Cinematography, editing, commentary, soundtrack and photographs. They’re all perfect and add up to a sublime road movie in weekly instalments. And the next episode looks ridiculously out of this world. Thanks Joe.
Thanks mate, great to hear you are enjoying it. yes the places in the next episode are hard to describe and the camera on the bike doesn't do it justice, it is really one of those places you have to see with your own eyes.
Thanks mate, I've been saving up for a new tent (you'll see in a later episode why) so can finally get it. How's the camper? I tried to call a few times but haven't been able to get you.

Thanks for the tip mate. I am taking the water coming in through the top of the boots as all part of the adventure this time, I'll come up with a plan for the next journey.

Joe, the little Cubby House accommodation reminds me of the Queensland outback dongers when I was there. But yours may have been smaller. 🤣 That was cool getting to ride on the beaches. Wet Boots! Yuk! Hoping you find a solution to make your ride more pleasurable. Thanks for sharing your motorcycle adventures. 👍😁
yes it was pretty small but did the job, I bet your donger did't have flying sources painted on the outside 🤣🤣🤣. Yes the beach was cool, I tried to be respectful and not rip up the beach. I think wet boots are just part of the adventure. I am sure they be wet a few more times before the end of the trip. I'll work on a solution for the next adventure.
Joe Thanx for another awesome episode mate. Your photography and the scenery are beautiful mate. Oh and I love your simplicity when it comes to meals LOL. I can't handle mucking about cooking either when there is so much else to see and do. Looking forward to your next episode bud. 👍🍻
Thanks mate, great to hear you are enjoying the series. I had 23kg I could take on the plane so extra gear to cook and wash would have taken me well over that. And yes like you said there is so much to explore and do, so keeping things simple around food helps. I also have to deal with downloading footage etc which take a lot of time every evening.
Yep.. Sorting out your footage and then putting an episode together and uploading it to youtube on the road must have it's challenges bud. But I know one thing. Your living my dream mate. Hopfully one day I'll get back on a bike and travel. Just the coin that's putting things on hold at the moment lol. Stay safe out there mate. 👍
Really!! Woolworths tinned pears, hardly the meal of a champion explorer but I guess it got you by. That accommodation was certainly minimal but it had everything you needed. I just hope it was cheap. Take care and stay safe.
Well they were yummy 😂😂😂. Not having a big budget won't stop me from exploring and going on these adventures, if I have to eat tin food and free camp the whole trip so be it, I am just stoked I get to be able to do it at all.
@@freewayproject Being an older and more fragile human, I am just stunned by your ability to survive on such bare minimum. I am sure there are plenty of places in the world where life is really tough but it is not south east Queensland. I truly enjoy your presentation on the videos, well done. I am going for an overnight ride and the motel I picked is across the road from a KFC. That is roughing it for me.

Another epic video! So good to see my old stomping groumd sfter all these years. i really need to do a tour back home myself. The next video is gonna be a ripper if this one is anything to go by, youre heading into one of the best places in nz.
I’ve been following Itchy boots for years now and your channel is equally as good as hers. I did this route last summer with my brother and the scenic roads are unbelievable beautiful. Enjoying your videos so much,Thank you for sharing your experience, how wonderful ✨⚔️
Thanks Geoff, great to hear you are enjoying the series. As you would know then after riding through here, how hard it is to describe to someone else how amazing these places are.
The Caitlin's is a beautiful region in the South Island. Some lovely waterfalls to discover down there too (for those with an extended itinerary). And the Cathedral Caves there are worth a look at low tide also.
Well another place i'lll have to add to the next trip I do here, I have miss so many things, but the best excuse to do it all again. I hope you are still enjoying the series.
Glad you got to see you got to Dunedin, the Moeraki Boulders, and to Bluff. Would have liked to see you try Baldwin Street in Dunedin on the Scram - the incline is 19° or 35%. The Moeraki Boulders are pretty in good light. There are waterfalls in the Catlins area not far from there. Also, +1 for Cathedral Caves - just don't risk it on a rising tide with a storm surge. The chain sculpture at Bluff connects thematically to another on Stewart Island / Rakiura - shame you didn't get there, the place needs more publicity.
Yes I was definitely there at the wrong time of day for the best light. I am definitely missing so many good spotted to check out, oh well it looks like I'll just have to come again,. I say signs to the Cathedral Caves, another spot to get on the next ride around the island .
Hey mate. Yet another very enjoyable episode. There's so many aspects of your delivery that I love. Too many to list so I'll just say thanks again and an awesome job. Some advice. Invest in some taller ADV boots. I cringed watching you pull on those soggy boots..😬 Love the "stills". 👌
Thanks mate, great to hear you are still enjoying the series. Right now it would have been get new boot or go to NZ, (easy choice), hence the reason I am free camping most nights and eating tin food. When I can save up and afford some new boots I will, but I never want lack of gear to stop me exploring, wet feet is a small price to pay for this epic adventure.
Cheers Joe. Although I've ridden the South Island regularly, you've given me ideas for the future. Wish I'd known you were in NZ, would have offered you a place to stay in Taupo. Regards
There are so many options, I know I am missing so many spots, it just means I'll have to come back and do another lap. Thanks for the offer, maybe on the next trip. I have been to Taupo before, back in the day I was a professional athlete and did the Ironman. I would like to do the 100km Ultra Trail run that is near there, but I would have to get a lot fitter again as right now I am not sure I would make 10km 😂😂😂
@@freewayproject That, That's the place....was born in a little place called Dunstaffnage....east end best for beach riding, although now a lot of restrictions....tourists have taken over much of it.
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it, yes coming for a place where it is sunny 90% of the time so we don't ride when it's wet, I lack a lot of gear that would be a big help, I'll have to look into it.
Hi Joe you can buy waterproof Dunlop ' over boots ' you unzip & slip your boots into. Totally waterproof & about $40 . Luv every trip you do. Cheers to you mate .you'll never die from stress 😅
Thanks for the tip mate. I'll look into it. This trip I am taking the wet feet as the price I have to pay for having so much fun. I'll work on a solution for the next journey.
Nice video, you are in my part of the world now and I am loving the coverage - makes me a little home sick. Pronunciation of the place names needs some work, but no biggie. I would have moved camp for sure, those Macrocarpa trees are awesome. You will see some rain if doing the West Coast for sure, you have only had a few "sun showers' so far. Enjoy,
Thanks mate, great to hear you are enjoying it. I wasn't sure the little bridge would handle the weight of the bike. The rain is all part of the adventure, and yes I am surprise I have had no heavy rain as yet, as you say just sun showers.. Yes I do struggle with the names, I am dyslexic so joining the letters with the right sounds I struggle with especially when they are new words I have never come across before.
Heavens Joe, you missed the most amazing thing in Invercargil - the hardware store is also a motorcycle museum with collections of very weird mechanical devices. The real museum also has the original Indian motorbike that a local legend Bert Munro made his world speed records on (over 300kph). See the film The World’s Fastest Indian for the detailed story. An important part of motorbike history!
there is another reason for me to come back, I know i am missing so many incredible place, so definitely coming back for another lap. I watch the film in 2005, loved it.
Another beauty cheers mate, I had an idea for your wet boots ,why dont you get one of those little rolls of cling wrap then if you are going to go through river crossings you can pull over and wrap your boots in that.i think that would be a cheap and easy fix.till next Friday at 3 pm catch ya later mate.
Fantastic video, fantastic pictures. Are you travelling with 600mm lens? The way you zoomed in on the first picture in the distance, you must be carrying a big heavy lens. Keep going mate and eat some serious food, not from the tin. It won't sustain you for long. We need you well fed and healthy so that we can enjoy your videos.
Thanks mate, great to hear you are enjoying the series. I am traveling with a 200mm with a 2x on it so 400mm. I do have a 600mm but that is way to big to carry on a motorbike where space is limited. It's surprising how little food you actually need. There will probably be around 12 more episode to come in this series.
I am taking the water coming in through the top of the boots as all part of the adventure. I don't have the funds to get new boot yet (just enough funds to get around the island) so I'll work on a solution for the next journey. The same with the food and why I manly free camp, keeping expense low means I can afford to be out here exploring this amazing place, I find them very small sacrifices to be able to experience all this. I hope you are enjoying the series.
Hey there Joe, outstanding ride in that country, first off been following u for awhile now, but maybe it’s my imagination but has this travel through New Zealand been posted before, maybe I’m getting old but I do remember asking you about that tiny cabin you stayed in, maybe it was another biker, anyway regardless love seeing your travels and can never get enough of them for sure, stay safe my brother. Rob U.S.
Thanks Rob, it great to hear you are still enjoying the series, there will roughly be another 12 episodes to come in this one. No I have not posted this one before, probably someone else stayed there are they are idea for a quick stop to get things sorted again.
Bloody ripper mate. Your tips from Skytrek helped me out. Did it a couple of days ago. I had to stop to help a mate on a "hill". Never got going again as it descended into chaos.😆....
Oh awesome your rode Skytrek, did you do the last section? is that where you're mate got stuck? Well what's the saying, it not an adventure until something goes wrong.
Amazing spot. My mate came to greif on the Flintstones hill a few times ,then burnt the clutch. I went back for help and he was retrieved on night fall. I had a great ride..... 😆
Really enjoying your NZ adventure. Hopefully I'll be going next year (campervan!) Won't be be going up those rough tracks! The views are amazing! One thing keeps catching my eye, why have you got a sticker with 72 on your mirror?
Thanks mate, it's great to hear you are enjoying the series. Royal Enfield gave me the bike to ride so I'll be giving it back at the end, the sticker was on it when I got it and as it is not mine I want to give it back in the same condition as I got it, sticker and all.
Hay always look forward to your vids “ especially NZ “ I noticed when you packed up ( not sure 🤔 why I didn’t notice in other vids of yours ) Your soft panniers are the same as mine I think 🤔 Enduristan ? , yours look like the large ? I only got the medium. They do work well on my 300 Rally . Have fun mate ! I’m heading up to Cairns on Tuesday from Wodonga. Driving up with bike in trailer “ and two dogs in the car “ 😂, staying up their for the winter 🥶. If you are up that way during winter look me up. I’m actually will be on the tablelands- Tolga .
thanks mate, great to hear you are enjoying the series. They bags are very similar but mine are the Rhinowalk 48L ones (I think they are a copy of the Enduristan one) I am sure the Enduistan ones are way better quality but they were out of my budget they were $550AUD where as the Rhinowalk were $160AUD. Have fun in up in Cairns, its the best time of year up there.
This is getting ridiculous. Can you please create an e-book for sale on you site. Topics to cover: Trip planning, motorcycle gear, camping gear, camera gear, finding campsites, permits, food, drinks. I'm sure you'd sell a few.
Thanks for the tip mate. It not cold just wet haha. i am taking it as just part of the adventure (the price to pay for having so much fun) I am sure it won't be the last time I get wet feet on this ride.. I'll work on a solution for the next journey
Another great episode Joe. Sorry I’m late commenting. I did watch this episode several times on the TV, looks so good in 55” HD/4K, but I’m not logged into my account on that device. Congratulations on another 1000+ subs since last week, it’s picking up at some pace! I just wanted to ask about how you edit your videos and what software you use? I used to use Windows Moviemaker (because it was free and already on the computer), but recently got a MacBook and trying to decide on what to use. Also, what file type do you save your videos in? I do have a YT channel but I haven’t done anything for quite a while and I’d like to start filming and vlogging again. Cheers buddy, all the best, Richard in UK!
Thanks mate, glad you are enjoying this series. I have always been on Mac so I use Final Cut Pro (FCP), the two other main ones used are davinci resolve and adobe premiere pro. I think there is a few copy of Davinci it doesn't have all the features but for this kind of stuff would be fine. I have head it is good. adobe premiere pro is expensive and well over bloated with feature that you'll probably never use and it runs a lot slower than the other 2. Final Cut Pro runs the fastest the bonus of the hardware and software being created by the same company. they probably still have iMovie which is a basic version of Final Cut Pro it might come free (I am not sure). I have edit feature documentaries with FCP it has everything you'll ever need. They User interface is a lot more intuitive than some of the others. But basically pick one and learn it (youtube will help) they all do the same job. Once the video is edited I used Compressor (apple) to explore the file, It has a setting called RUclips 4K which explores the file as a .mov I hope that helps.
The whole of New Zealand looks very vibrant. That Scram leans at a precarious angle, hope it was down wind from the tent. Are you missing your Himalayan, or are the Scram and Himmy more or less very similar?
Yes New Zealand is a stunning place and in the autumn light. When the bike is next to the tent I always have it far enough away from the tent so if it does fall it won't fall on me. I hope you are enjoying the series.
It seem to be around the mountains a more. It' doesn't really feel like it has rained that much until I look back at the episodes. yes definitely worth it and none of it has been heavy rain.
Thanks Sam, It's great to hear you are enjoying the series. I have the 48L panniers. I can't fault them they do exactly what they should. I am not sure what more other brands that have pannier setups at $1800 can provide that would be more or needed, I am sure the other brands are awesome, it's just the Rhinowalk do everything I need from them.
I do have a video on the gear I use including camera gear on the channel. But basically a Osmo Action for the on bike shots, a Sony A7SIII for film everything else, I only have space for 2 lenses Sony GM 24mm 1.4 and a Sony GM 70 - 200mm 2.8 and a Mavic Drone, photos are taken with a old Sony A7RIII from 2017
Really, that would have been epic. The music is from a licensed music website, if the music isn't licensed then RUclips removes all the audio from the video (they have a program that scans each video and checks it against a database of all music. Finding decent music it one of the most time consuming painful things to do 😂
That program would be very useful for charging a couple of cents for royalties. Them musicians could earn money (albeit stuff all) from streaming sites.
Noooo. You didn't go and check out Burt Munro's Indian at Invercargill. Next time👍. I never realised that your pants had armour in them. What brand are they mate?. The road next to the beach reminds me of Penguin Rd in Tassie.
Yes I'll definitely have to come back to NZ, I know there is so much I am missing on this one. yes similar kind of vibe riding from Ulverstone to Penguin. The pants brand is John Doe the style is Stroker (they are a German brand so I don't think they got the second meaning of stroker 😂😂😂). They are also kevlar lined.
In and around the cities the roads are busy, but where I seem to explore I guess most people aren't interested in going there. Once I get on the dirt roads and tracks I rarely see anyone. in New Zealand.
I meet the fly fisherman in episode 2 and the farmer in episode 4, but so far no one else, most places I go there is no one around. But soon I should be meeting up with some one.
Have been looking forward to this all week and never disappointed. Thanks Joe. NZ Tourism Board should be paying you for this.

Hi I am really enjoying the videos and look forward to the next one it is amazing place to ride thank you for sharing
Thanks Andy, great to hear you are enjoying the series. Yes the place in the next episode was stunning.
Another epic video! So good to see my old stomping groumd sfter all these years. i really need to do a tour back home myself. The next video is gonna be a ripper if this one is anything to go by, youre heading into one of the best places in nz.
thanks mate great to hear you enjoyed the episode, yes the next area I explore is truly breathtaking.
Living the dream there Joe!!
riding through some of these places it does feel a bit like a dream. I hope you are enjoying the series.
The Caitlin's is a beautiful region in the South Island. Some lovely waterfalls to discover down there too (for those with an extended itinerary). And the Cathedral Caves there are worth a look at low tide also.
I did see the sign to the Cathedral Caves, I'll have to add it to the list for the next trip.
500m north of Hampden Stores @5:21 is the best fish and chip shop in NZ. We will always call in for their Blue Cod when we go that far south.
Anthony
Well another place i'lll have to add to the next trip I do here, I have miss so many things, but the best excuse to do it all again. I hope you are still enjoying the series.
Great ride. Thanks Joe...
thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it.
I cringed watching you pull on those soggy boots..😬
Love the "stills".
💯 mate. If your decision was mine, I'd selfishly have to choose my entertainment over your comfort. Thanks again.
I like to drive the beach and roads close to them in my home province of Prince Edward Island. Great content as always. Garth
Thanks Garth, great to hear you enjoyed it. Do you mean Prince Edward Island in Canada? I google it, looks amazing there.
@@freewayproject That,
That's the place....was born in a little place called Dunstaffnage....east end best for beach riding, although now a lot of restrictions....tourists have taken over much of it.
@@retiredwaterdoctor it's amazing and I saw there was a road called New Zealand road on there haha.
@@freewayproject and now not far from my Nova Scotia home is a place called Queensland....popular beech also.
@@retiredwaterdoctor Yes I am on the border of Queensland and New South Wales.
Inspiring as always!
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it.
Wonderful video!
thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it.
great stuff joe u r gonna have to get yourself some water proof socks mate:}
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it, yes coming for a place where it is sunny 90% of the time so we don't ride when it's wet, I lack a lot of gear that would be a big help, I'll have to look into it.
Two cool, unmentioned images: the car at 10:46 and the giant kelp at 13:50. Love those end shots!
It's great to know that someone see the cool stuff I put in.
Thanks 🙏 your amazing ❤❤
thank you for the support Selphine, it is greatly appreciated and will help the next journey. Thanks for watching.
Hi Joe, I forgot to mention those ' overboots ' fold almost as flat as a pair of thongs. & are available in bike shops.- pete
Nicely done
Thanks mate, hope you enjoyed it.
@@freewayproject I struggle with the words, and I was born there, don't stress - just teasing you !!!!
great watch with my morning cuppa Joe
Great to hear you are enjoying the series Mark
Choice find😄
Thanks mate, I hope you enjoy the series.
Cool vid m8.
Did a camp and some day riding down those ways last month. 😊
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed the episode, yer it's a great place to explore.
Another beauty cheers mate, I had an idea for your wet boots ,why dont you get one of those little rolls of cling wrap then if you are going to go through river crossings you can pull over and wrap your boots in that.i think that would be a cheap and easy fix.till next Friday at 3 pm catch ya later mate.
that's a creative simple solution. thanks mate. Great to hear you enjoyed it.
I thought you would have got some waterproof boots by now Joe There are things called Gaters that fit over the top. You dont get much to eat too.
No I have not posted this one before, probably someone else stayed there are they are idea for a quick stop to get things sorted again.
howay man, another video another adventure
hey mate, yes where ever I got here there is so much to explore, an incredible place to ride and roam.
Hopefully I'll be going next year (campervan!)
Won't be be going up those rough tracks!
Ah Joe you tricked me.....and here I was thinking TUNA for tea.... another awesome episode...thanks for sharing mate.
Occasionally I will mix it up 😂😂😂. Thanks for the continued support, great to hear you enjoyed it.
Yup, I was 100% sure it would be tuna!
@@pippacarron1861 😂
This is getting ridiculous. Can you please create an e-book for sale on you site. Topics to cover: Trip planning, motorcycle gear, camping gear, camera gear, finding campsites, permits, food, drinks. I'm sure you'd sell a few.
I would pre order one.
Just how to find camp sites like he does would be worth it
I will have to look into it and see what I can do. Thanks for your interest. I hope you are enjoying the series.
Thanks for the thought.
thanks I'll see what I can do.
Neoprene socks could help with the wet boot, at least they’ll keep the feet warm
Thanks for the tip mate. It not cold just wet haha. i am taking it as just part of the adventure (the price to pay for having so much fun) I am sure it won't be the last time I get wet feet on this ride.. I'll work on a solution for the next journey
Thanks!
As always thank you for the continued support Larry.
Once the video is edited I used Compressor (apple) to explore the file, It has a setting called RUclips 4K which explores the file as a .mov
I hope that helps.
Hi Joe. It sure seems to rain a lot in N.Z.!! Worth it, though!!
Not on the east coast sadly it's may and we are still in drought, hardly rained since xmas.
It seem to be around the mountains a more. It' doesn't really feel like it has rained that much until I look back at the episodes. yes definitely worth it and none of it has been heavy rain.
Yes it seem the centre of the island has had a little but the east coast is tinder dry.
Great series, loving it!
How do you find the rhino walk panniers? What size did you have?
Thanks Sam, It's great to hear you are enjoying the series. I have the 48L panniers. I can't fault them they do exactly what they should. I am not sure what more other brands that have pannier setups at $1800 can provide that would be more or needed, I am sure the other brands are awesome, it's just the Rhinowalk do everything I need from them.
You have a good choice of scenery, but you could keep some of the views a little longer. Nice, comfortable filming though!
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the episode.
hey man, love your work. what is your shooting gear like in the wilderness!!!
I do have a video on the gear I use including camera gear on the channel. But basically a Osmo Action for the on bike shots, a Sony A7SIII for film everything else, I only have space for 2 lenses Sony GM 24mm 1.4 and a Sony GM 70 - 200mm 2.8 and a Mavic Drone, photos are taken with a old Sony A7RIII from 2017
Thanks
Thanks you for the support it is greatly appreciated and will go toward the next journey. I hope you like the rest of the series.
Joe! last time I was at that lighthouse I saw an Orca!
Who plays these songs on your intro and outro? Great sounds, very capturing with the video.
@@dylantaylor9707 yes the musician get paid which is how it should be.
@@freewayproject Cheers Joe.
Yeah, it sounds like they lost something in the translation along the way😂.
one thing i don't understand , you're running wild, so how do you editing videos, i meant, the laptop can't hold long time to ran out of power
The episode take me a long time to edit, so I do the first ones while riding but as they take me so long I edit the last few when I get back home.
How are the roads so empty😮 can't imagine
In and around the cities the roads are busy, but where I seem to explore I guess most people aren't interested in going there. Once I get on the dirt roads and tracks I rarely see anyone. in New Zealand.
KAABEER. ::- ALMIGHTY. -:-. GOD. ::- ❤
I hope you enjoyed it.
No bluff oysters?
I bit out of my budget on this trip, I had to stay with the tin tuna. I hope you enjoyed the episode.
Mate, do you ever meet and talk to anybody?
I meet the fly fisherman in episode 2 and the farmer in episode 4, but so far no one else, most places I go there is no one around. But soon I should be meeting up with some one.
Thanks
hey Marty, thank you as always.
Thanks
The next episode is a good one, stunning and well.....you may laugh
Thanks
Thanks mate.
