As someone who watched the whole series from the first episode of 2005 all the way until the end of the reboot (minus watching the movie), I must say every show is for a set of people in their generations and it shows. Plus once you get passed season 1 of the reboot, it somehow gets better (and/worse depending on your thoughts) and showing how the reboot will do what its predecessors did with new gimmicks and ideas. Like vilgax in the original series is a threat but the reboot has him being a threat to Ben AND a mentor to him since he knows much about the watch. Now, Kevin’s hard to talk about especially since people hate how he was given a watch in the reboot but technically speaking, the Original series was gonna give him an omnitrix before it was scrapped.

I’m glad this show is being revisited. I thought Ink Tank would be the one to do it but I think people had such a knee jerk reaction to this when it came out as “oh look, another Cartoon Network reboot” they didn’t actually give it a chance. It’s pretty good and entertaining.
The problem with the reboot isn't with the show itself, but the market for animation at the time. There was certainly a move against action based cartoons, especially full half hour ones. And while we can say that most of CN's 11 minute shows at the time grew to dramatic, dynamic character pieces that got strangely deep, they were also shows with huge late teen and adult fanbases. The Ben 10 reboot was for toy buying 8 year olds, and it was successful at that. I saw a kid wearing an Omnitrex on the train from work when the show was on. The thing that baffled me, however, was before the reboot, the last few B10 seasons were designated to the same 6 AM Sunday death slots that killed other action shows at the time. Why would they want to cash in off the franchise when they were clearly checked out at that point. Oh, and the WORST reboot of all time is George of the Jungle 2007. If the live action movies did better service to the original, you know you done fucked up.

I will never get over the fact that in the Reboot Ben made fun of Kevin for having crappy parents (but we hadn't known at that point so for all we knew they most likely could've been dead and Ben was making fun of someone for having dead parents which would've been way worse) in the one episode, the fact that he immediately regretted it after saying it means he knew what Kevin's homelife was like and still thought it necessary to hit him where he knew it would hurt instead of trying to be the bigger person. The reboot definitely had crappy moments like that but I will say that it made Gwen and Ben's dynamic more tolerable than the OG since they weren't constantly at each other's throats to the point where their parents couldn't even hang out. It even crossed over with Generator Rex (which was another show made by Man of Action) and I'm glad that it gave that show attention given how underrated it was and how CN treated it. And the humor is cool when they're not focusing on outdated trends or toilet humor, that joke about Ben saying Kevin is the reason why he's afraid of public bathrooms in Kevin's debut ep was hilarious.
i'ma be real honest, as somebody who loves the reboot, season 1 is very hit or miss, usually miss. a combination of trying to figure out what there meant to do with a reboot like this, nd CN's mediling because it ain't a ben 10 show without CN mediling. by season 2 they had a much clearer idea and decided to do a lot of new stuff. a lot of early season 1 was trying to mirror season 1 of classic, water filters is essentially episode 3 of the show, despite being the premiere, it takes the same kind of spot the krakken does, expecting you to know how this world already works, so they can focus on the episodic fun, but they never set up the world. it was a realy weird choice, and through the whole show, the closest we get to a real episode one was a time traveling episode who's main joke was that the timeline kept on messing up. another example would be the wrestling episode later on in early season 1. even the first reboot game felt like it was written far earlier in production then the series it's self as ben and Gwen act way more like there classic counterparts with the bickerin and everything, it's not a well written game, TBH. that game showed me why they made ben and Gwen act more like close friends then rivaling cousins. later on Gwen does get a full personality, but max... well he wasn't even confirmed to be a plumber until the last second because he just doesn't matter that much to the reboot, as it's far more focused on ben and gwen, and later on, Kevin. being honest tho, he seems to have no idea about vilgax, and in classic vilgax was the thing that forced max to give up his secret, so without the vilgax connection, i don't think classic max would've given up his secret, not until far later on anyways. i like the brains and brawn dynamic they have with ben and Gwen, especially once they flesh out her personality and i do genuinely think it's an improvement on classic where by season 3, they kinda ran out of stuff to do with Gwen so they gave her magic, but then they barely used her magic for most of the rest of the show. classic Gwen having magic felt like a crutch, especially by season 4 when it was clear that season probably wasn't planned out that well. Over all, first season of the reboot is pretty off, but that's pretty natural for most shows TBH. it's just worse for this show because it's a reboot of a Beloved classic, only 2 years after the last show, and it has the original 4 guys who made the first show attached.
I'm not even a big fan of Ben 10 and I think the Ben 10 fans were done MUCH dirtier than the PPG fans (who by the way think the anime is amazing when it's generic, below mid level shojo for 8 year olds). PPG16 can be blamed on the fact they had writers who, while being fans of the show, only had a surface level fan fic understanding of the series, among other things. Ben 10 was supposedly the same team that did the original being told to dumb it down for a kiddy audience. Which is quite honestly worse.

@@Mooms Every problem I've heard of the show is nitpicky, when there is a more substantial failing. The original PPG was meant as an all ages (especially grown adult cartoon watchers) and genderless viewership. A show for everybody. The PPG reboot was specifically aimed at little girls and threw in edutainment episodes on occasion. And I wouldn't doubt for a second, CN had some executive meddling that kept the show a kiddy show, rather than the show made by adults for cartoon fans that just so happened to be categorized as "children's entertainment." And the self insert dweeb didn't bug me as much because of all the underage cartoon characters that get dumped on disturbingly fetish fan art. Once had to look up Grim Adventures Mandy for picture reference and got something vile.
From the perspective of a hard-core Ben 10 fan who followed the franchise from the Original series all the way till Omniverse a strong dislike for the reboot from hard-core fans was because of the mistreatment CN gave to Omniverse's last 3 seasons. They aired the last 3 seasons on a 6 AM dead timeslot and basically left the series to die. I was a high school freshman at the time and was lucky to see them as I was getting ready for school, but most fans weren't lucky. It's a shame because those last seasons had some of the fandoms' favorite episodes in the franchise air. It's a shame people at the time didn't get to see the end of Ben's journey. It was hard enough that Omniverse was the most controversial series within the prime continuity due to the art style and tone change, but casting the show away at sea like that felt like a middle finger to fans and because of that fans immediately hated the reboot all the way back when leaks of the reboot were uploaded online. On the plus side, those who stopped watching Ben 10 about the time of Ultimate Alien (the third show), who were disgusted by the reboot, gave Omniverse a try and often regretted not watching it when it aired. I believe that the hatred of the reboot ignited people's enthusiasm for Omniverse, to the point where most people regard Omniverse with the same conviction as the previous three series. As time has changed, the most common belief about the reboot is that it gets better with the season one finale onwards, and honestly, I agree. Unlike Teen Titans Go or Power Puff Girls 2016 the Ben 10 reboot respects what came before it and often has callbacks to the prime continuity (the original 4 shows) to the point where stand ins of the original 4 Ben's crossover with the reboot Ben in the series finale. Yeah, the reboot rehashs ideas from the original shows here and there like the reboot's first movie being similar to Secret of the Omnitrix or them having a Generator Rex crossover but the reboot has it's own original plots too like the Fulmini story or the series finale. I don't think the reboot's image will ever change in the public viewpoint but among fans its definitely seen more positively. For what the reboot is and how it limited it had to be because of CN I no longer hate it.
I was 13 when Ben 10 was out so i was kinda old for cartoons but I did see the odd episode of OG Ben 10 as a late teen/early adult it was decent I remember the hate for the reboot but i didn’t pay much attention to it
One of the highest points I'll give the reboot is that there's a plotline where Ben changes into Vilgax's species, and that's a very interesting story to explore~
I actually enjoyed Reboot for a few things. Sure it did a lot of dumb shite, but here's what I think are positives of the reboot: -Hardly reuses transformation animations and each sequence is a new animation -Gwen and Ben's dynamic is actually more consistent than the OG. They bicker yes, but they team up better than they did in the OG. -The omnitrix designs are actually pretty cool and the reasoning behind each design goes hard (in my honest opinion) -The different alien upgrades not only look cool but give the aliens amazing abilities -Also I agree with the Kevin points

This episode was a lot different from your other episodes of It's Just a Cartoon!, which isn't a bad thing. When you first teased this episode at the end of the FU Bendy episode, I thought this was just going to be covering an episode of the original Ben 10, but instead, you compared the first episodes of both the original series and the reboot and how they introduced the characters and the story. I'd like to see you do something like this with other rebooted cartoons, but I also can't wait to see what you do for the next episode of It's Just a Cartoon! (even though, does this really still count as an episode of IJAC?).

Here's my lists what I hate and like about the Reboot. Likes: - The Omni Kix Armor - Glitch - The Forever Knight - Vilgax being Azmuth's apprentice - Azmuth having telepathic powers - The Omnitrix Limiter and Shortcut What I hated: - The characters - Lack of serious tone - No narrative story - the alien's reboot design. - Overusing the same roster of aliens - The villains aren't threatening - The Master Control is just a temporary power up. - Antitrix being built out of household scraps. - The identities of the aliens used to cross contaminated and mutates the aliens were never reveal. - Alien V got nerfed. - Generator Rex coexist in Ben's World yet we saw no EVO. - The Xerges - The entirety of Alien X-tinction - The idea of Reboot was originally going to be an anime style series.
I'll admit, the reboot does some things worse than the original series, but it also gives us a few new things as well. - A few new aliens for Ben (Overflow [or basically Water Hazard], Shock Rock, and Slapback) - Some new functions of the Omnitrix (Omni-Enhancement, Omni-Kix, Omni-Naut) - They even recycled the idea of Kevin's Antitrix, which was a concept scrapped from the original series.
Also ngl, they played Vilgax well, UAF Vilgax wasnt tha same as his old self but he still was a nice antagonist but he felt off, and ominverse for me just watered vilgax down and he realy was un-intresting, the reboot took him in a diferent way with a diferent lore that actualy worked well for the reboot and i still like classic vilgax the best but the reboot one is definetly on the second place for me due to him being more intresting of a character instead of just a power hungry guy that hates Ben kinda like how UAF vilgax was
ben 10 was originally good, but literally every show now became a gravity falls in art style and fucked off from the good art style that it used to have, like literally omniverse was the most stylish out of the series yet they went to "reboot" which I like to call downgrading the animation and art style to make ben 10 trash, yes the show is for kids, but it could've been a better kids' show cuz even my younger brother hated the show, like bro! yes the transformation scenes change everytime but literally, it becomes for the worse, like literally in alien force/ultimate alien the transformations never get boring, even if they reuse the same animation, because they actually put love in the transformation scenes but now it's put on with greed.
Honestly I didnt hate the reboot, I admit they did make an pleasant turn for Kevin here. The only thing negative I have to say about the series is Wildvine and Stinkfly’s designs, like I dont care about the new style of the series but like seriously man come on those two are just people in costumes
Okay I need to admit... I love it. Season 1 was a bit of a chore. At least Ben isn't overly obnoxious and neither is Gwen. I think it's better then other reboots, but I like the original more.

6:10 you say that Ben and Gwen should've asked Max for knowledge on the creature because he's a plumber, but how would the kids know this? They didn't even know that in classic until Max told them at the end of season 1. Also unlike classic, there's no implications that Max is a plumber in this continuity either. At least not at this point in the series. It's true that they probably shouldn't have skipped the origin story, however as kids continue to watch the show they will begin to understand how the omnitrix works. They probably would even get an idea just from this episode alone. Also we do see how Ben got the omnitrix later on in the show. In the Reboot, Kevin is still a neglected kid, he had an abusive father. Other than this, I agree with everything you say here.
It's amazing Matt how resistant your parents were to cable until DTV really became a thing only two years later. I also know though unfortunate you started watching Ben 10 on Cartoon Network at a time I had already stopped regularly watching my favorite shows on that channel as well as for Nickelodeon. But this may also explain how you know about the show Arthur so well and are obviously qualified to speak on his annoying little sister DW. I'm a New Jersey guy obviously in the NYC area even though I was fortunate to already have cable in the early 90's. But if you grew up in the black-and-white era and those TVs were still around at the time, the only channels I remember that usually worked around my way were 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13. I'm positive for many of you elsewhere in America some of your main broadcast channels had higher numbers.
Silly gimmicks and catchphrases like Ben-tuition They can be annoying but as far as the actual season finales of Ben 10 reboot goes, They were all pretty damn good. The Fulmini invasion in S2 as well as Kevin and forever night working together in season 3 and 4 were pretty interesting. I quite enjoyed the movie Ben 10 versus the Universe as well, It was a different take on secret of the Omnitrix. as far as art style animation goes, I can understand that there are people who doesn't like art style of reboot but the actual animation is really smooth In fact they even use some anime-esque animation movement during one of the fights on the train which rarely get to see in a kids animated show on cartoon Network of all places where the camera constantly moving as the action is going on. There's RUclipsr who made a video on it. Overall reboot obviously not better than the original show but then again Duncan rouleau said "They wanted to introduce the show to younger audience with comedy" in one of his interviews and it succeeded. It ran from 2016 till 2021 Which is longer than any individual than 10 Ben show, different people have different taste but it's nowhere near as worse as people made it out to be. I watched all Ben 10 shows growing up as well as their movies and I'd be fully honest, I enjoyed Reboot it was fun and light heated ❤️
Personally, the classic series is, in fact, better, but i don't think it's fair to judge them on the first episode, especially since I've heard the reboot gets better by season 3 and has a lot of plot points they can expand on in the future but i will say the classic series to me almost does everything the reboot does better the one thing i like is all the features the reboot ben has like he's able to add new aliens to his omnitrix for example

i'ma be real honest, as somebody who loves the reboot, season 1 is very hit or miss, usually miss. a combination of trying to figure out what there meant to do with a reboot like this, nd CN's mediling because it ain't a ben 10 show without CN mediling. by season 2 they had a much clearer idea and decided to do a lot of new stuff. a lot of early season 1 was trying to mirror season 1 of classic, water filters is essentially episode 3 of the show, despite being the premiere, it takes the same kind of spot the krakken does, expecting you to know how this world already works, so they can focus on the episodic fun, but they never set up the world. it was a realy weird choice, and through the whole show, the closest we get to a real episode one was a time traveling episode who's main joke was that the timeline kept on messing up. another example would be the wrestling episode later on in early season 1. even the first reboot game felt like it was written far earlier in production then the series it's self as ben and Gwen act way more like there classic counterparts with the bickerin and everything, it's not a well written game, TBH. that game showed me why they made ben and Gwen act more like close friends then rivaling cousins. later on Gwen does get a full personality, but max... well he wasn't even confirmed to be a plumber until the last second because he just doesn't matter that much to the reboot, as it's far more focused on ben and gwen, and later on, Kevin. being honest tho, he seems to have no idea about vilgax, and in classic vilgax was the thing that forced max to give up his secret, so without the vilgax connection, i don't think classic max would've given up his secret, not until far later on anyways. i like the brains and brawn dynamic they have with ben and Gwen, especially once they flesh out her personality and i do genuinely think it's an improvement on classic where by season 3, they kinda ran out of stuff to do with Gwen so they gave her magic, but then they barely used her magic for most of the rest of the show. classic Gwen having magic felt like a crutch, especially by season 4 when it was clear that season probably wasn't planned out that well.
Over all, first season of the reboot is pretty off, but that's pretty natural for most shows TBH. it's just worse for this show because it's a reboot of a Beloved classic, only 2 years after the last show, and it has the original 4 guys who made the first show attached.

I'm not even a big fan of Ben 10 and I think the Ben 10 fans were done MUCH dirtier than the PPG fans (who by the way think the anime is amazing when it's generic, below mid level shojo for 8 year olds). PPG16 can be blamed on the fact they had writers who, while being fans of the show, only had a surface level fan fic understanding of the series, among other things. Ben 10 was supposedly the same team that did the original being told to dumb it down for a kiddy audience. Which is quite honestly worse.

@@Mooms Every problem I've heard of the show is nitpicky, when there is a more substantial failing. The original PPG was meant as an all ages (especially grown adult cartoon watchers) and genderless viewership. A show for everybody. The PPG reboot was specifically aimed at little girls and threw in edutainment episodes on occasion. And I wouldn't doubt for a second, CN had some executive meddling that kept the show a kiddy show, rather than the show made by adults for cartoon fans that just so happened to be categorized as "children's entertainment."
And the self insert dweeb didn't bug me as much because of all the underage cartoon characters that get dumped on disturbingly fetish fan art. Once had to look up Grim Adventures Mandy for picture reference and got something vile.
From the perspective of a hard-core Ben 10 fan who followed the franchise from the Original series all the way till Omniverse a strong dislike for the reboot from hard-core fans was because of the mistreatment CN gave to Omniverse's last 3 seasons. They aired the last 3 seasons on a 6 AM dead timeslot and basically left the series to die. I was a high school freshman at the time and was lucky to see them as I was getting ready for school, but most fans weren't lucky. It's a shame because those last seasons had some of the fandoms' favorite episodes in the franchise air. It's a shame people at the time didn't get to see the end of Ben's journey.
It was hard enough that Omniverse was the most controversial series within the prime continuity due to the art style and tone change, but casting the show away at sea like that felt like a middle finger to fans and because of that fans immediately hated the reboot all the way back when leaks of the reboot were uploaded online.
On the plus side, those who stopped watching Ben 10 about the time of Ultimate Alien (the third show), who were disgusted by the reboot, gave Omniverse a try and often regretted not watching it when it aired. I believe that the hatred of the reboot ignited people's enthusiasm for Omniverse, to the point where most people regard Omniverse with the same conviction as the previous three series.
As time has changed, the most common belief about the reboot is that it gets better with the season one finale onwards, and honestly, I agree. Unlike Teen Titans Go or Power Puff Girls 2016 the Ben 10 reboot respects what came before it and often has callbacks to the prime continuity (the original 4 shows) to the point where stand ins of the original 4 Ben's crossover with the reboot Ben in the series finale. Yeah, the reboot rehashs ideas from the original shows here and there like the reboot's first movie being similar to Secret of the Omnitrix or them having a Generator Rex crossover but the reboot has it's own original plots too like the Fulmini story or the series finale. I don't think the reboot's image will ever change in the public viewpoint but among fans its definitely seen more positively. For what the reboot is and how it limited it had to be because of CN I no longer hate it.

I was 13 when Ben 10 was out so i was kinda old for cartoons but I did see the odd episode of OG Ben 10 as a late teen/early adult it was decent I remember the hate for the reboot but i didn’t pay much attention to it

One of the highest points I'll give the reboot is that there's a plotline where Ben changes into Vilgax's species, and that's a very interesting story to explore~

I actually enjoyed Reboot for a few things. Sure it did a lot of dumb shite, but here's what I think are positives of the reboot:
-Hardly reuses transformation animations and each sequence is a new animation
-Gwen and Ben's dynamic is actually more consistent than the OG. They bicker yes, but they team up better than they did in the OG.
-The omnitrix designs are actually pretty cool and the reasoning behind each design goes hard (in my honest opinion)
-The different alien upgrades not only look cool but give the aliens amazing abilities
-Also I agree with the Kevin points

This episode was a lot different from your other episodes of It's Just a Cartoon!, which isn't a bad thing. When you first teased this episode at the end of the FU Bendy episode, I thought this was just going to be covering an episode of the original Ben 10, but instead, you compared the first episodes of both the original series and the reboot and how they introduced the characters and the story. I'd like to see you do something like this with other rebooted cartoons, but I also can't wait to see what you do for the next episode of It's Just a Cartoon! (even though, does this really still count as an episode of IJAC?).

- The entirety of Alien X-tinction
- The idea of Reboot was originally going to be an anime style series.

I'll admit, the reboot does some things worse than the original series, but it also gives us a few new things as well.
- A few new aliens for Ben (Overflow [or basically Water Hazard], Shock Rock, and Slapback)
- Some new functions of the Omnitrix (Omni-Enhancement, Omni-Kix, Omni-Naut)
- They even recycled the idea of Kevin's Antitrix, which was a concept scrapped from the original series.
Also ngl, they played Vilgax well, UAF Vilgax wasnt tha same as his old self but he still was a nice antagonist but he felt off, and ominverse for me just watered vilgax down and he realy was un-intresting, the reboot took him in a diferent way with a diferent lore that actualy worked well for the reboot and i still like classic vilgax the best but the reboot one is definetly on the second place for me due to him being more intresting of a character instead of just a power hungry guy that hates Ben kinda like how UAF vilgax was

ben 10 was originally good, but literally every show now became a gravity falls in art style and fucked off from the good art style that it used to have, like literally omniverse was the most stylish out of the series yet they went to "reboot" which I like to call downgrading the animation and art style to make ben 10 trash, yes the show is for kids, but it could've been a better kids' show cuz even my younger brother hated the show, like bro!

Okay I need to admit... I love it. Season 1 was a bit of a chore. At least Ben isn't overly obnoxious and neither is Gwen. I think it's better then other reboots, but I like the original more.

6:10 you say that Ben and Gwen should've asked Max for knowledge on the creature because he's a plumber, but how would the kids know this? They didn't even know that in classic until Max told them at the end of season 1. Also unlike classic, there's no implications that Max is a plumber in this continuity either. At least not at this point in the series.
It's true that they probably shouldn't have skipped the origin story, however as kids continue to watch the show they will begin to understand how the omnitrix works. They probably would even get an idea just from this episode alone. Also we do see how Ben got the omnitrix later on in the show.
In the Reboot, Kevin is still a neglected kid, he had an abusive father.

It's amazing Matt how resistant your parents were to cable until DTV really became a thing only two years later. I also know though unfortunate you started watching Ben 10 on Cartoon Network at a time I had already stopped regularly watching my favorite shows on that channel as well as for Nickelodeon. But this may also explain how you know about the show Arthur so well and are obviously qualified to speak on his annoying little sister DW.
I'm a New Jersey guy obviously in the NYC area even though I was fortunate to already have cable in the early 90's. But if you grew up in the black-and-white era and those TVs were still around at the time, the only channels I remember that usually worked around my way were 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13. I'm positive for many of you elsewhere in America some of your main broadcast channels had higher numbers.

Silly gimmicks and catchphrases like Ben-tuition They can be annoying but as far as the actual season finales of Ben 10 reboot goes, They were all pretty damn good. The Fulmini invasion in S2 as well as Kevin and forever night working together in season 3 and 4 were pretty interesting. I quite enjoyed the movie Ben 10 versus the Universe as well, It was a different take on secret of the Omnitrix. as far as art style animation goes, I can understand that there are people who doesn't like art style of reboot but the actual animation is really smooth In fact they even use some anime-esque animation movement during one of the fights on the train which rarely get to see in a kids animated show on cartoon Network of all places where the camera constantly moving as the action is going on. There's RUclipsr who made a video on it. Overall reboot obviously not better than the original show but then again Duncan rouleau said "They wanted to introduce the show to younger audience with comedy" in one of his interviews and it succeeded. It ran from 2016 till 2021 Which is longer than any individual than 10 Ben show, different people have different taste but it's nowhere near as worse as people made it out to be. I watched all Ben 10 shows growing up as well as their movies and I'd be fully honest, I enjoyed Reboot it was fun and light heated ❤️

Personally, the classic series is, in fact, better, but i don't think it's fair to judge them on the first episode, especially since I've heard the reboot gets better by season 3 and has a lot of plot points they can expand on in the future but i will say the classic series to me almost does everything the reboot does better the one thing i like is all the features the reboot ben has like he's able to add new aliens to his omnitrix for example
