  • How Grim is a Haven Saver Caravan? Haven Saver Caravans are the cheapest holiday homes that are available on Haven Holiday Parks. Often available for only £49 for a 4 night midweek break, how bad are these budget caravans? I booked a 7 night Haven hideaway break at Riviere Sands Holiday Park in Cornwall to find out.

    We are regulars to saver caravans and never had any issues, always spotless. They're a base for getting out and about. Couldn't afford a week's hotel prices in Edinburgh, so we stayed at Haven Port Seton for £69 off peak and travelled in by bus from the park entrance every day.

      If I go to Edinburgh I stay at the Hostelling Scotland's youth hostel a 5-10 minute walk from the city centre. Depending on the time of year, you can usually get quite a good deal. Private, no frills rooms are also reasonably priced. However, it's best to avoid Edinburgh in August!

    All you do in a caravan is wash and sleep. The rest of the time you should be out enjoying a holiday. This is a lot better than a tent or an old motor home.

    We book a Haven Saver twice a year in either Kent, West Sussex or Suffolk. We go in mid May and then mid September and we only pay £45 per week for us both, this value cannot be beaten as it is the same unit as the one shown in this video. Although this Saver one definitely is something different and actually pretty nice, just two foot narrower in width! Occasionally, some features found on Silver grades and higher CAN make their way into Saver and Bronze (such as the 40" TV in lounge, bedroom TV, dishwasher, hairdryer, en suite, etc.) if you are lucky! :)

Your comment about the sticker on the door, isn't 'crime scene' it's to signify that the caravan has been cleaned and ready for occupancy. Our daughter will often help (even though she has a managerial role), along with other office/managerial staff, going into caravans to clean and prep them for incoming guests when there's a shortage of cleaning staff.

    Stayed at several Haven sites around the UK. As someone has already said, It is just a place to eat and sleep unless you have kids and use the site facilities. Unfortunately a lot does depend on the site you choose. Some have caravans packed together and you can hear everything going on in your neighbours van. Other sites the parking is an issue especially when some holidaymakers turn up with two or more cars. At other sites l have used, there is a lack of staff. Generally the vans are clean, but l have experienced issues and now always take some floor wipes for the kitchen and bathroom areas. The remote tv controls are usual broken. Haven also money grab as you can't select the location of your van until you have paid for the holiday. They then send you an email saying choose your location but you will have to pay more. All these issues l have reported back to Haven over the last few years to no avail. So choose carefully which site you stay at and read reviews.

    We had a caravan at Park Dean holiday park Carmarthen Bay site
    in June.
    When we got to our designated caravan there was a really awful smell outside the van.
    Guess what ……. It was only right next to a sewage works.
    The stench had permeated all through the Caravan, we went to reception to complain and were told
    “ well nobody else has complained!!!! and there were no alternative vans available.
    Half hour later they had found one, we went to look at it and quickly realised it was a sh..t pit.
    Awful to say the least which was a shame because I must admit most of the park is quite good.

  • @retrogeezer
    @retrogeezer 3 месяца назад

    Probably been said already but that is not a saver caravan. You may have booked and paid for a saver van but you have been given an upgrade to a much better spec one, probably 2 up like a silver or whatever they are called these days. Savers have no central heating and certainly no dishwasher, en-suite or tv in the bedroom.

    • @BigTedsTravel
      @BigTedsTravel  3 месяца назад

      @retrogeezer It was definitely a saver caravan and not an upgrade (you can tell from the seal on the door). Most saver caravans do have central heating, we have only had one that didn't. I think this one was classed as a saver because it was quite small (bronze and silver are guaranteed to be at least 12ft wide). The dishwasher was a bonus, we have stayed in silver vans which didn't have one.
