thumb under technique is the only technique that works for me for those fast runs... I have even applied it to guitar, trouble is I'm having difficulty switching back to the other technique for Baroque lute..

That kind of thumb under-index finger lasted until the mid of 18th century with guitar players! Even with the little finger put on the soundboard.

Exquisite! Although I have to admit, I am a bit puzzled by his right hand technique: quite unlike anything you'll find in most textbooks I think.

+Lute Society Of America I only know of Diana Poulton's An Introduction to Lute Playing (which, being about 50 years old, probably is outdated by now). I'm not very familiar with 16th and 17th century sources, but I do believe that they tend to agree that the little finger of the right hand should be placed on the top, next to or near the bridge. But of course I may be misinformed.

+Andre Nieuwlaat From personal experience, i can tell you it's really hard to play runs that far down. Maybe that was indicative of baroque lutes (I wouldn't know, i'm not experienced with them or the technique), but playing fast thumb under runs is hell when you're so far down

What does it matter? Beautiful sound, brilliant and moving performance: that is what matters.
