Best of luck with your projects and adventures, thanks for watching.
I have used both for many years. It’s weight and durability makes the pressed oven best for travelling while cast iron for home is awesome. I love the doughnut ring for baking little spuds just under the coal covered lid(also a frypan). I also use it to make a fire in when it’s windy and use the lid to put it out. I’ve even carried the fire to another camp site when I was going to bed for them to toast some marshmallows. It’s always onboard. I oil it with paper towel and leave those pieces in the cloth storage bag to be used as fire lighters when it gets pulled out next time 😉
Great video, thank you. I haven't seen the stamped steel version before, fascinating history. We have used cast iron for years. It's tremendous to cook on but yes very heavy.
The cast iron oven makes a great peach cobbler on the hot coals. Everyone in camp will be your best friend!
Personal experience! Lol
I can taste it right now!👌😋
One of our must cook in the bush we do it every time
New subscriber here. Love the channel. I learned to off-road in a 1967 Nissan Patrol. It had manual locking hubs, an optional hand crank start, a manual transmission, and a clutch so hard to depress, I'd swear it came from an old tractor. Not a single modern "traction control" device of any kind. I drive a modern off-road vehicle now but I really miss that rig! My off-roading friend had a similar circa Land Rover. Great video and info on the camp ovens!
Really glad to hear you are enjoying the channel.I have soft spot for the G60, they are a great car and spent a lot of my childhood in a MQ Patrol. Kind regards, Geoff
You forgot to mention that you can use the lid of the spun steel one as a frypan. I don't own one but have seen it done. Could be a space saver.
Definitely space saver been using mine for years
Great info Geoff. Be careful with Wandoo or Gimlet as it will melt a camp oven .... haha :) Regards from the Pilbara ( VKS737 Mobile 2161 ).
I have a spun steel one and I felt it was too lightweight and it just burnt all the food I tried to cook in it because it had a lot less thermal mass but idk just went and bought a 9 quart cast pot and haven't had any issues with it
You are the number one man, l wondered why everyone was treating me like i had the plague because l have a cheap peasant cast oven. Where abouts do you store your spun steel one at night
Hi Greg. I keep it close to the fire, you never know when you need to whip up a quick damper. Cheers Geoff
A bedourie oven is spun steel but has a lid that goes down over the side of the oven and has no lip to hold coals
Hi Peter. Different style, I agree, though same material. Cheers Geoff
Have you figured out 'Bedourie' doesn't have an N or an L in it yet and that yours isn't even one? 😁🤙
This one is a limited version ‘Bendoolie’
Bendoolie, WTF.
Cast iron or nothing
Bendoolie, this guy can't be serious, surely! Get with it and get your facts right champ. Bedourie is a township in central west QLD. Drover's on pack horses at Bedourie staion utilised the bedourie camp oven over cast iron due to weight and breakage.
This guy has no bloody idea, Just another jerk who thinks he's a world beater.
