    In this video I want to start off the journey of creating (or updating) a website and try to make the steps, advice and journey as straightforward ans stress-free as possible.
    We start the process in this first video with a blank sheet of paper and an exercise in writing down the words that best describe what you do and what you want o be found for.
    I also call this your 'intent'. These words will be used later on down the line to form the backbone of what you say and how you speak on your website. These key words will are the bricks and everything else will cement them together into something strong.
    I mention that I am going to post links to further your understanding and research so here goes:
    First up is this article which defines what keywords are and why they are important: www.yola.com/b... - don't worry too much about other terminology at this stage.
    Next is a link to some free tools to research how popular your own keywords are; this will help you understand whether some will be more important to you than others. Yoast is a highly respected company specializing in Search Optimization in the website (Wordpress platform)community. Try this: yoast.com/keyw...
    Next up you could do with understanding a little more about how Google works - this is directly from them and is a really good way of introducing you to some search terminology to get you used to what i will be talking about in future videos. www.google.com...
    This is also a good one to look at too: computer.howst...
    Number two in my series of videos will cover which platform to choose, what to look for in a Webhost and why you need a decent domain name.

    Fantastic video as always. I look forward to the next one. Key words/SEO is something that I’ve always had issues with.
    I’ve created my own website using Bootstrap studios. It can take a bit of time to get used to, but I find it saves money in the long run (no monthly subscription fee). You do need to be confident with the software, but I learned the basics through you tube videos. Where there’s a will, there’s a way 😊👏👏👏

    Nice work Ed, Easy to understand and simple to follow.. I might be jumping a head here but when you post an image on your new web site put a word title on it, don't list it as image 1,2,3, 1800mm x 900mm etc The crawlers predominantly search for words, and will only recognize very popular images. Key word search is King.....

      You should be using keywords to define yourself to begin with then forming what you do around that. Most often you'll need a page title and page description and you content/website dashboard should allow you to input this somewhere. Construct them wisely and search online for tips on how to create page titles and compelling descriptions. That would be a great place to start!

    Love your rolodex analogy. It speaks to older people like myself who actually know what they are (were). In terms of key search words, is it a matter of using all of them in one sentence somewhere on my website? In other words, does there have to be at least one sentence chock full of descriptors embedded in the text of my website somewhere for Google to pick it up? Or does it only pick up the most frequently used terms in my text, whether they are used in the same sentence or not? Or is this something you cover in the videos to follow?

    • @SwarezArt
      @SwarezArt  3 года назад +1

      Please don't do that! if you try to spam in all your words somewhere Google will recognize that and penalize you. Instead look for a more holistic approach. Use keywords to determine the tone and writing on your page so that you can concentrate on making it relevant to them. Use them in your titles and descriptions too. But write naturally, not with the search engines in mind. If you search for the Google Beginner Guide to SEO you will learn a lot.

      If you want to do larger paintings then I'm not sure what to suggest other than buying larger canvases and painting them...! That's all I did. Apart from space to work and store what else is stopping you?
      If you paint in multiple genres why do you want to combine them? I don't understand what you mean sorry. If you have clear distinctions between your work then simply reflect that on your site/media accounts/photographs and categorize/organise and describe them appropriately. That's only my opinion of course. Hope that helps!

      @@SwarezArt Sorry to confuse you. Yes, I am working towards doing larger paintings, clearing space to do so etc. What I meant was for the page with the description of what my art is. I do have categories in my online store but people still seem to get confused. I am often asked why don't I just stick to one kind of art, like just painting in acrylic.
      My art is not just one category, I have a range of sizes and a few different mediums with a goal to do large canvases of nature or abstracts. I have several mediums and I have printed some of my art onto products. To me the categories make sense. How do you respond to those who say one category or type of art only?

    How could this work for musicians and composers ?

    • @SwarezArt
      @SwarezArt  4 года назад +1

      Exactly the same. Ask yourself what it is you do and what services you provide. Composer: what do you compose for? Events? Film/TV? Backing music? Specialist areas? Instruments? Musicians: instruments played? Travel service? Composing? Commissioned scores? Session work? Production? It will also help to define who it is you are targeting - eg. industry/label/A&R people or private sector clients? Or both? Orchestras? Bands? recording studios? TV production companies? Where is it that you want your income to come from. Define it with the words you use. Just my two minute thoughts - hope that helps!

      Too big an answer for comments sections! I have a few videos about that from a few years ago. But I would be very specific about what it is you are aiming for to begin with. You need to define your customer and go find them. Unless you want to go down the gallery route in which case start knocking on doors with your portfolio....

    Thank you much, Ed for taking the time to make this video. I'm always dumbstruck when it comes to the SEO part. I do know its function overall but how to and where to start on my website is something that feels like alien language to me and uou make it sound like English in this video 😁 I built my own site but I'm not too sure if I should be doing anything else with it. If it's not too much trouble, can you please take a look at it and advise me if there is anything that I should be paying attention to? Thank you so much, Ed! 😊

      Your website is so much bigger than just optimizing for search. This is what many fail to realize but something we will talk in great detail about later. It's primarily about the user. They have to come first. If you create the greatest art ever known you can piss everyone off by giving them a poor online experience. Your site needs a holistic approach to everything you put in to it. We'll cover all this over the coming weeks...

      @@SwarezArt Thank you so much Ed for this. My knowledge of having one is just so that I have an online portfolio, something that can be browsed easily, at least that was I was being told, but apparently it is not the case 😔I really appreciate your advice and thoughts about it and definitely looking forward to the coming videos 😊
