I have an MPC live 2 and have been seeing the midi twister recently and it looks like it would be a perfect addition for those of us that don’t have 16 Q-links. I’d love to see a review by you your content is always great Tubedigger!
Thanks. would be nice if they make a shortcut to assign. project tab - like a 'learn' button or so - tab the parameter on the screen and turn the q-link to assign. anyone found that out yet?
OMG THANK YOU 🙏 Now I can automate multiple FX parameters over multiple programs from one page!!! How have the not hired you to redo the half assed beats academy videos?? I do have a couple questions though... Can I assign parameters to knobs on my midi controller? And is there a way to lock my controller into a program? ie. so I can play tube synth on the keys and play drums from a different program at the same time???
Hi. I love your videos. They are super helpful. I am not yet an MPC User but thinking about buying a MPC X. I have a question regarding the Q Links. Is it possible to map more than 16 parameters for a VST effect plugin on the Q Links and save it somehow, so that this napping is used per default each time I use this VST insert effect? What I would love to do is to "adept" my Maschine workflow, where I can have assign arbitrary many parameters to the 8 knobs and just switch pages/banks to access them. E.g. if I have an VST EQ with 6 bands, each with 4 important parameters (frequency, gain, Q, type) I would need at least 24 controls/knobs to lay out all of them. On Maschine I can use 3 pages of controls and use each 4 knobs to control one EQ band fully. I can store this as the default settings and every time I load this EQ this configuration will be used. This way I use a lot of my plugins and my muscle memory loves it :) Can I achieve something like that on the MPC X or is it limited to 16 parameters?
There's got to be a way to custom-map sample start and end, for whatever the currently selected/active pad... without having to switch to Q-Link Bank 2. I want to be able to edit the sample start and end while in the same Q-Link bank (like the way Maschine works). is there a way? Thanks as always for your amazing tutorials, TD!
Can I connect an external MIDI controller and map the Q-Link functions to its knobs? I'm fantasizing about a BCR2000 with 32 knobs in a single preset, ya'know....
Not as far as I know - only if you're using a MIDI program, then any CCs being sent out of the Live/X to an external synth can be reflected on the BCR to then in turn control that synth. But not the internal parameters of the MPC itself.
Thank you! Is there a way to lock or turn off the Q-links knobs? Ive bumped the BPM knob so many times by accident and it throws off my workflow. They are very sensitive little knobs.
Will you do an update about Q-link? Now that we have an automation grid, functionality is greatly improved, but i'm still frustrated how difficult it is trying to use knobs to record fx automations. I HATE static, lifeless, unmoving fx.
Thanks for this. I'm interested in an MPC or Force for Live step sequencing and sample tweaking performances and was trying to work out how I might do it and if I could get enough hands on control. I think Program mode could give me the depth of control tweaking I want with 16 parameters for each pad. How can you quickly and easily swap between sets of controls for each pad without audibly triggering the pad you want to control? I guess I could use project mode in conjunction with this to give me quick access to the volumes and sends for 8 of the pads. Is it quick and easy to switch between project mode control and pad mode control without triggering a sound though?
Thanks! Learning so much! Can you please make a video for routing and mixing with sends returns etc... and efx's, for standalone I just can't get it to work like I need it to!
I can't grasp how you use the sends and returns (routing) (like if I have more than one sample that I want to have the same effect). I know how to add effects on pads, programs, etc... But when I add effects in program edit and add the pads I want it to effect it does nothing. I going to go through all your videos to see if I missed something! Thanks again! P.S. I am in my forty's as well, lol.
My goal is to be able to get a song done in stand alone mode to sound so good that all I need to do is export a wave file. My songs sound good but they can sound better.
Hi, thanks for a reply. Yes, I would be happy to have them assigned for the whole program. I have keygroups made of of 1 sample as well as 88 piano samples :) But, yes, I would like just to be able to set individual q-links for the whole programs. When I try to do it, I just get these options: volume, pan, mute, solo, send 1,2,3,4. There is no filter cutoff etc. Do you have a clue what am I doing wrong? I have the latest OS btw. Thanks in advance :)
It's because there could potentially be hundreds of parameters being automated - the only way to do it is to automate the parameter directly within the keygroup program itself if that makes sense? Rather than assigning a dedicated qlink. I may be wrong, it might just be a bug but that is the workaround.
Yes, all set ups are saved with whatever project you're currently working with. However, Pad Scene is the only one that the manual states will be saved/reloaded regardless of the project you're working in with.
Man the mpc really needs crossfading between slices. I spend a lot of time making sure the start and end of the slices are free from clicks and pops, i could really use crossfading
can anyone help me, is there a way to turn off the qlink onscreen display as Im trying to cut a waveform ( new user and owner here ) i want the qlink screen window to disappear once i touch the dial not stay on the whole time covering the waveform, seems kinda abad design to stay on screen after you know the control the q link dial is affecting.
I’ve been trying to assign the qlinks to specific cc#’s (0-11) but in the qlink program edit drop down I only see cc#3&9. Is there a way to assign the qlinks to the numbers missing in the drop down? Unfortunately the hardware I’m trying to control only can receive control commands from these specific numbers.
great tutorial dude !!! thanks again ... if i understood correctly, you can set different parameters on a single q-link ... in live situation, you'll must have to be on the q-link page ?
It depends on what mode you're in as to how they behave but generally it's one parameter per qlink which can be edited/changed at any time. But you can't change multiple parameters simultaneously with one qlink if that's what you mean.
thank you boss . I don't know Where would I be Without all your Videos. Will the Q-links still work if i'm in the track mute page and will i still have my filter cut off on track one for example ? cheers
Thank you! Great video :-) Do you happen to know if it is possible to map different parameters to one Q-link? So for example turning one Q-link physical button and thereby changing the amp decay of some of the pads and perhaps adding some reverb to some? Thinking of moving over from the Elektron Rytm to the MPC Live, but I am figuring out how to keep the Performance options from the Rytm. Thanks!
No, it doesn’t have a ‘macro’ facility for this purpose. The closest would be Pad Scene mode where all qlinks can control 16 parameters of your choice for the currently selected pad. It’s the closest you’ll get as far as having easy access for control over more than one parameter - particularly useful if you’re an octopus 🐙 🙂. I think an external midi controller could potentially achieve this though. Set up a knob to send multiple CCs - it’s something I’m looking into myself right now. Depends heavily on the midi controller though, not all will have the ability to send multiple CCs.
@@TUBEDIGGA Thank you for your quick and thorough reply! :-) I'll be connecting the MPC Live to Ableton so I might be able to use a midi controller to control it yes.. good idea! Thank you :)
The raw sounds were recordings of various hardware synths I've owned, loopers, Ableton, can't remember which - but it shows you that the Live is more than capable of doing all types of music - not just what they're most known for. You get out what you put in etc :)
I think the way you worded your first question confused me. You don't assign LFOs to Qlinks, it's the other way round. You assign a qlink to an LFO to control it's parameters, but the LFO itself can only control the few parameters available in the program editor - filter, pitch, pan or amplitude. I have asked Akai Pro to expand the amount of parameters the LFOS can affect, but I have no idea if this will be updated or not.
@@TUBEDIGGA I guess I haven't figured that out yet. I've found that the LFOs are pre-assigned. haven't figured out how to alter what they affect. sorry if I'm being confusing....im just trying to figure it out. id like to add a reverb to and specific pad....and id like to modulate the depth of the reverb. can't for the life of me figure out how. thanks

Great one. I wish there was just a 16 knobs Qlink product that I can put in a bag.

Absolutely brilliant explanation! ...which makes me wanting the X even a little bit more (more direct access/knobs) :D
Thanks. would be nice if they make a shortcut to assign. project tab - like a 'learn' button or so - tab the parameter on the screen and turn the q-link to assign. anyone found that out yet?
Hold the Q-link button and press learn
Then touch a knob, adjust param with big knob, then with Q-knob, turn off learn to lock setting when finished. Save progress.
Phenomenal explanation and demonstration. Big ups man!
Would also love to know how the drone was sourced / created !!!
Nice drone outro indeed! Thanks again...
Thanks DIGGA all this knowledge applies to the the Touch too..

Yes, you can map the shape and rate parameters and the amount applied to the destination (filter, pitch, pan or amplitude).
