Shnootz - Reaction Video (ABBA - Keep an Eye on Dan)

- What's happening, folks! I'm back with another ABBA reaction, and as friends of the channel told me, the second half of this record does seem to be heavier and more emotionally pained, as this time we listen to "Keep an Eye on Dan." As it turns out, I didn't fully understand all the details correctly (or at least, was unsure as to the specifics afterward), but either way, the synth-sonics of this one are absolutely delicious! The bass bubbles and gurgles, the soaring melodies---it all sounds ace. And again, their blending of heavy themes with groovy sonics remains as fresh in 2021 as it did in their original run. So shout-out to ABBA for another brilliant song. Cheers!

🙂My favorite song by far, from "Voyage".
The notes from "SOS" on the piano at the end is a fun twist to this song.
A divorced couple but there’s still love, she sings “she still loves him, she noticed he lost some weight “ and in the chorus he says “ have I lost her forever”, still they share custody and ends deliberately with notes of their song SOS
This is one of the best Abba songs ever IIMHO.
Abbs were great at telling minnie drama's. I love the foreboding music, the overly dramatic storyline, the fantastic harmonies. This song has it all.
A great song. The isolated vocals from Benny and Bjorn are amazing. There is a breakdown of this on another channel Bobbys Brother, he has some brilliant analysis re ABBA.
Such a great song. Agnetha's sorrowful vocals in the lead always tugs at the heartstrings. They way she can convey emotion in her voice and when they sing in unison, they sound so fantastic together, molding into one voice.
My biggest complaint with B & B is they never released this as a single. This along with No Doubt About It would have been great releases.

Different vocal
This has been a very special week for all ABBA fans.
And especially for Agnetha's fans
Since we had three gifts:
1) A 15 minute interview on BBC Radio
(remember that her last interview was two years ago and in Swedish)
2) The premiere of her new single “Where do w ego from here” (a beauty of a song)
with the announcement of the remix of her album "A" from 2013
3) A letter from Her on social networks, along with new photos of She
As I do an update on ABBA's playlist stats before the weekend
And with the possibility of your next reactions to the Voyage album
1 with +4000 views
4 with +3000 views
16 with +2500 views
29 with +2000 views
54 with +1500 views
82 with +1000 views
There is a remarkable, surprising fact that marks the benefit of the song that opens the playlist
"Ring Ring", the song with the most views,
already has 1000 more views than the second "The winner takes it all"
And the other very important fact is that
the two main songs from the Voyage album are #5 and #6
and close to exceeding 3000 views.
16 with more than 2500 views and their location in the Top25 of your entire channel,
(not only in the ABBA playlist, and not only in the musical reactions)
with some changes in the order, are:
#4 RingRing
#8 The winner takes it all
#9 Lay all your love on me
#11 As good as new
#12 I still have faith in you
#13 Don't shut me down
#14 S.O.S.
#15 The day before you came
#17 Knowing me knowing you
#18 The Visitors (crackin'up)
#19 Chiquitita
#19 Eagle
#20 Gimme gimme gimme (a man after midnight)
#22 Andante Andante
#24 Angel Eyes
#25 Thank you for the music
But here I will make another caveat, a novelty
The next three songs that follow, two are from “A-ha”
and a new one from ‘Duran Duran,’ which you did this week.
They are all about to exceed 2500 views,
but I see the destiny of "Duran Duran" to go very high on your channel
(Most likely in future statistics the impact
of this last song by the Duran Duran group will be seen)
As for albums, it remains the same,
the Top4 in order for the most accumulated views (and also for average views) is:
Super Trouper
Voulez Vous
The Album
The Visitors
The fifth place by accumulated is for Arrival,
but by averages it is for Voyage (with only 7 songs)
Super Trouper is the only one that has 2 songs with +3000 views;
Voulez Vous and Super Trouper have 3 songs with +2500 views
The Album and Voulez Vous have 5 songs with +2000 views;
and Waterloo the only one that does not have songs with +1500
That's all for now
I hope that you could do a double reaction again
to the Frida's fans
I wish you a great weekend
My best regards from
Buenos Aires, Argentina
South America
Another one of my favourites from the album. Great vocals from Agnetha and the instrumental dramatic effects in the background all add to the darkness of this track.
After Don´t shut me down and I still have faith in you the best song on the record ( at least for me) And I love the hommage to the song "SOS" at the end.
Oh yes,, I wonder whether our dear Matt realized that ;-)
This is my favorite from Voyage album.
It's a new 'Agnetha/Benny conection' like in SOS, Thank you for the music or The Winner Takes It All... that's how good it is👌
A wonderful Björn's lyric and the strength of Frida❤ on backing vocals complete this new ABBA masterpiece.
Take care, Matt & Lucca
See you soon
❤🇨🇱👍
First comment here!
and what a beautiful surprise
double day of ABBA for this Saturday
worth waiting so long!
and especially for the song that I consider to be the 'hidden pearl' of this album
ABBA Voyage is a fantastic album
that was a worldwide hit at the end of 2021,
#1 in almost 20 countries.
"Keep an eye on Dan"
it's a really amazing song
the intro is suspenseful, very dramatic
Agnetha's voice is so emotional and broken
(as Frida says about her, Agnetha is a fantastic storyteller)
The duo of them is really beautiful and powerful
And in the second chorus
Björn and Benny are heard as background voices
playing the part of the father
Musically, the synthesizer riff is as good, or more,
as that of "Gimme gimme gimme"
Finally, the lyrics are some brilliance from Björn,
a story of the weekend custody an estranged couple's son.
If you pay attention,
the last few notes are like the intro and the end of "S.O.S."
a mischief and delicacy at the same time by Benny
that allows to relate this song with that legendary success of ABBA
PS: this is the other ABBA song
in which there are images of Agnetha and Frida on the recording
and a fan put together a video with them
and with other images from the release of the Voyage album
and the new Voyage Concerts
this track is epic!!!
Nobody died, thank heavens! The lyric is about split custody of a child (Dan)
Indeed, other friends of the channel helped me understand what was really happening here once I posted the reaction. But even though the stakes are not what I thought, I like the tension and introspection of the narrator's experience.
I love the instrumentation of this song.
Blending heavy themes with groovy sonics. I think you hit the nail on the head of Abba's succes there. I read some time ago by a vocal expert that the Abba girls are able to project emotion without having to turn to 'emotional trickery' in their voices. So they can blurt stuff out in a strong loud voice which still hits an emotional spot. This song is proof of that, I think. The parts where they sing "But I said goodbye
And I did not cry Though my heart ached" are sung in a powerful straight way, and yet you feel the despair. Great stuff.
Lovely review, thank you. I remember listening to this track the day the Voyage album was released and when I heard those few notes from SOS at the end, OMG!!! 😍🎶🎵🎹🇸🇪
I know that this shouldn't be
A traumatic event, but it is
And I feel so bad
My little boy looks so happy
He throws me his "go mummy" kiss
And he loves his dad
And I loved him too
Maybe I still do
But it's over
Keep an eye on Dan
Promise me you can
He gets out of hand if you let him
So keep an eye on Dan (keep an eye on Dan)
And don't forget (and don't forget)
I'll be back on Sunday to get him
So keep an eye on Dan
Certain that I'm out of sight
I pull over and turn off the car
And I bang the wheel
I can't believe that I've actually
Held it together this far
Seeing how I feel
But I said goodbye
And I did not cry
Though my heart ached
Keep an eye on Dan
Promise me you can
He gets out of hand if you let him
So keep an eye on Dan (keep an eye on Dan)
And don't forget (and don't forget)
I'll be back at seven on Sunday to get him
I, I think he must have lost some weight
Funny how it takes me back to our first date
So keep an eye on Dan
Keep an eye on Dan
You're a loving man
Make an effort not to upset him
Just keep an eye on Dan (keep an eye on Dan)
And don't forget (and don't forget to come here on Sunday to get him)
I'll be back on Sunday to get him
So keep an eye on Dan
A great song about a woman delivering her son to his father - her ex! Being worried and still perhaps with feelings for her ex man? Great synthesizer works here from Benny!
Ohhhh, I see. Thank you for clarifying. As you can see after the song, I wasn't sure why the intense emotion if the child hadn't passed away, but now it makes more sense. Cheers.
@@mattsnider2667 It is sometimes hard to hear the lyrics - so quite understandable! In the end they sing:
"I think he must have lost some weight. It takes me back to our first date!" A really clever and relateable sentence! 😉
For years I loved ABBA for the overall effect. Then I looked at the lyrics and loved them even more. Reminds me of when I listened to Buddy Holly's "Fools Paradise" and my mum asked how he could be lost in a blue sparrow's eyes!
The last few piano chords are from the song SOS
This is the link to the video that a fan made,
taking the images of Agnetha and Frida singing this song, in the first part
(hope youtube lets it)
ruclips.net/video/Fo0bfmzShbg/видео.htmlsi=T-gLvB52kFlFaSMb
The images were taken from the worldwide broadcast by livestream almost 2 years ago
and the rest is combined with the scenes from the official video of
Gimme gimme gimme (a man after midnight)
It seems that the Japanese fan thought the same as me when he made the video,
to relate the synth riff of "Kep an eye on Dan"
with that of "Gimme gimme gimme"
and at the end, the bonus of the outro of S.O.S.
a nod to the fans
I love "Keep an Eye on Dan." This is my favorite "new" song (as I had already heard "Don't Shut Me Down" which was released as a single before the entire album was released).
Dan is the narrator's son with her ex-husband. She's dropping him off for the week (or weekend) because they are divorced, and she is regretting that they are no longer married. I'm not sure which line you heard that made you thought Dan died, but I think you must have heard that wrong. LOL 😁
Dan Died??? Absolutely not leaving him off with his dad again then, I warned his dad that he gets out of hand if you let him! Lol
ABBA can pack so much into 1 song and make it work. Always a feast for the ears. You can't help but actually listen to the various vocals & instrumentation. There's always something going on. (I know there's something going on😉)
Also that very last 5secs of piano keys sounded like the beginning to their SOS song. The Voyage album is just a great musical journey & blending of their history.
LOVE IT ALL❤
Incredible, another deep song. 9.5/10
While it was confirmed that Agnetha releases a new song this Thursday
, and a revamp of their 2013 album “A”
I do an update of the ABBA playlist statistics after the weekend
1 with +4000 views
4 with +3000 views
14 with +2500 views
28 with +2000 views
54 with +1500 views
82 with +1000 views
the songs of "Voyage" came in with a lot of force
"I still have faith in you" is #5
and "Don't shut me down" is #7
(that is was I wait to post these)
the 14 with more than 2500 votes and their location in the Top25 of your entire channel,
(not only in the ABBA playlist, and not only in the musical reactions) are:
#4 RingRing
#8 The winner takes it all
#9 Lay all your love on me
#11 As good as new
#12 I still have faith in you
#13 S.O.S.
#15 Don't shut me down
#16 The day before you came
#17 Knowing me knowing you
#18 Little
#19 Eagle
#20 The Visitors (crackin'up)
#21 Gimme gimme gimme (a man after midnight)
#24 Andante Andante
Fun fact: 10 of these 14 songs are on the setlist of the new Voyage Concerts
There are 3 songs away from finishing the ABBA catalog
(maybe you have to add other bonus tracks, which will not essentially change the statistics)
If I had to make a summary list with the 3 songs with the most views, by album and by singles, it would be
1) Ring Ring ; Disillusion; Another town another train
2) Dance (while the music still goes on) ; My mama said; Watch out
3) S.O.S. ; I've been waiting for you; Mamma mia
4) Knowing me knowing you; When I kissed the teacher; My love my life
5) Eagle ; Thank you for the music; The name of the game
6) As good as new ; Chiquitita ; angeleyes
7) The winner takes it all; Lay all your love on me; Andante andante
8) The visitors (crackin'up) ; Slipping through my fingers; When all is said and done
9) I still have faith in you; Don't shut me down; When you danced with me
Singles: The day before you came; Gimme gimme gimme (a man after midnight) ; Summer night city
As for albums, the Top4 in order for the most accumulated views (and also for average views) is:
Super Trouper
Voulez vous
The Album
The Visitors
The fifth place by accumulated is for Arrival, but by averages it is for Voyage (with only 7 songs,
we will have to wait and see how the last two songs evolve in the week and how they influence the final lists)
Super Trouper is the only one that has 2 songs with +3000 views; and 3 songs with +2500 views
instead, The album is the only one that has 5 songs with +2000 views;
and Waterloo the only one that does not have songs with +1500
I wonder whether you realized the "SOS" hommage at the very end or not, Matt 🙂
Ha, didn't catch it in the moment, unfortunately. But will re-listen with that in mind. Cheers, appreciate the tip. :)
@@mattsnider2667 Let me know, please.
One of the best tracks along with No Need to Argue
I'm a bit late commenting this so you might not see it, but my take on it is that she will leave her son a week with her father. Recently divorced, the pain is still raw and she hasn't gotten used to the fact that from now on she will have her son Dan with her only half the time, and the other half he will be with his father (you have to be an extremely unfit mother or father not to get shared custody with the other parent here in Sweden). Usually parents seem to choose to split it so that it's every second week with mom and every second week with dad. I so love this song. But my absolute favourite on this album is Ode to Freedom - it gives me goodebumps. Thanks for your reaction, I just suscribed to your channel.
Hey there! I try to read all comments, including fresh ones on older videos. And indeed, a number of folks helped me understand what was happening here. But I appreciate the clarification and perspective. And still some more new ABBA reactions coming (to a few remaining non-album tracks). Cheers!
What storytelling this is...genius...
You are about to get to the last three song of Voyage! And they are all three really great songs - the two next with Frida on lead vocals - but very different from each other. And the last one being an Anthem from ABBA - a real masterpiece and a very suitable ending of the album! Can´t wait to hear your reactions to them!
And now I am a bit curious: You mention that you have the solo albums of Frida and Agnetha - and I wondered if you will react to them in cronical order? And is it only the solo works from after ABBA, that is from 1982 and forward? Because they also made solo albums before and alongside ABBA - in swedish! Exiting to follow your reactions to their solo work!
Second best track on the album after Don't Shut Me Down (in my opinion).
I've always understood it that she still desperately loves her ex and is trying to maintain a connection by overly fussing over the only thing they still have in common, Dan.
Deep subject but the music is bangin
Sometimes the silliest or cute songs can inspire people to include the tune into a bigger, serious song. Listen very close and you can hear / Dashing through snow, in a one horse open sleigh. Yes, benny kind of ripped off jingle bells for this song. Lol. This song seems a take on Bjorn and Agnetha's divorce. Dan is the name of a friend of Bjorn's and he used it for this song.
Hardly.
Thats the impression I got. Bjorn drawing on his life experience.
Nope. Jingle Bells is a major scale. This is a minor scale. Both are scales, indeed, so if you love Christmas maybe your ears automatically hear Jingle Bells? 🎄
Keep an eye on Sam (and Max and Matt).
This is a alternate vocal for Keep An Eye On Dan , hear how the both voices are belting here

Benny's synthesizer rules. The lyrics are a bit weak for me though. The piano in the end plays SOS from 1975
/Dan🎉
Ode too SOS . ? X ♥
This is not a favorite for me. Dont like the melody and the synth solo. The verse is fine though
This is too literal for me, too much of a description of events, I’ve always found it harder to enjoy songs that are like this, they lose replayability.
This one is more 'catchy' than others although Benny manages to put in an annoying siren like synth tune at the end of the chorus section to my ears, but that's a personal thing with me and synths.
I do feel Bjorn's lyric writing here very much lacks the poetic tautness of his earlier Abba works.
It can sometimes sound rather overly simplistic and a bit banal. This one I find particularly poor in the lyric department.
A case of out of practice, I guess.
Its about a seperated mom dropping off her son to his dad for the weekend visitation. She still has feeling for her ex...
