Haven’t read through all the comments so forgive me if this is redundant, but I recently took a Crazy Quilt class which used 9 fat quarters that was similar to this, but there were 9 pieces cut from each fat quarter. The trick to making sure each block you put together from the cut pieces are different from each other is to move pieces from each stack to the bottom of that same stack corresponding to the number of that stack. Meaning take one piece from the top of stack 1 and move it to the bottom of stack 1, take two pieces from the top of stack 2 and move them to the bottom of stack 2, take three pieces from the top of stack 3 and move them to the bottom of stack 3, take four pieces from the top of stack 4 and move them to the bottom of stack 4. It continued for the 9 stacks, but in this case the fifth stack would stay as is. Now all the pieces showing are different. Just grab the top piece from each stack and sew to make the new block. Each stack will have a different piece uncovered as each block is sewn. This is a great pattern and can’t wait to make one using just 5 pieces! Thanks for sharing!
Seems jumbling around is much more difficult, adjusting each stack at the beginning takes so little time and ensures each piece in the block is different.
Awesome lesson Miss Penny ! I am getting the fever to start making a quilt again ! I'll be checking out your online store for goodies as well. Thank you and Blessings !
I also made one with skinny black strips between each section~~~I did one side sewing pieces together then I did the same on the other side! Yeah! My 2 quilt tops are beautiful!
absolutely love hearing the little ones having fun with each other in the background----brings back memories...... another quilt i'm going to have to add to my to do list, except i have the accuquilt cutter and die and will make it with those. this is a beautiful quilt.......thank you for your tutorial
When I made this pattern, I first take the first stack and I leave it, next stack I put top on bottom, next set I take first 2 and put on bottom, etc., etc.~~~then I star sewing the piles. Works pretty fast! Just sharing!❤
Seems to be a safe way to have total and immediate control of the pieces not ending up with sames beside each other. No worries. )))) Pure fun quilting. )))
This is both charming and beautiful. I absolutely love those fabrics. I wish I was there to steam press each block and row (with starch) for you so the quilt top will be perfection. All that work, to not steam iron it, drives me crazy to watch. I always iron as I sew garments or quilts. I really love what you created there. Very nice. Congratulations on another very special creation.
Thank you! I starch some as I go but this partial one doesn’t really need it. Of course, that’s a preference thing. It turned out perfect with or without starching it. 😁
This is a stack n slash method that was in a magazine about 25 years ago. We used fat quarters put them together with a quilt as you go method, using our machines fancy stitches for the quilting. Fun quilt and method of construction!
Love the colors and prints of thisRiley Blake fabric❣️❣️💓💓😍🪡🧵✂️📍Doesn’t matter how long I have kept fabric untouched either❣️❣️👌😂☺️😊🤭That is just how I roll Penny❣️❣️👍Fun quilt❣️❣️💓💓
Good tips for squaring up raw blocks ))) Make one corner square first, then trim to size. Easy. If your ruler matches the desired size, you can shuffle it around to cover the perfect view, and cut the leftovers. SO much easier than how I started "a hundred years ago". THANKS )))
Fabric addiction is WHY we quilt. Its a perfect excuse to have bins and bins of cloth )))) and still keep adding. Garden needs all day for right now but Fall is coming and Winter too, so fab time for sewing bits of cloth together eh? O yeah.... Collect now, sew later. hahahaha
That's exactly what I've been doing the last few months, since early May, here in S.E. Idaho as I began to need to use my creativity as part of my healing after losing my husband last Sept. During the cooler hours of the day or when there's a nice large area of shade, I work in my yard. While cooling down and putting my feet up, I've been shopping for fabric, floss, etc. online and watching tutorials. I'm gathering supplies for slow stitching, which is sort of similar to crazy quilting in that there's no definite pattern. But it's quite different in that the pieces are usually hand sew together and it's primarily a hand stitching sampler project for learning new-to-me embroidery stitches.
I’m so sorry to hear short your husband. I’ll be praying for you. Keeping busy is a good idea. I’ve never done slow stitching but love hand embroidery.
Love this idea! I have 3 projects in progress on my table right now so I must have the addiction now! My quilt top from craft-a-cropolis is almost all together finally but I’m working on making it bigger.
I just bought this last week I wanted to do a crazy quilt and I wanted to do it the easy way...I also got the 5 x 5 papers to do blocks.I also just ordered some 10x10 fabric squares...great video..so I am already to do a quilt..
You may enjoy doing some research on the original crazy quilts. They were made of beautiful velvets etc. and embellished with gorgeous embroidery. Definitely a labor of love done by the wealthy ladies I believe. I have a feeling Lori Holt had a version of these in mind.
Wouldn't it be easier to leave one stack alone; next stack place the top fabric to the bottom of the stack; next stack take the top 2 and move to the bottom; next stack take the top 3 to the bottom; and so on? Put them together by using the top fabric from each stack.
I live right outside of Tampa and we were so glad Debby went a little further west of us, but torrents of rain for almost 48 hrs straight made the ducks happy!😂
This was such a terrific video. There was nothing that was boring, all I did was learn more and more. I know you said the line was older but I have about half of the fabrics and I love them. I have held onto for years waiting until I found the perfect pattern, technique, whichever🤪. Can you please tell me what the name of that line is? Thank you❤️
My Mom would call that a "LAZY CRAZY QUILT." It will look like a real Crazy quilt. The more prints you use the better it will look. Are you going to do some fancy embroidery after you sew the pieces together? Don't forget to include at least one "Spiders Wed" (for good luck). Thank you. This is a wonderful idea. I love the fabrics you used.
You could even slice off an inch or so from top or/and bottom and attach to opposite ends OR square it and save cut off chunks and sew another oroject like we do for small scrappy bits.
There are different ways to do it. This paper is a template. Some people sew on the paper with other patterns. Different techniques. Find what you like and do it that way. 😁
Hi I've never made a quilt but am going to have go. One question why are the seams not pressed open, why are they pressed to one side? Also as an avid seam neatener when I sew normally why are the seams never zigzaged or overlocked in quilting?
Idid.t catch the name of the block but it looks like a fruit salad.i love it...snowball some corners and you would have marshmallows in your fruit salad
Usually 90x96 is the minimum for a king size. Sizes vary per individual likes. Based on that, I would say about 156. Mine was a throw and I had 42 squares.

Yes I’ve seen plenty. They are pretty too.
I did this more than 30 years ago with instructions from Eleanor Burns’ book CRAZY QUILTING
Love this idea, and when I clicked on your link where to get the papers with the pattern, I couldn’t believe it was so cheap❤
Beautiful

You can use some of the decorative stitches on your sewing machine and topstitch on the seams for an added bonus.
Yes you can
