Jez, you are the guitar player I’ve been looking for. I love the way you explain everything on your site and how you play that guitar. I love rockabilly. Thank you!
Hey Jez, great stuff man, keep it up. I'm 75 now, so you were playing some of the earliest RnR music I listened to. Sort of cut my teeth on it! Thank you.
So just the other day someone noticed my guitars hanging on my wall and asked what music I like to play, I said (in spanish) 1950’s rock and roll. Yet I haven’t touched my guitars since I was in my twenties!!! Then I found you bro! My father who grew up in the 50’s taught me these riffs when I was a teenager but I never had them explain to me. I just followed his lead and sang along. He’s gone now and I am glad your vids have brought me back to playing some guitar again!!!! Thanks !!!!
After a great Tutorial # 1 Thank's a lot you for this second instructive and clear new lesson. You are a excellent teacher ! I guess that the many years you have been of playing guitar have certainly to do with it. Thank again.
Thanks very much Bill! 😄 I'm glad you found it useful. If you're interested, I just uploaded another rock 'n' roll guitar tutorial: ruclips.net/video/wCAF3Qqzr6c/видео.html
Wow, this is a fantastic series of rock n' roll lessons, really well made, clear and detailed without fluff and the chart with the notes starting at 8:48 was an eye-opener too. Very helpful, thank you!
@@RocknRollSongbook I'm just finding u I love u. I love u. I ❤ you I brevet I'm gonna actually learn from these. Did I say. I ❤ 😍 💖 I'm interested. The 50s book
You're welcome! And thanks for the request. First I'm producing a few of these videos in which I teach general rock 'n' roll guitar techniques, and then I plan to make some tutorials for specific songs (which reference the techniques taught in the general technique videos). One of the first I plan to make is a tutorial for 'Great Balls Of Fire' -- how's that sound?? :D
I just cant stretch my fingers this far, I play like Bb with my third finger spread across three strings and pinky struggling on a note below , anyways your videos are a treasure
Once again I only spotted you yesterday but very useful, understandable and fun. Do you dampen the top 3 or the E and B when strumming up and down. I can just wondering if you do. Keep up the cool songs 😎
Thanks Chris! I'm only hitting the bass strings (4th, 5th and 6th) with my pick when playing this stuff -- you need to angle your pick so that you don't catch the higher strings. But yes, I suppose I do touch the higher strings (which stops them ring out) with my first finger as it reaches over to the bass strings. I hope that makes sense! - Jez
Thanks very much Ray! Yes, you can play like this on electric guitar. In fact, this kind of guitar style is usually played on electric. There aren't really any clear 'rules' ...except: 'If it sounds good, do it'.
That's great Jez but if you have small hands like me it's not so easy if not impossible to do and I've been trying for 40years! Had to find other ways to get a similar sound
I really struggle with bending my fingers for this kind of power chord especially in the small frets. So if anybody has got any tipps for stretching or expanding, just let me know ... I would love to play these rhytms.
It's difficult to give a short answer to that question. Playing scales or instrumental pieces that require you to use all four fingers independently is a good idea. If playing songs using open chords, try to play songs in several different keys, so you end up using your fingers differently all the time. Similarly, whilst three chord songs are great, you can improve dexterity by playing songs that have five or more chords. Try to learn and practice any new things slowly and carefully. Lots and lots of repetition of new things you learn is necessary. It probably gets more difficult to improve finger dexterity as you get older, but it can be done.
Just found this video. The note pairs exercise isn't something I've ever done, but I think it's a really good idea: ruclips.net/video/OVtew9_O8Z4/видео.html
I always get a blast from the past when I hear you playin that rock and roll machine!
Thanks very much Glen!

Will be my project for exercise during staying home situation in Jakarta. Cheers from Indonesia.

could you make a video of the style of buddy holly?
I was thinking of doing one actually. 😊
I like rokabilly and through this I beginn to like rock and roll too
Well, rockabilly is a really a type of rock 'n' roll.
Great Stuff Jez. Is there anything wrong with this style on an electric guitar or just the same? I don't wanna break the Rules....Tks. Ray

I’m a Fan! Want to ask what kind of pick you’re using? Thanks!
Thanks Gerry! I use .46 mm Delrin Jim Dunlop (pink) picks
Brill - thanks. My pandies are just a lickel too small to do this one with comfort :-(
Keep trying. 😃 I know players with small hands who manage eventually. It’s easier on electric guitar.
Just found vyou very nice
Thanks very much Robert!
I really struggle with bending my fingers for this kind of power chord especially in the small frets. So if anybody has got any tipps for stretching or expanding, just let me know ... I would love to play these rhytms.
How do I improve dexterity? I can’t imagine moving my fingers like that.

Рок-н-ролл жив !
Да!
Is is easier strum fast on the travel guitar you use because it’s more compact.
It doesn't make any difference. The distance between the top and bottom strings at the place you strum is much the same.
Merci c'est du rock
Merci beaucoup Jean Philippe!
I've never mastered those shuffles - pinky too short - but size isn't everything😀
The ladies might beg to differ. 😀
How do I order your book, Rob
You can buy the songbook from Amazon and from Lulu.com. Search for ‘Jez Quayle rock and roll’.
A rockear cheee!!
⚡💙🥀🦋✌
haha! 4 years later and my little finger cannot get to the 9th fret1
Hehehe. Keep at it! 😃👍
when i play it sounds too low - your guitar must be tuned differently
I'm not sure why it's sounding that way to you - I use standard guitar tuning: E A D G B E
Si me agrada mucho pero el problema es que no entiendo el idioma
¡Muchas gracias! Desafortunadamente no hablo español. Usé el traductor de Google para esto
Jesus Christ died for you so live for him
Why do you keep sending this message to me? What has this got to do with my video? Do you think that rock and roll is unchristian?
I can play I saw her standing there?
Are you asking if I can play that song? Yes, I can. It's a great song, but on this channel I specialise in playing 1950s rock 'n' roll.
chuck always play down stroke..ain't ?
True 👍
