a) This is beautiful
b) This solves a dilemma I've had for TWO YEARS about how to get a shelf in the wall behind my front door! Thanks Danie
How is the hole in your wall? Coming along nicely?
😬 I’m sure it will work out…
Seriously, I bet it will be great!
Lol!
No turning back now!!! That's one way to get things done!!!
@@pama.6410 I've been wanting the brick wall in my kitchen done with the German schmear technique for 10 years. My husband has recently started watching Danie with me. I told him if he comes home & my hair is lavender (currently white), he'd better watch out for a total kitchen tear out!!
Nooks and crannies give a home so much character. What a lovely way to add to yours! Nice job, Danie.
From the first 3 words, I thought you were talking about Animal Crossings
I have lots of little cubbies/ nooks that my husband built into walls for me. I love them! Most of them are small areas which made it very hard to spackle, but they look awesome holding just one item or a small collection. We also did a recessed mirror in the foyer! Everyone loves it!
This turned out amazing! Congrats on finding that home reno unicorn: opening up a wall and it NOT turning out to be full of HVAC, electrics, plumbing, or mice 😆
I can relate to this! We really wanted to add some built-in storage in my kids' bathroom behind the vanity, but when we opened the wall, there were pipes and wires everywhere, and just no way it would happen.
Nothing short of impressive! I also love how the wooden shelves extend past the opening.
Right?! I love it too!
@@DIYDanie Yes! The shelves look like what you see in very old homes in places like Italy where the shelves are built into the plaster walls.
Usually 1/4" drywall is used with scoring of the back much closer together on the arch to create a smoother arching. That said, I like that the shelves are built in and it adds interest to your home's kitchen area. You have great design instincts. Your reworking of your spaces are really creative and livable.
Thanks for that tip, she didn't spend a lot of time or camera work on that part of it and I had all the questions...
I actually love that the arch doesn't look perfectly smooth - it makes it look like it's been there for a lot longer. Especially when you take it in with your beam on the ceiling, it looks original. Love it!
Me, living in a country where houses are often made of brick... Hard pass! 😂
This looks gorgeous. The brass rails are the perfect touch.
Same. Haha. But I've been nervous to paint an arch 🤣
The arch is not very deep, you can build it on the surface of the wall.
My goodness Danie you NEVER cease to amaze! The shelf looks so professional and magazine worthy.
My Saturday Evening chill time - diy danie and alexendra gater ❤️
Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame! 👍👍
ME TOOOOO !!
With the exception that I watch in bed with my morning coffee ☕️ (and my dogs-that should not be on the bed). First things FIRST!
Best thing you've done in your house EVER!! I'm in love with the shelves passing over the sides and the fact that its not perfect is what makes it so perfect to me! Congrats Danny, you knocked it out the park! Love always, from Johannesburg, South Africa 🤩💖
I have to ask you guys, do you know about "Ain't Gonna Play Sun City"? Little Steven of Bruce Springstein's band started a boycott to end apartheid. I never hear anyone mention it, only Nelson Mandela. Little Steven is still alive and I think he deserves props.
*Danie
The fact that it isn’t as smooth in the arch adds so much character though, like it’s made waaaay back when, and just very handmade :))
Thank you for the words of encouragement for people like me who fear an ugly, unprofessional outcome. What's funny is that I just had an epiphany this year regarding that very thing. I said to myself, "Why should you expect a professional looking outcome when it's your first attempt ever?!" Lol! I realized how silly I'd been, and that the only way to get better is to practice. Right now, I have a number of projects that need finishing touches (stain). I've made a plant bench, a hanging plant tray as well as a plant "stool" with leftover material. Just to get away from the plant theme, I also made a bath tray. Yes, they're all simple, and if someone should see them they'd be kind of meh about it. It doesn't stop me from being proud of what I've accomplished. (I left off my fireplace rehab. That one has me a bit overwhelmed at the moment.) Thank you for another great video!
Keep chipping away! Break that fireplace job into little jobs. You've got this!
@@pama.6410 Thank you! I'm determined to complete it. It's just so hard getting paint out of all the nooks and crannies! 😭
I now want to cut a hole in the wall of every room in my house.
Caution advised when the house is owned by one or more (indoor) cats 🤭
I love built in shelving. My husband and I did something similar when we closed off the extra door on a jack and Jill bathroom.
You. Are a beast. In the best possible way. Thank you being a woman who uses power tools and showing us how while also making us laugh ❤️❤️
If I had my own home, I would T O T A L L Y do this!! You said arch and I saw you making cuts in the drywall to do it, then you said and did it. lol You NAILED it bestie!! I love it!!
I love this. Reminds me how older houses sometimes had niches like this for a home telephone. I’d love to do this with a wall outlet to charge cell phones.
My grandfather's home had one of those back in the day and I loved it. It was in the hall by the bedrooms. I was thinking how I'd love doing something like that in my 67 year old home but it's plaster and lathe so I'm really not prepared if something goes wrong. Too scared.
I swear we are related somehow. I have ALWAYS wanted to do something like this and I own like a hammer and maybe a handsaw. 🤣 This came out great!! And guess what! Monday my husband and I are going to be buying a home!!!! So I better get some more tools because MY HOME NEEDS THIS!! Thank you for all your encouragement and inspiration and goofiness. You're my people for sure. 💖💖💖
I think it's amazing. You've got me looking around at my walls wondering where I could do the same thing!
II's beautiful, and I love your "Embrace the imperfections" mindset. I want to make one! Especially into the gallery rails.
I have a time-saving tip for your next drywall project: 20-minute mud is a game-changer for being able to save nearly a day of drying time. You can't use it for your final coat - doesn't sand as easy - but it is brilliant for the first coat. I buy it dry and just mix as much as I need. Vancouver Carpenter is my favourite RUclipsr for drywall advice - he's made me a much better drywaller.
Oh WOW!! It looks beautifully awesome!! Literally hanging sheet rock today in master bedroom reno!! Using my Grandmothers antique kitchen buffet for double sink vanity in master bath. Have a space between mirrors and sconces above vanity, and since I still have that wall to build....i'm gonna use your DIY and make an insert between mirrors!! OH......MY.....GOSH!!! IT'S GONNA BE AMAZING!! So wish I could send pics to you!! You have inspired me to do that little extra to make my hubby and my forever home a special "getaway" that we will enjoy for years to come!! Keep bringing us these great ideas!! I LOVE them!!
Send photos to her IG !
Oh no! I really liked that spoon wall art! But the alcove is also really beautiful and I appreciate it if peoples’ home design is dictated by the love for their pets.
Wow! This diy rocks haaaaard!!
I got to say, halftime into the video I realized how much I needed your positive and creative spirit today. Thank you fo that.
PS: I may not start a diy this weekend, but after the video I got up from the couch,re-arranged some shelving and voila! A designated coffee/tea bar was born. Thanks Danie. Truly. ❤
Love what you did. I would like either to add a transom above the door to my powder room or do a cut through and add stain glass to add natural light to the space.
Me too, I have an interior bath with no window. Ick
I did it. #1 again your skills and imagination is just remarkable. As usual your videos as just so great, thanks fir sharing.
You win! 🎉
@@DIYDanie woohoo
Dear Danie, I come from Slovakia, Bratislava and I have been watching you and your diy projects for some time ... Just wanted to tell you that you are so inspiring, love your work
keep on diying!
with love Lucia
I start my Saturdays with DIY Danie, a bagel, and a cold coffee (cuz I need the caffeine but can't handle hot first thing) ...what a great start to the day! I was wondering just what magic you were going to do to get the arched top...kerfing drywall, never would have thought of that. I love a good niche in the wall, nothing sticking out to get knocked off and extra display/storage space.
I LOVE it! What really sold me on my current house is that it has an old fashioned arched nook in the wall for a telephone, as well as an arched opening between the dining room and kitchen. 1950's charm.
Dani, this is b-e-a-utiful! Well done. I love it! And your enthusiasm/how proud of yourself you were is just giving me life! 😎😁🥰🤘
Also, your editor needs a big fat raise! This was very well put together. 👍
My dream project come true!!!! And the gallery rails.... GORGEOUS 😍 ❤🎉
Is an easy way to curve drywall is to wet one side bend it, then let it dry into the curve. You might have to do it a few times to get that tight of a curve. There is also 1/4" drywall that might work better. You did a great job with the materials that you had.
Dani, I LOVE your pocket hole jig. I haven’t built things big enough to warrant one, but I WANT one! 😍 These shelves turned out beautifully!
EVERYONE SHOULD GET A POCKET HOLE JIG ♥️
Your hair has been super gorgeous in recent videos. It's always beautiful but this new style is really working for ya!
The imperfections make this project PERFECT! Absolutely love how the arc looks a little imperfect, which makes it look like it has been there from the start and has adjusted with the house 🏠 The wood extending past the drywall is a nice touch! This is one of those projects I feel like I could take inspiration from and tackle myself, if I didn’t live in an apartment lol
There’s a PnR scene where Ron does a sweeping underhand punch while declaring “Viiiinnnnndddeeeccccaaatiiiooonnn!” that’s my go to for righteous success. I used that gesture on your behalf along with you. This has me inspired to punch into my attic space behind my desk chair.
This is BEAUTIFUL!! Probably one of my favorites of your diys.
11 out of 10. Simply amazing and now I need to do this in my home.
Oh, my God, you’re the best start to my Saturday. I live to see you early in the morning. I have this idea on my mind for my bathroom. I have wanted to remodel for a long time.
I always love your energy, creativity, and aesthetic, but this time I just need to mention how great your hair looks! Love it! Of course as always the project is to die for!
I adore you. Your character first and everything you create
I know you hear this ALL the time but you are AMAZING as always! What a beautiful shelf. You’re so talented. ADORE your content!🥰❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Love it! I hated some of the 80s/90s useless niches but this 😘. Such a beautiful and useful niche. I'd definitely do one by a back door or as a spice rack in the kitchen. I'm looking at all my walls differently now.
So dope! I'm adding a wall with a door & wall shelves on each side of the door to enclose a 3 wall room today. I revisited this video for inspiration. When I frame the wall w/ door, I'll also frame out the window-like area for the wall shelves on each side of the door. I'll go back & fill those in with sheetrock, shelves & gallery rails afterwards. Love, love, love this. Never done anything like this before today, but you've inspired me.🎉
Love this Danie! Years ago I cut a hole in the wall behind my bathroom door and created a tall medicine cabinet. I didn’t drywall it in, but instead made a box to fit. Screwed it into the studs, added glass shelves and used a wood carving from Bali as the door. It was one of my proudest DIYs.
You are a woman after my own heart. I viewed many videos on how to do a wall nook in my bedroom and your video was by far the best. Simple and straight to the point. Easy to follow and understand. I'm going for it, wish me luck.. Thank you for your informative video. you are awesome and funny. Gayle B. South Carolina
I love this! I’ve always wanted to do this! I just didn’t know where to begin.
It’s perfect. I think it adds so much character to your room.
Danie!!! Girl such an amazing job and then you even went bigger with the brass rails!!! This is so beautiful and so professional, you must be so proud! ❤️😍❤️😍
Danie, you should be extremely proud of the nook! Oh all the future joys you're going to have with different decor! And loved the pep talking to us to try things! Thanks!
Looks absolutely fantastic...
I think you should add a teeny tiny, flush mount, remote controlled light inside the arch to add a soft glow at night
Absolutely gorgeous!! I wanted to try this in my hallway a long time ago but couldn’t convince my husband. I just might try it and show him this video! As always you are a joy to watch! ❤️
Danie! I love your spirit, I wish you could spread it around the world. That shelf is phenomenal, so chic. Love you and DIY's will be subscribing.
Thank you Gary 💜✌️
It’s beautiful, Danie. Truly. It looks hand hewn in a 150 yr old kinda way. DIYers would kill to achieve that level of perfection.❤️❤️❤️
Wow I love it. So much better than the spoons display, not that there was anything wrong with the spoons. I have always loved built ins. Thanks so much for sharing.
Wow, Danie! I love it! That is definitely a Kenobi-free winner!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 if you can't tell already I love the result but I love your excitement even more! It is always worth it if one is so happy afterwards. keep going, Danie!
Our owner and landlord of our apartment build an inset shelf in the bathroom next to the sink and i love it. Normally we only had closed storage in the bathroom and therefore not a much decor, but now i can style this shelf!
You won me with Dashboard Confessional!😄❤️
mornin’ ❤️kenobi!
Mernin' Joyce! ☀️
It is so fabulous. What a perfect spot for it. Looks like it was always there.
I love how the wood sits. I love the imperfection. I love the rails. Arrgg it's amazing!!
I haven’t watched the video yet but I am SOOOOO jazzed at this project as I have a plan to do the same thing and I love that I can watch you do it Before I give it a go!!!!! Yay!
It looks great. It has alot of character which matches your house so much. A tip for anyone who wants to do this is to use 1/4 drywall and when you cut the backside of the drywall make the cuts closer together for a smoother look. You will need two people to help you install it because it will be like a wet noodle lol. You did awsome Danie
Beautifully done! This is a Pokémon challenge run for DIY! That said, I respect the power of an excited dog’s tail, so the battle may not be over yet. 😀
That is SO TOTALLY BEAUTIFUL 🤩! I love built in niche walls with shelving.
I just love arches! It might be cool to paint that bit of wall green to help solve your green-to-white trim transition dilemma and make it pop!
This has nothing to do with shelves, but those clogs in your kitchen holding plants…. *genius* I’ve had a pair of wooden clogs I thrifted for a LONG time and hadn’t figured out what to do with them and now I know EXACTLY what to do with them!!! Also the shelf turned out gorgeous! Definitely a new subscriber here!!! 👋🏻
Stunning! It is the perfect size and shape and location, it really draws your eyes into that area with the beam above. My husband is going to be so annoyed when I suggest we do this in our entry way, the bathroom, the dining room, the...
The gallery railing really completes it. Great job Danie!
Love this! Watching this process so satisfying and inspiring. You’re amazing 🤩
You're amazing! I think the TINY imperfections make it look even better and original to an older home. Love love love it
Coffee Pal every Saturday morning 🙋♀️☕️
Sip sip!
This turned out spectacularly!!
I do not understand why you're not at 1 million subscribers! I look forward to your content all week long! This was so inspirational. I loved it. Thank you so much for sharing with us each week❣️
This shelf is absolutly beautiful. OMG I wish, I just had a little bit of your talent. ❤️💐
You CAN! Just believe in yourself ✨
Oh wow 👏 this looks amazing. I love love love how the shelf looks like its fixed into the wall on the sides
I love this Danie!!!! And thanks so much for the encouragement to every creative! You are such a talented and precious person!💐
Yes - I would put a build in wall shelf in my home. Buit ins are the bomb.
Big wheels, keep on turning' Proud Danie keeps ya'll learning..........we're.rollin'> rollin'> rollin' on the DIY river ..fits the space perfectly 🤩
It looks like it has always been there. Like the telephone nooks in old houses. You did an amazing job! It turned out awesome. ⭐
I think this is one of my favourite projects that you've done. It looks so elegant.
Stunning! The spoons were cool, but this is even better👌🏼 I agree that the "not perfect" leans into the age of the house.
Amazing job, Danie! Love how you take risks to make your creative ideas a reality.
Absolutely gorgeous!!! You are so talented.
Danie, what a great project! The brass gallery rails elevate the entire project. Kudos to you!
I'm impressed! It looks really good. I've never done anything like that either, but now I'm looking around my house for a space to put in a recessed shelf. What a great idea and it looks so good.
You can be proud !!!! It is stunning 👍😎🐕🦺
This is one of my favorite projects you've ever done!
This gave me inspo to make one by bathroom vanity, and add some funky tiles in the back 😍. Let the planning commence!!!
I'm so impressed by your carpentry skills!!
It looks amazing! The top being the way it is actually goes so well with the beam above it! Looks so much more natural that way!
I love this hole in your wall. It makes so much fun to watch this video and how happy you are about that. ☺️☺️
This is the coolest 😎 skill - to make a recessed feature wall that WAS just a boring flat spot! 🤯 If I could...I would 👍🏻
Looks great! My compliment is… it looks like it came with the house… like it was always there! ☀️😎🇨🇦
I have always loved the Arched Nook! where everyone else is taking them out I think yours turned out wonderful.
I enjoy my Saturday morning watching your channel and my coffee. You always do different things for all your viewers to enjoy. ☺️
Absolutely beautiful and adds more character. You just make it look so easy
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤ 🎀 ❤ 🎀 ❤
I ❤ this so much!! My son asked for something like this in his room. I am so excited to tackle this project.
Daniie, that shelf is amazing, lady. I love it so much.
Also, if I may have a wee DIY suggestion: something to cover up that alarm panel, it's a bit of an eyesore. Maybe something like them key storage cabinets, but backless?
Gooood Evening, Danie! 💗
soooo ready for another video! ☺️🤗
