Uncle Albert & Grandad were similar men (They were brothers:-)& thats why the comedy worked. They both did silly things to annoy Del & Rodney & were cut from the same cloth.
Uncle Alberts best line… He was in court and the prosecution says “ it says here you said you were overseas during the war but you actually served in the Isle of White.I’d hardly call that overseas” Alberts says Yeah well you wanna try walking it mate” 😂😂😂
My dad's favourite line is " Cold? You bits of kids don't know the meaning of the word. You should of been with me on the Russian convoys... One night it was so cold the flame on my lighter froze " 😂😂😂😂
Or Hypocrisy? Roland is basically treating Uncle Albert's war stories in the same way Del and Rodney did when he was alive. At least he's being honest. I think OFAH had some amazing poignant moments, but I personally think this one misses the mark.
@@MrBam79 I think contextually (and probably this was in the mind of John Sullivan when he wrote it) was the whole 'entitlement/privilege of family' thing........where if you are close to someone, then YOU can critiicise them but if anyone else trys to then you'll rip their heads off. Very similar to the 'protective' approach a lot of women adopt with their husbands or boyfriends.
@@andycross9840 Yeah, I can see that. I can also recognise that Del and Rodney are likely experiencing a bit of "you don't know what you've got till it's gone" and would gladly sit through all of Albert's war stories just to have him back. There's probably nothing wrong with the general psychology of the scene, but I think it's just the way it's played that doesn't sit well with me. There's a self righteousness that comes across from Del and Rodney, and combined with Del's hostility, it all strikes me as rather unfair. Also, the fact that Roland is deliberately portrayed as being quite obnoxious makes the whole thing seem a bit contrived. And that annoying little turd Damien chipping in really doesn't help either, lol.
World war 2 is my favourite history subject, I can never ever express my gratitude to those who fought for us enough. This scene is my fav comedy and I'm glad this scene was apart of it! And Buster Merryfield was a real war hero too which makes this scene all the more special!
Sadly, Albert and Mike both unknowingly had their last scenes in ‘Time on our Hands’. Mike in the pub, and Albert back in the empty flat. Both actors died soon after. 🥲🥲
Donald Trump. Didn’t he call Mcain a loser for getting caught in the Vietnam war? this was after Mcain was diagnosed with a brain tumour. And people still support this idiot.
WW2 was all about doing your bit. Whether you were on the front line or just going without at home... Everyone, service person or civilian alike pitched in.
Boycie wasn’t bothered at Grandad’s funeral. He laughed inappropriately in front of the vicar, when Mike said that the sonic burglar that Del Boy had sold him was stolen in The Nag’s Head Pub. Boycie was enjoying Del and Rodney’s misery at Grandad’s funeral. All the cast members were older at Uncle Albert’s funeral in ‘If They Could See Us Now’.
Excerpt from a time when this country could make the best comedy in the world! Now we dare not say anything for fear of offending someone who wants to be offended 😟
You know there was a time when you couldn't show a married couple in the same bed? Or a singer shaking his hips? Or a toilet being flushed? Or (gasp) an inter-racial kiss? ...without people losing their shit??? Yeah? People have short memories. People have always been "snowflakes" over some shit or other. Take off those rose-tinted glasses.

Love how rodney knows how del feels about family and gets in his way to stop him from hitting Roland
We've all been there 😂 that's why they are classic! It's real isn't 😁.

Del Boy is the ultimate British icon. 🫡🇬🇧
Raquel grabs Del's arm, Rodney steps in front to block him...they both knew how Del would react
Rodney stepping up. Class.
The series was a classic and pretty much perfect, but the laughter in this scene just felt so unnecessary
Would have been so good to see Rodney step in to hold Del back only to knock Roland out himself.
