    The biblical quote is "The LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil". So it's more like always wanting more and more money and never being satisfied. Greed is basically what it's talking about. That's completely different than having comfortably enough money and never being worried about finances.

    Yup. Im not rich but I came from nothing. Got my first small home. Got a better job, got a "better" bigger home. Many rooms, fireplace,pool. Motorcycles. Now I just want a smaller house and do my hobbies. But yea money is important wether people want to admit it or not.

    My dad, the stockbroker, was a huge admirer of the mutual fund. He explained that Wall Street is just like Las Vegas. In Vegas you can place individual bets and sometimes those bets pay off and pay off handsomely; that's the bait that lures people into betting on the games. But the house always wins in the end. Similarly, you can bet on individual stocks and sometimes those bets pay off and pay off handsomely, but the market always wins in the end. Investing in a no-load, low-cost index fund gives you the opportunity to bet on the house. You don't care about the individual bets, you are invested in the game itself. Statistically, nobody who holds a broad index has ever lost money over the course of seven years; which seems to be the minimum holding period (although 'permanent' a la Warren Buffet is even better).

    5 dollar shoes from estate sales. Men's slip-ons work great for country girl gardener and paid housekeeper. Usually brand new never worn. I'm tall and built strong so men's plaids and flannels work fine. Jeans are for everybody. Cheap granny phone 28 bucks a month, no mgs, no text, Just calls and alarm clock. Cook your own food. I would love to see videos on people like me who watch Dave Ramsey and have zero debt and who "get it" about not needing stuff and shopping. I am 70 and work in a vegan cafe and marketplace. A co-worker told me that she couldn't believe I didn't want to buy such and such (a new pinch me) item in the store because I have money. I should have said the reason many people have money is because they do not need to buy much! I hope I am making sense. I sold the home I lived in 31 years in California. Everything I own is now in my Xterra or in my room. Now that I am renting, I want to find a condo that is cutely fully furnished so I can just move in and live. I found one in Winston-Salem, NC but it was gone in a minute.

    I take a couple of terms from this video: personal priorities (what is it that matters/important to me) and the concept of “enough.” For me, I want to be comfortable and definitely I want to feel secure financially. I used to spent money here and there and it wasn’t h til I started decluttering (some years ago) that I noticed the wasteful way I was living my life. Nowadays, what I “collect” is memories with family and by traveling. Enjoying life is goal but it doesn’t mean wasting or overspending… thanks for this video…

    No idea who spread the ridiculous idea that minimalism is for the rich; the less income you have (me in retirement, or just a thankless job with terrible pay and no benefits) the more it behooves one to spend far less, more wisely, to “retrench” and put a magnifying glass on your expenses.
    What you’re paying for, why, when, how often. The less you have, the more you appreciate what you have. And the less desire you have to fill up limited space inside with useless, unsatisfying junk.
    And “lifestyle creep” is absolutely right. I didn’t waste money on stupid crap like a brand-new Camaro because I needed it, but because I convinced myself I earned it (through decades of hard, unsatisfying work) and I wanted vindication of that effort. Money I’ll never get back, and as nice as stuff like that was…nothing but headaches, and a huge loss when trading in or getting rid of such stupid choices, vs. meaningful lasting ones.

    I really liked your line. "Once you get to a certain point, theres no more things to buy."
    I kinda went through that probably about 7 years ago. I came from a poor family, and I started out with nothing. Struggled a lot. There's a lot of people who were worse off for sure. But it took me a while to not only be ok with spending money. But in getting the things I wanted & discovering what that was once I made enough. When you're poor, you may have lots of interests, but the concern is how do I afford food. Not.. oh, skiing looks fun. Let me try that. Several years ago, there was a point where I was like. Now what? It felt really weird. Because I had always lived not having enough. Not the "I want more." But in the i actually need more. There was a point where I kinda got everything I needed. And finally could get a few toys I wanted. And then I was like now what?
    It's the thing that started me researching what people do with money. And I found investing. And it's been so much fun. But yes theres definitely a point where you hit. This is enough. And it's a really weird place to be.

    I’ll never understand how so-called investors advise you to not pay off your house. Typically 50% or more of your mortgage payment is just going to pay for interest and is a total loss to you. When you have no mortgage, you have all of that interest that you don’t have to pay out plus the entirety of your mortgage payment that you can then invest and get a greater return on then if you’re paying interest on a 30 year loan. And if you pay your house off quickly, you have a much longer time. To invest that larger some of money maximizing compound growth.

    • @GabeBult
      @GabeBult  2 месяца назад +1

      It comes down to math mostly. If your loan is at 4% and you can earn 8% then even with paying that interest your missing out on way more money.

    • @jaybone8119
      @jaybone8119 2 месяца назад +1

      @@GabeBult Exactly, no loan = no 4% interest paid. Bought my house on a 15 yr mortgage that I paid off in 7yr. Eliminated roughly 80k in interest payments. Now all that money can collect the 8% in interest plus I don’t have a mortgage. I can’t even imagine what the interest payments are on house prices now. So basically I’m saying don’t pay the 4% interest use that money to collect the 8% on investments.

      Imagine how many people you could help if your goal was to earn a lot of money. Money is not good or bad, it just acts as an amplifyer of the character you have. Imagine how great the world would be if every "good" person would be a multimillionaire? IMHO everybody should try to earn the most money possible to be able to give the most possible. Seeing money as evil is actually very selfish.

    Well, i tried multiple times to buy more expensive, well established brands. In the end, it broke down shortly after warranty ended and cost me much more than the cheaper alternative which lasted almost equally long. I find it so hard to find good quality stuff nowadays because quality of well established brands has deteriorated a lot and you can see many reviews are either bullshit (3 words dont help me!), fake or bought ("review in return for free product").
    Especially when it comes to clothing, its also right now not affordable for me due to changing sizes (pregnancys and health issues), even with a minimalist wardrobe. I struggle a lot with the less but better.
