- Malaysia's former Prime Minister Najib Razak will begin a 12-year-prison sentence after losing his appeal against his money laundering conviction.
The 69-year-old's charges relate to a corruption scandal involving state-owned wealth fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
He was convicted in 2020, when a court found him guilty on seven counts centred on a total of 42m ringgit ($9.4m; £8m), but he had been out on bail during the appeal.
Najib Razak has always to denied any wrongdoing.

The swiftness of the Federal Court decision is commendable and to be applauded. The CJ even ordered the issuance of a committal order that marched off Najib to prison immediately after the Federal Court decision was read by the CJ. The 5 - member Panel decided without fear or favour and justice is served.

Why doesn't the punishment scale with the value of the crime? I could rob significantly less and go to prison. For stealing billions of dollars he should get several life sentences or the death penalty. He will probably be left out by other corrupt politicians.
This is for SRC case, accepting bribe of RM42 million. Other cases are still ongoing.
In total he might spend 70 years or more in jail once his other trials are done.This one is for a crime worth millions. The others are in billions.
Hold your horses...more charges are incoming. It is a very complex case, with a network of hundreds of offshore shell companies, swiss bank account, cayman island bla bla bla...its safe to say he will spend the rest of his natural life in jail...
