I have the 4BD1T in my 110 and love it. I'm going to try adding engine compartment sound and heat detoning to the underside of the hood and inside of the fenders to see if it helps with the loud noise of that engine.
Shame they can't build a engine that dosent break cranks or have the timing chain on the gearbox end or just fails within 60000 mies what a joke landrover is now
@MegaReddevil71 you can blame the CEOs and Acountents for that im a Mechanic and I would have them all SHOT then we would build a moter that would last one million ks as long as you change the oil goog quality of cors well maintained
😂 the nvh though.... I lament the lack of 2 more cylinders whilst keeping it a 3.9 and the current overall dimensions. Curse the men who agreed a large 4cyl diesel was the go.. 😂
So the key to reliability is keeping power levels below 25kW & 75Nm per liter. lol. 1.9L VW puts out similar power, weighs half as much, and uses half the fuel. Even that is 25yr old cheap & reliable stuff at this point.
I was wondering how this is possible. Anything from LR is bomb proof if 6yr old phart is consideted a nuke. Isuzu - yeah, industrial grade .. sure. Anything but LR.

I am surprised a reliable British engine well it is obvious that these diesel engines were used many years ago were Land Rovers with these diesel engines in them are doing over 1000000 kilometres now thats reliability and deserve the name bomb proof you can't beat you tube for learning something new every day and l do like reliability in any vehicle because l own and drive a 1997 Toyota Hilux 2X4 ute with the reliable 22R engine under the bonnet l even think any vehicle that can archive 500000 kilometres as reliable as in the Mahindra PikUp and Scorpio
Guys, why don't you start by telling us its a diesel, who makes it, and what its capacity and HP/Torque is..........and why Land Rover chose it........ Thanks, Frank
Great vid. Have one with 700k on the clock and still don't need to add oil between changes
Great stuff Geoff 900 + K from my old County 4BD1. regards from the Pilbara.
Judging by the man's ear, I'd say he can look after himself. This is an enjoyable and informative video.
Great video Geoff. Brad and you know your stuff.

I do miss my '86 110 with the 4BD1. Not a smooth, or powerful engine, but bloody solid.
Land Rover should have been fitting these motors to all of the Diesel engine range in the Defenders 😊

Boy, do we wish the Isuzu lump was available in UK. Nearest is 4JG2 out of the Trooper.
Is putting a turbo and an inter cooler on this engine
Just as solid as the 4jb1t.
If they need to freeze the cylinder sleeve to install it, how do they remove one?
Can you do the td5 aswell
SDV8✔️

Best thing about Land Rover Land Rover hasn’t touched 😂
The only actual failure I have seen is the camshaft key failed. Only on one engine.
Hi guys. Weren't these engines originally made by Isuzu?
Yes, it is a isuzu engine. They were fitted into the military spec land rovers as well as some civilian county’s
Nobody added the part about the engine being built by Isuzu.....
I like the 4bd1, very strong motor but they're Fucking LOUD, I'll stick with my 300tdi. Cheers
Turn up the radio. 🙉🙈🙏🦘
@@grahameroberts8109what radio? Haha
I bought AirPods just for Perentie highway driving. Always use them if above 80kph for extended time.

It's ironic that the best engine in a Land Rover is from Isuzu.

They didn't. JRA (Jaguer Rover Australia) chose the Isuzu engine.
Probably should mention that it's not a Land Rover engine at all - it's an Isuzu.
There is no such thing dreaming
Guy with the glasses should stop talking about anything technical.
