  • An EPIC client showed up at our door and demanded that we make his 2024 RAM3500 massive. Challenge accepted. We ordered up all the AEV components we could find and started cutting up the body to fit some massive 40" tires. In this episode, the Ginger goes over the suspension components, necessary steering upgrades and handles the air saw like a boss. Stay tuned for the finished product - part 2 coming shortly!

    I live on Lake Superior and was sure hoping you are re-priming and painting those areas you cut. If not, I can only imagine how fast the road salt would rust those fenders to hell and back.

    What an epic build ❤ Wish I could have 3500 AEV Prospector XL down here in the Middle East 😢. Would love to utilise the 8ft rear, remove the bed and get a tray & canopy setup. Would the best platform.

    My first mod would be a quick removal kit for the box. You can’t get out of a parking spot little alone an off-road trail. I used to enjoys F350 crewcab 4x4. I live near an army base. I would run the tank trails. It was the only serious off-road I could run without destroying the truck.

      We do plan to re-gear this truck and add front & rear lockers but currently it looks like aftermarket lockers don't exist yet for one of the two diffs and the only re-gearing choice is 4.44 gear and the customer would prefer 4.88

    • @TheEPICBeardedGinger
      @TheEPICBeardedGinger 6 месяцев назад

      Shaun's driveshaft didn't break any housing on his AEV Ram 2500 build, we will be looking into Shauns next week as all parts AEV requires for that build were installed.

    On my last Easter Jeep Safari trip, there was a guy rocking a Power Wagon on the trail. It was like watching a whale navigate a swimming pool. It got through the trails, but with a whole lot of scraping and grinding noises. It was kind of ugly to watch.

    How does that kit and the new tire height improve the approach, breakover and departure angles for that length of truck? Is that truck for general overlanding? How does that compare to Carli?

    • @TheEPICBeardedGinger
      @TheEPICBeardedGinger 6 месяцев назад +1

      Pretty much all lifts improve approach, break over and departure angles, as for this kit compared to Carli suspension, I personally believe they are two completely different types of kits. The Carli is definitely designed for more high speed abuse and this is more of an overloading style kit. This truck is built to haul his sleds around and tow a small off-road trail, no major wheeling.

      @@TheEPICBeardedGinger Cool ! I may have to take another look at AEV for my next build as my use case is similar to what you just described. Towing a custom toy hauler with enduros and a Jeep around Alberta/BC and to Florida, Texas, Moab and Baja, mild offroad/ maybe recovery if absolutely necessary. Don't want to race the tow rig. Don't know about the 40's though, 37's or 38's seem to fit for the amount of highway I'm looking at.

    Why a spacer and not a new drive shaft? I've never seen anyone, (admittedly on youtube), ever do this.

    • @TheEPICBeardedGinger
      @TheEPICBeardedGinger 6 месяцев назад

      Surprisingly almost all lift kits for Ram 2500/3500s always come with a driveshaft spacer, we probably are one of the few that have been putting in custom driveshaft on builds to avoid doing transferase clocking on 4" lift builds which saves several issues that can arise with the transmission.

      Everyone likely uses spacers to keep cost down and not add something that requires maintenance like a double cardin joint in a driveshaft that no one will remember to do 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @snappersboy
    @snappersboy 6 месяцев назад +1

    Not very impressive considering the “pros” missed the critical issue of front drive-shaft not being the right length. Sean had to disconnect the front shaft and rely on on rear drive only on the way to the arctic circle. Unacceptable.

    Looks little cheap lift kit

    • @TheEPICBeardedGinger
      @TheEPICBeardedGinger 6 месяцев назад +2

      So all components are very high quality USA made parts, I do agree it looks like the kit doesn’t come with many parts and to most people getting spacers front and rear may seem like cheaping out but… AEV goes for the utilitarian approach, they wanted to maintain all the towing and truck capabilities hence the rear spacer block and using the OE rear leafs, they wanted to avoid having to clock the transfercase and create all kinds of issues by staying at 3” of lift height, and lastly the Ram HD trucks have over 30 front spring combinations due to the vast varying options on these trucks so to save making a coil to try and do the “jack of all trades” thing they designed a crazy cast steel spring spacer to not only lift the truck and keep the coil in its proper operation zone but also move the axle forward to provide tire clearance. Also there are a couple other neat parts but you get the gist.

    • @thecrazybarber
      @thecrazybarber 5 месяцев назад

      definitely not a cheap kit
