S 2.0, the Kaweco Sport 3.2, and my Pilot Metropolitan ?0.7
This drawing is so soft and satisfying.
Which is anti-graphite and not allowed.
What you're looking at isn't graphite.
It's a hard wax substance.
You draw so lightly you FAILED to reach the grading of the pencil ✏️.
You didn't put enough lead onto the paper to reach the HB or 4B minimum requirements.
You drew so lightly there wasn't enough graphite deposited onto the paper.

gonna be that one stationery nut here but jetpens covers the functions of the delguard and the monograph in their "over engineered mechanical pencils" video. i have both of the delguard and the monograph and they're both absolutely great! the uni leads are also wonderful because they're generally built to minimize smudging in comparison to most other leads out there so you can draw and write with them without as much smudging which is great! i'd recommend looking into those items' "selling points" and functions so you can maximize the use of them.

I have the Tombow MONO graph pencil as well! I've had it for years now and it's still working. I'm not sure what the shaking feature does as I do not understand Japanese. Pushing the clip down gives you more lead, pushing it upwards lock it. Yeah you gotta push it haha, I do it with my thumb

Its shake to advance lead, and the lock is to stop lead from advancing when it shakes

So the reason a lot of places tear off the covers is so the books/magazines cant be resold. Where I work has us do that
At a time of recycling, up cycling and reusing, this seems pretty selfish and out of date.
4000 books... I guess I can do one then.
Her “friends” included Truman Capote, so it’s not like she just had some normie buddies encouraging her to write a novel. She had an extremely literate and connected group of people that helped her get her book published. In fact there is speculation that he was the author of To Kill a Mockingbird.

From what I’ve read it seems like it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer

The bookstores tear off the covers and send the covers to the publishers to get credit back for certain books. It is actually against the law to take those books or have those books. Just letting you know.

I was alive in 1985. Good old days where you could roam around the back seat of a car as a kid and sit in your parents lap and pretend to drive.
that one curl keeps shifting. VERY distracting.
NO!
REALISE you're laying down a thick layer of graphite and preserving wax.
Your whole surface must be covered in a decent layer of material.
There must be a layer so it can be conserved later on.
You test the thickness of the layer by seeing the silver reflections off the graphite.
If you draw lightly, you never put down enough material to form a layer.
Your markings don't reach the grade set by the manufacturers.
Your 2B pencil marks failed to reach the 2B standard.
You put down a lot of binder material to get enough graphite onto the paper.
The whole page must shine from all the graphite sitting on the surface and its preserved in a mix of binding wax substance.
Might not have been safe but I'm still here and many others. Kids are coddled and catered to too much these days. I've got twins. Theyre doing great. And before any crazies get on me. They use their car seats and all of that. I'm just asking is all of that necessary when your max speed in a city is about 15 mph. Takes 45 minutes to travel 2.7 miles..
