AGGRESSIVE REDFISH BITE | Right Before the Freeze - Galveston East Bay
Redfish Rodeo Before the Freeze - Galveston East Bay:
Today was one of my best days of catching redfish on artificial. Missed a lot of footage because the bite was so aggressive today.
I started out targeting trout, but saw a school of redfish in a cut, off a canal that I like to fish. It was a feeding frenzy for about an hour. They were hitting the jig as soon as it hit the water. Lost a lot more than I caught, but managed to land three bull reds, 2 slot reds, and 12 under-slot reds between 15"-19". Caught about half during the 1st hour of fishing, drifted down the canal and landed one more, and then returned to the same spot about an hour later and caught the other half. There is a deep pocket off the canal that I found 2 weeks ago when the tide was real low, so I positioned the boat at the entrance to box them in. It was like fishing a stocked pond after that.
Landing a big bull red on light tackle was a goal I had for 2024 and I landed 3 this morning.
Had to get out before the tide boxed me in as well. Left them biting.
Tips/Tactics:
Used a slow retrieve while lightly bouncing the jig off the bottom. Ran into a school of reds early in the morning and they were hitting the lure as soon as it hit the water. There is a spot where I can kind of box them in using the boat, so it was almost like fishing a stocked pond.
