JO LLOYD is a dance artist based in Naarm, working with choreography as a social encounter, revealing behaviour over various durations and contexts. Her practice seeks to find a language that refuses the limits of history, form and aesthetic. She choreographs the peculiarities and complexities of the mind, which manifests in unconventional ways through the body. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Jo has presented and performed her work in galleries and theatres nationally and internationally, including commissions for Chunky Move, New Zealand Dance Company, Dancenorth, Tasdance and the Keir Choreographic Award.
Recent works include; Out of Theatre for Melbourne Now at NGV, FM Air commissioned for The National 4 at Carriageworks, Sydney, Bang Stop, RISING 2022, Handsome at The Substation, Death Role for Bundanon Art Museum and Archive the archive for the NGV. Other major works include OVERTURE, Melbourne Festival 2019 and Arts House 2018, winner of three Green Room Awards and nominated for a Helpmann Award, CUTOUT at ACCA, Melbourne Festival 2018 and DOUBLE DOUBLE created and performed with Deanne Butterworth, Tina Havelock Stevens and Evelyn Morris (Dancehouse 2022, Mona Foma 2020, Liveworks 2019, Ian Potter Museum 2019), which received three 2023 Green Room Award nominations.
Jo teaches regularly in Melbourne and currently works out of her studio at the Abbotsford Convent.
