@@dougcameron6609 alexi was probably hurt in his youth but he was not an evil or disturbed man. stfu with that shit when you dotn know anything about the man.
For all the s&%t that some people talk about Alexi, he has one of the most distinctive voices on the instrument that I have heard of any player in the modern era. I do hear a clear Randy Rhoads influence along with stylistic nods to Eddie, Steve Vai, even Dime, but he is never guilty of apeing any of them. Instead he has seamlessly fused some seriously impressive technique to create a very heavy but incredibly melodic and listenable style, part heavy metal, part hard rock with a bluesy edge, very fluid and 100% Alexi. Add to this his brilliant compositional skills and that is why he is in another league to most players. Is he a bit sloppy and unfocused at times, definitely, but I would take his playing anyday over most of the supposedly superior players.
The secret is that he has mastered his right handed alt-picking style, much like the master of alt-picking in metal Michael Angelo Batio! So many guitarists ignore the right hand for the left...
Thanks a lot! Yeah, it's really irritating trying to find a video that focuses on both hands and not just the left, the left hand should always progress from what the right is doing!
I agree. I mean at first I had strong opinions against it but then it really started to grow on me with the catchy riffs and all that. While I do prefer albums like Hatebreeder or Follow The Reaper, this one’s not that bad 👌🤘
Idc what anyone says the way he puts songs together Riffs, melody, solos, he's a damn good composer and musician. There's alot more to guitar then just how fast u can play or technical stuff. Hes a good creator
What à marvellous talent of a man, he brought us so much joy with his music, he ain't gone, he's just around the corner waiting for us at the gates 🤘😎🙏
Elisson Espinal Yeah, I never really cared for the vocals and can't even hear what he's singing. I kinda liked that "black metal" style thing he had in the early days but I could live without it. Musically it's phenomenal, always loved Laiho's compositions.
i've never been into Black Metal.... i prefer progressive metal and it's lyrics about gazing reality rather than SATAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN (i'm just joking about the stereotypes)
Agree completely. Usually I only listen to metal for the interplay between the instruments anyway (rare exceptions include Randy Blythe and Devin Townsend), so instrumental versions would rock my socks.
Watching him perform on this show you can't help but admiring this guy's natural talent. Playing great rythems that sound really good and are very catchy also. He will be greatly missed.
I love all Alexi's work the man was pure gold he helped me get better on accoustic I haven't gotten around to electric yet but I can play the he'll out of bodom songs on accoustic
He's such a legend..uses ZERO to hide his playing...doesn't even use a solo tone with extra gain, delay, or reverb. etc..I see so many great covers of alexi that you think sound better n all, but for a fact, its literally just their tone. When he would record the albums it carries such a different sound and its some of my top fav. lead tone, style, and playing all together. You just get that rawraw when you hear play thrus..if you boosted the gain a bit, messed with the amps eq, he'd sound like any dude playing today, but with all the OG magic that he as a legend is. I always wanted to jus hear him riff n shred for hrs with jus real good live tone play thru tone in a comfy room for him..theres the play thru with roope of are you dead yet where u hear how u nails his stuff, or u can listen to albums..but dude was so punk rock in that regards to not caring about that other angle of playn and jus being the rawest cuz he did has all the capability to be able to pull it off. Jus saw Kim Goss talk about how he would not put down his guitar even on off days on the road..be practicing for hours in the hotel rooms, daily. LOVE ALEXI 4lyyyyfefefe
I've always thought this was a rocking song with some downright sexy guitar work. RRF seem to be cast aside but I think it has some great classic Laiho songs.
Wow! That tremolo bar scream note was awesome! In addition to his great playing, I've also noticed the clarity he gets with that EMG positioned at the bridge. Crisp attack, clear note definition even with amp cranked to high gain, plus good strong EMG lows and mids.
That's exactly how I hold my King V RRV and Flying Vs when I sit and play. Looks weird but it works once used to it. He's an exceptional world class player. Also remember he sings on top of all that complex rhythm work! Badass😎
well if you watch the last two times hes played it live you wouldnt. maybe if hes in the emg studio he would do better because he wouldnt have to sing and play at once and he could sit down to. that song is really hard.
@Janusz Regula Yes he had an injury which would never completely heal so after are you dead yet he had to relearn how to play guitar so that's why he plays simpler stuff and kinda struggles at the older songs but with Hexed he really showcased that he can shred and that he ain't done yet
Weather it’s C# Standard or D Standard or Drop C or Drop B Children of Bodom kick butt and Alexi Laiho is beast on guitar kicking butt every day! R.I.P to another legend in the game of music! 🎼
Josh Bennett dude the thing is that the riffs Mark's playing arent the most demadning ones in the world, but they are really creative, and they connect to each other really well, although you need to give his work some time to see how great it is ;) After some time, you'll start to see that every song that he's playing means a lot more than just a few riffs put together, and some fast solos in between of those riffs, every one of them tells a fascinating, unique story ;)
+arcykaplanhehe I'll take your word for it dude. I've never really been into....I guess you can say melodic stuff. it's always been pretty thrashy and dirty. I'm sure mark is a great guitarist and loved by a lot of people. I just like the way it sounds.
Josh Bennett Well it took me a few months to really get into his stuff, but i regret nothing! and i'd strongly recommend you to do the same thing :) and also if u play the guitar, his music can be really inspirational
I bought the EMG ALX-HZ passive humbucking pickup and I am torn. As far as shredding, that is what that pickup excels at. The midrange and treble bands are very strong. But I can't get any bottom! I never thought a pickup would be so tailored to one specific aspect of the guitar. It is a very tight, very focused low end. So trying to play something like Black Sabbath where you need some flub on the low E string...this is not your pickup. It is like the Mick Thompson Active Blackout's. It is not a bad pickup, just very specific on what it does. My vote? If you are a pure shredder, get this. If you are more a rhythm guy, go with something more like a Seymour Duncan JB. That pickup is more general purpose and not so focused on lead playing.
i have a fender telecaster jim root all black and the specs of the guitar are amazing, good wood, took off the EMG for dimarzio super distortion bridge and super 2 neck, i will never sell this guitar.
I was seriously thinking the same damn thing. He’s like Rhodes reincarnation into the world of modern metal.. I’ve thought that since I first started to pay attention to his guitar playing.. and he is amazing
I actually like RRF a lot, even though it has gotten a lot of shit from the fans. It is more rock'n roll and riff-oriented, I'd say even "happier" than their other stuff. It is not their best record, but perfect for a workout or a car ride.

Alexi in an interview said it was his least favourite album, lol.
I quite like it though. Pretty cool tone too.
Honestly one of my favorite COB albums
It's actually one of my go to albums when I'm in a COB mood.
I agree, man! It’s different than their early stuff but there’s plenty of great stuff!
Dude knows how to use his right hand! Outstanding pick-work!
Very clean, always hard to hear Alexi Laiho play a wrong note. Phenomenal..
Would love to see Jari Maenpaa on one of these videos!
I second that entirely
OMG yes, that would be awesome. It is a shame.. that it seems Jari does not have a signed deal with EMG. He is using EMG in all his main guitars tho.
Jari is way too busy taking holiday pictures. :DD
