I'm 50 yrs old and have been creating art work my whole life ....brotha ....I've never commented, put two cents in on anybody ever. I have to say , real recognize real ,and you are real my friend. Your insight and the way you deliver your information is unmatched by anyone that I have seen . Thank you for being you . inmate ink for life .
Man, I’ve just come across your channel recently and love the content. However, that was one of the best pieces of advise I’ve heard in a very long time. Doesn’t matter if it’s art or something else, it applies to such a broad range of life situations and you’ve totally hit the nail on the head! Very well said, much respect & look forward to viewing more of your channel. Love the art, keep up the good work! Cheers from Australia.
Well said! As one who become disabled and had to stop work at age 50, the only thing I had left in my "bag of tricks" was my artistic talent. Tackling both, at times is exhausting. Yet, I never give up on the dream which is slowly turning into a reality. If you start, one is further ahead, than someone who hasn't. Keep up the great videos!
Totally agree with your point of view. It's not about luck - you have a problem - find a solution. Best advice from a working Artist. Your paintings look amazing btw. Thanks.
Henry Ford said: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't - you're right.” Think that quote sums up this video perfectly. Believe in yourself, put in the hard work and you will make it.
I randomly watched your video about the 5 things to be successful in art or something. This was last week & I sincerely thank you from the center of my heart. This genuine advice is priceless & I strongly agree with you. The mindset of an artist in my life is like a tier 1 special operations operator. Work smart & never give up…. I honestly have my days, but I will never give up. Thank you & envision it….see it & remember we are not alone. 👽
Very good point!, we certainly do create our own luck and as you so rightly mentioned.... there are many sacrifices whilst striving for success. I gave up art for many years (long story) and only got back into it with vengeance about 8 years ago and have been consistently and obsessively focused on creating many hundreds of work in that time . Hardly any social life , every spare penny going into buying materials and working around the clock in my spare time as I’ve needed to hold down another full time job to survive with extortionate rent etc... I’ve gone without most of life’s luxuries like holidays new clothes etc because I passionately want to succeed and spend the rest of my life creating ... I’m so delighted I’ve found your channel ... your art and studio space inspires me to go that much further and take more chances. All the best 🙏🏼
(Clever the way you walk us backwards through your gallery during your speech)😊 Jealousy, envy and laziness are the motivation behind those who complain. They know it but instead of moving their asses they move their lips, ignoring that they are both connected!😂
Leave it to us artists to take a derelict space and bring beauty and love to it. And yes, SCREW luck-it has nothing to do with it. I did a lot of subliminal reprogramming 15 plus years ago using CDs to change my beliefs and thus my life to make a full time living as an artist. It takes commitment, consistency and a LOT of work on changing old beliefs. GREAT advice, thanks. PS swearing doesn't bother me at all, I swear like a sailor, LOL. I am told that it means one has overcome great pain in life. Much Love from New Mexico USA!
I definitely agree, I'm in that stage of pulling myself by my bootstraps. It can be invalidating to hear you're lucky in that sense when it really wasn't about luck. I'm glad you got to where you. It doesn't help that there are really questionable characters that try selling people the idea that all you basically gotta do is push a button and you'll be drowning in money. They make it sound so easy. Also what you see in a glimpse is often the result of someone grinding and working through failure after failure. Then said people may venture into other avenues that their previous skills makes it easier for them. So they do content like "how I became x in 3 months, how I sold $$$$$ worth of products in 6 months". Leaving out the part that their previous skills or following has a lot to do with it and someone who doesn't think about that may think it's that easy. Ending up so demotivated when they attempting trying to get similar results.
All very good points and you are absolutely right in all of them There's no such thing as a free lunch if you start this from scratch - just relentless hard graft, day after day. Nos secrets...
I knew there was a reason why I subcribed to you after having seen only one video... (I watched a few more afterwards...) I never got the impression you were lucky... but I did wonder just how much WORK it took for you to get where you are... I respect that... props to you! P.S. Thanks for the proverbial kick in the pants... There are alot of people (myself included) who need it.
Totally awesome rant, this is the best message that I've heard in a long time. I really needed this today. Thank you for just stopping and getting real... My phrase that I try to live by is " Shoot for the Stars, the worst that can happen is that you will land on the moon". This video just reminded me of that. Thank you for firing me up to tackle this day. Need more content like this, AWESOME!
So great to hear about that 'luck thing'. A lot of people like to say when you achieved something by your own powers: "It's just luck." They don't call it a achievement. But when bad things happened to you, they say: "It is you're own fault." May be sometimes it is someones fault. Or it is just luck. But in all the other cases it is just hard work or bad luck. ;)
Thank you..Thank you..I love this..there is a solution to every problem..this mantra has helped me over the years to get through some pretty crazy arty blocks..👌😊
Thank you for being original and a huge inspiration! Your sharing has ignited my true passion to just do it!.. to take a true and practical small steps that will ( by God’s Grace) propel me towards my childhood dream & bring to fruition my first true love - to be an artist! This post shall serve as a reminder in time to come of how it all started. Cheers and thank you ! 5 Mar 2022.
That's fantastic! I am delighted that we have helped a little on your journey - that really is a great thing to hear! thanks for sharing your thoughts... Ed
Great points all of which we need to hear. Oh, I never thought you were lucky and knew you had busted your ass to get where you are today and know that you will do it again and again every day. Hats off to you. I hope RUclips video on what you do with that block of resin.
I say the word luck a lot. I'm part Irish so I like the word! I guess it's how you define it. I define it as "Luck is when preparation meets opportunity". However, I never sit around and wait to get lucky.....just constantly working hard and preparing.....and then opportunity inevitably knocks - and when it does I'm ready! Just my perspective and I really enjoyed hearing yours.....since I'm sure there's a lot of artist's who hope to "get lucky" rather than work extremely hard like you do. Congrats on having such a great gallery - you deserve it! .....and it's a great space to record youtube videos :)
Fantastic video, I needed to watch this today. I do get myself down but self pity is not going to solve anything! Thank you for taking YOUR time to inspire and motivate
Loved your video. I'm an artist and its amazing how hard it is to just do it! But the last two years I pushed and i see the progress. Thanks for shating your story because it's very relatable and inspirational. Your work is beautiful and professional. Wish you even more success.
Wow Brilliant man..love your 'relentless determination' and your serious work ethic..and the fact you are independent from galleries..brilliant videos.. thank you!..looking forward to seeing more..Keep it Lit Buddy!!
Ed I truly like your honest approach and passion ! Your gallery is Awesome !!😀😎 Now let's get you some more sub's ! Wishing you well from the East Coast of Canada .
Great passion mate and great work. Reminds me of the chip I had on my shoulder for so many years as a sculptor. No pun intended. Sitting in my bedsit with no workshop tools transport etc. The world,s against me! Jealous of others. I decided that I was just making excuses to myself, then worked within the limits. Making wood reliefs. Then I got the car, a builders yard to sculpt in, money for materials etc. Pushed the limits. Sorry to rant on. Really relate to your videos. Wishing you both lots of success.
Swarez Art - I noticed you have a certain dislike for Galleries (I’m sure you have your reasons) but perhaps good people like you can show the world what a true Gallery is supposed to represent. Your videos add value to my perspective as what a Gallery needs to be (indirectly) perhaps it’s time to take the bull by the horns let it all out there - your definition of a great gallery - 1 episode to let it all out 😉
all your paint is unique i love a unique kind of painting. i continui feel inspired continio painting as my hobby.i hope and wish i will be succesful someday like you.
íts not about luck. Its about hard work. Successfull people who achieve anything had to work very hard to be in place they are now. Why so many people think its about luck? that is crazy.
So, I've just gone back to one of your other videos and updated my comment from "lucky...." to "congratulations... " because that seems more appropriate, though to be fair, when I said lucky, I really meant that you've done amazingly well and I really respect that. Cheers.
You sure have a lot of energy, in producing all the videos on RUclips and other media, and also making more paintings. I have a question: how much time do you spend in finding collectors or buyers for your art works. For me after making my art I than have to spend a lot of time marketing the work if I want make a sale. Do you have any opinions on marketing ones work at local art fairs. Thank you for your videos on You tube.
Thanks Douglas. It's not something I would do (art fairs) as I have tried very early on and for me I simply can't reach a wide enough audience. Fairs are relatively unqualified (meaning you take your chances on who decided to go) rather than targeting a social post or a specific page on your website. That's where I put the work in - casting the net as wide as I can!!! Hope that helps...
Amen to that! Really, that is why I don't read comments under art post, it is full of "you are so lucky...", "Icould never paint like that..." And other stuff, makes me angry to read these...of course you won't draw like that and won't have a studio like that cause you can only complain.
How did you choose your lighting? I've changed my living/dining area in my apartment into a gallery for my work (as opposed to waiting for some public gallery to give me a solo show). Unfortunately it doesn't get a lot of natural light especially since we are quickly moving into winter, here in California. Any tips?
People see the final result who say it’s easy or luck because they can’t imagine the process of getting there, just as the can’t imagine THEIR OWN way of getting there which is the exact same reason they are NOT there at the first place!
Yes but you'll need to make an appointment - just so that we can make sure we're in and not out with clients etc. Mail me: info@swarez.co.uk and we'll arrange it. Cheers. Ed
Just got hook on your videos. Some interesting art works. I think I heard you say you use enamels. I have been trying to find some high gloss paints to get a really wet look appearance and thought about enamels but I dont know where you by them from. Is there such a thing as artists enamel paints ?
You really radiate that you have commitment and that you have a strong willpower waiting to do all the necessary work to succeed and I really are gratefull for your sharing of very practical tips of how to work with home pGE AND SOCIAL MEDIA ti bring your work out in the World and make it visible and finding your audience. 🙏💜
Your words really speak me, thankyou! I admire your determination, grit and perseverance, I'm in the process of sorting my own crap out and I want to remove those blocks that holding me back. I have a question if you don't mind, when you made the decision that you were going to be a working artist what did you do to start? Did you have a plan? For example, did you work on your artistic skill first, or just create a body of work with a thought in mind (and what was that thought), and how did you come to that decision? I'm working through these problems myself and feeling a little lost at the moment but I know that I HAVE to do this, I would ask friends if I had them but working through these problems alone can be a little overwhelming and daunting. I have many more questions (I'm the curious type) but these are the ones I'm most curious about right now.
Basteth thanks for the great feedback and the excellent questions. I’ll probably do a video on that subject soon. But for now I concentrated on learning about what the materials did and what I liked to paint. That took five years before I had the balls to go for it. So yes, I built a body of work first before anything else. The plan was to have 100 really strong pieces and then go for it. Have a read though the back story in the link in gene description. That explains most of it. But sure, I’ll do a video to answer your questions soon. Really appreciate it. Thank you.
@@SwarezArt First of all, thanks for taking the time to reply. It makes sense, these are the two things that came up as key when I mind mapped it out and your comment confirms this, time to get my head down and tail up! Can't wait to see the video! I find you quite inspirational, go forth and conquer!
You don't need to be apologetic about this... definitely your goals and objectives mean so much to you and therefore you have accepted the reality of carrying your cross. The discerning hard workers obviously know you must have come a long way; being independent for that matter. EXCRUCIATING? Yes. Enjoy the results of your grind. You deserve them. I just subscribed because I see more in you--coming soon--aside your painting. Cheers.
Soooo true, What is Luck??? Apart from a POSITIVE MINDSET, YOU FORGOT TO MENTION GOD WHO IS FIRST AND ABOVE ALL. WITHOUT HIM, WE are NOWHERE IN THIS LIFE.
Sorry Joseph but I am not comfortable with being a critique of someone else's work and output. I don't believe anyone should be judge and jury like that. Apologies in advance, hope you understand...
Top video Ed. Nice gaff too , well done. As for Hirst ? Two things . 1: Saatchi 2: He stole the art he gets Saatchi to promote. Checkout " The Art Damien Hirst Stole" . As an artist , problem solving myself , could not believe what I saw. Good luck to you and Adrian too.
Indeed - luck plays a part in so many things but you can steer yourself into the direction you want to go AND succeed if you set your mind to something.

How did you choose your lighting? I've changed my living/dining area in my apartment into a gallery for my work (as opposed to waiting for some public gallery to give me a solo show). Unfortunately it doesn't get a lot of natural light especially since we are quickly moving into winter, here in California. Any tips?
I use a mixture of cool and warm white LED spotlight bulbs. The rest is fluorescent tubes (crap!) That's it realy, hope that helps?
@@SwarezArt Sure, thanks!
People see the final result who say it’s easy or luck because they can’t imagine the process of getting there, just as the can’t imagine THEIR OWN way of getting there which is the exact same reason they are NOT there at the first place!
👁👁 inspiring, Thanks.👍
Thanks for this video. I was on the verge of quitting art and take up an instrument. I need to stick with my passion for painting.
I,m glad i could help keep your passion going, don,t forget though it,s your heart that has made you stick with it, i,m just here to remind you ;)
@SwarezArt Hi Swarex how do you price your artwork, like litterally? thank you
I did a video on that - it may help: ruclips.net/video/IhPL2owJeTk/видео.html
Would love to visit your gallery. I’m coming up to the Cotswolds in a couple of weeks time. Are you open to the public?
Yes but you'll need to make an appointment - just so that we can make sure we're in and not out with clients etc. Mail me: info@swarez.co.uk and we'll arrange it. Cheers. Ed
Just got hook on your videos. Some interesting art works. I think I heard you say you use enamels. I have been trying to find some high gloss paints to get a really wet look appearance and thought about enamels but I dont know where you by them from. Is there such a thing as artists enamel paints ?
kernowarty not that I’m aware of? Mine are specially made for me. Awful to work with but produce amazing results
Truth
Great
Thank you
My pleasure!
LOVE your statement. Keep your level of energy like that. It´s going to motivate peaple. It´s motivating me. Cool.
Cheers Dirk, really appreciate that!
you may consider rerecording due to the audio. I think you fixed it in the newest camera setup. Its a nightmare to get it right.
Indeed it is! Perhaps i can at some point. Thanks for that!
Yoda--to Skywalker--Do or Do not there is no try,
LOL :)
Thank you Lis; that’s very kind of you 😊👍
👍👏
The sound quality in this video is bad - but the energy an message is excellent. Thx 😊
Martin Vestergaard Portraits it’s a replacement mic whilst I’m waiting for a new one to arrive.
Is there any way I can send u some of my art for u to look at
Sorry Joseph but I am not comfortable with being a critique of someone else's work and output. I don't believe anyone should be judge and jury like that. Apologies in advance, hope you understand...
That's not what meant but thanks just wanted u too see my style
Top video Ed. Nice gaff too , well done. As for Hirst ? Two things . 1: Saatchi 2: He stole the art he gets Saatchi to promote. Checkout " The Art Damien Hirst Stole" . As an artist , problem solving myself , could not believe what I saw. Good luck to you and Adrian too.
I will go check on that! Sounds insane? Thanks foR your kind words - we both really appreciate them!
luck also plays a part tho, you may not find the solution sometimes
Indeed - luck plays a part in so many things but you can steer yourself into the direction you want to go AND succeed if you set your mind to something.
