It's easy to get riled up about a situation. The stress increases, heartrate increases, frustration multiplies.
Better take a 15 minute breather, take off your jacket, sit down, walk around, take deep breaths.
Take it easy man! No rush...

      REST and ASSESS
You are an EXCELLENT rider man.
If I drop my 890, I honestly walk away unless something weird is going on - gas pouring out on a hot engine, etc. No way am I getting amped up and wasting a bunch of energy and risking injury moving 500lbs - REST and ASSESS. I am old, but still quite strong and unfortnately my strength far outshines my sturdiness. And injuries are REALLY bad now and take forever to heal. The number of times I have fallen and "thought" I broke my hip are too many. LOL.....@@RichyVida

That was edge-of-my-seat action! Impressive how you got the Big Lad out of that spot!! 👏 I like how you pointed out the happy faces and welcoming people you've met along the way. What a fantastic series this has been...thanks for taking us along. Now, on to the next episode.

'Course this is why you should not ride alone. Yeah, right. Back in the '80s I got into trail riding and European touring by buying a BMW R80 GS. It's a trail bike and a long distance tourer? So I bounced it off the moors and trails of Derbyshire (Belper lad, me) and bombed off down to the Bol D'or. There is no better feeling than stuck on a trail..on your own..up on the moors..in February and then getting unstuck by your own effort and getting home. Good on you Richy. Inspiring stuff.

This series has got me following you. 66 tomorrow and me and SWMBO are setting off for Morocco either the first week in May or September, hopefully the former as you never know what's round the corner at our age. With the boss on the back though I will be avoiding off road where possible and my old knees can't take it so well now anyway. Thanks for excellent videos, honesty and the stills.

Morning Richy, anither great video and well done.
    Some thoughts for your consideration.
    Stuck Bike
A large flat stone or two just in front of the rear wheel might have provided it a step to change the approach angle and free up the bash plate and allow the bike to climb.
    Bash Plate and Accessory Bars
Honda describe the engine bars as accessory mounting bars rather than engine protector bars. This may be because of the relatively lightweight material and the fixings. I have Touratech lower and upper bars and have had to rely on them several times. Changing the "accessory bars" for something that provides protection I'd highly recommend.
Oh and don't ask me how I know that!!!!
    Bash Plate
The OEM Bash plate is very thin material and IMHO won't give the protection rocks like that need. Loads to choose from. I've been pleased with the Touratech Adventurer guard and its pretty knocked about now in my 2018 AT.
    Tyre Inflation
I used "Rocky Creek" for several years but have recently changed to a "MotoFlator" designed by a British Engineer and he and his wife turn up at many of the shows to sell them. Small, light and enables you to drop pressures for a climb like that and then reset them. I used mine several times last year for mine and other bikes. Highly recommended for being on tour.
    StopNGo Plugs
The very best kit I have come across for tubeless tyres (think your new AT is running tubeless?) Again I've used the plugs several times now for a variety of uses including getting a Swiss Touring Couple on a GS going again when stranded here in Wales. Highly recommended.
    Water
I'd recommend a hydra pack for riding in temperatures like that. Either in a small backpack (Kriega do a beauty) or the bladder in the tank bag or you can fill the bladder with iced water when available and tuck it inside your mesh jacket for cooling.
Dehydration is a real problem for all but particularly motorcyclists, one of our group had an accident and an off on an Alpine Hairpin last summer in 38 degrees through dehydration. Allows little and often easily.
Oh and it doesn't fall off the back of the bike. 😂😂😂
    Boots
Finally, mentioned this before in your vids as I now have a permanent disability after an accident off tarmac when wearing inadequate foot protection, I know its hot but your boots, whilst armoured are not going to provide you protection in a variety of accidents, especially whilst alone.
Love your videos, love your entertaining style. I'm doing Picos this summer using some of your recommendations and this trip is urging me on as well.
    Thank you.
Ride safe and continue to have fun whilst providing such rich life enhancing entertainment.
If you're ever passing Shropshire near Oswestry, kettle always on and there's a bed if you need it.
    Cheers
    Stuart

This just strengthens my argument that these bloody bikes are stupid. Especially when travelling alone.
When you have a very experienced rider, getting stuck in dry, reasonably grippy conditions? On a "fully specced adventure bike"? You have to ask yourself, have I chosen the right tool for the job.

    • @stuartmetcalfe547
      @stuartmetcalfe547 3 месяца назад +1

Understanding we are all free in the country to have our own opinion and views and I adore living here for that.
To post the alternative, I've done 25,000 miles on my 2017 AT and have done many of them off tarmac. I've ridden lanes successfully led by an experienced chap on a Honda XL125.
      I have the DCT.
Last year I rode 1000 miles in one go from Austria home.
Each to their own. I'm fortunate to have a choice of bikes to ride.
To go touring now I would have an easy choice.
The AT is my go to bike, I adore it and, unlike my sports bikes, I don't have to visit the Osteopath afterwards.
I think it's one of the single greatest motorcycle developments in the last 100 years.
Tackling stuff like that alone with that kit is a personal choice, I wouldn't do it but I respect Richy's freedom to.
      Happy Monday everybody.
      Cheers
      Stuart

@@stuartmetcalfe547 the fact that you said you were being led by an XL125? Kinda reinforces my point. These are ego bikes, just like 1000cc sports bikes, 2000cc cruisers and hyper sports tourers before them.
I'm not immune to this rush for the biggest, best, fastest, blah blah blah. I've had an R1, Blackbird and several GSes among many other bikes. But I'm over it. I think many people would have a lot more fun if they were honest with themselves.

    • @mikefarnden2893
      @mikefarnden2893 3 месяца назад +1

Tne bikes aren't stupid, but sometimes the use they are put to is shall we say " sub optimal". I've owned somewhere between 55 and 60 bikes and the AT sits at number 1. I've done single track on it, not because i thought it was the right bike for the job, but because it's the bike I had. It's a sublimely comfortable road bike. I won't off road it anymore, my body is failing me, but the bikes I use to replace it seriously under perform in comparison when you're blasting up an alpine pass. Everything's a compromise .

    • @RichyVida
      @RichyVida  3 месяца назад +1

Great comment, but yeah, I also adore this bike. Yes, I felt the weight on this trail, but to (safely) succeed with this over a lightweight off-roader is much more of an accomplishment. As I said; if I could’ve magically transformed it into a CRF300 I would’ve - does second. Then I’d want the AT back. Best bike, by far, for crunching some serious miles and serious terrain. 💪 👍

@@RichyVida I don't mean to sound like I'm having a dig at you Richy. I was just thinking that when such an experienced rider looks like he's clearly struggling? (And I know you need a bit of drama for the clicks, But even on the latest video there is a lot of slow paddling, ooffing and grunting, not much chat to the camera and a sense that it was not "fun"). I think it sucks a load of riders into buying bikes that do not suit their needs.
Like I said, I've had loads of bikes, among which were "Adventure style" 1, 1100gs, 2, 1150 GSes, 1, 1200 GS, 650 Vstrom, Honda Dominator and Val Doonican, and a Himalayan. None of which seen the dirt, partly because of a lack of altitude, 5'6", and mostly a lack of talent.
I suppose it ultimately comes down to what works best for you at any given time, or trip. Just be aware of your limitations and realistic of the risks.
      Keep 'er between the hedges🏍️🤘

Great vlog Richy. I take it that bit of the route where keef got stuck won't be on a wildbad tour 😮 I liked the comment...you see some right sites in these villages. I thought a bit like on a night out in Leicester 😂 then you corrected yourself 😊 🤙

I was definitely a bit nervous for you Richy that the Africa Twin was properly stuck. You were blowing trying to free it up!!. Well done mate and not one swear word (on camera at least 😜😜)

No Keith (sorry Richy),, more like well done Richy😮 how you managed to keep it up without dropping it, is beyond me. I've dropped mine on slight slope, let alone up hill with smooth rocks and uneven ground beneath your feet, with a bike that is so heavy. Once again take my hat off to you sir. Enjoying the series very much so keep it coming ❤❤❤

I'm impressed that the DCT can take this sort of abuse! Yeah you're a bit of a fool for getting in that predicament, in my younger days I've done likewise. Great adventure!

I´m a new viewer because of Marrocos, but ill go back to watch the prior postings. Great content (I took a look). On another note, Marrocos is amazing and I've been there so many time, almost every year since 2015, in many different bikes and still eager to go every year!

Strained a muscle in my left leg on a byway here in the Uk .
I was remote and I couldn’t pick the bike up and that was on a CRF250l which is 175 pounds lighter than an Africa Twin , I managed it in the end and then had to get off the byway and then back home with strained tendons and a torn muscle .
See the adverts , you should be pulling wheelies up that track .😂
