I’ve always had several collector cars, including some really high end ones. For some reason though, I was always intrigued by the Beetle. I bought a ‘67 several years ago and barely drive anything else since. People just smile whenever it’s around. Luv my Beetle!
I agree, I know the earlier models are more sought after and expensive, but for me the super beetle is the one I knew growing up and it's just the best!

I had a 1973 super beetle with a 1600 dual port engine. It was a great car! Was really good in the snow and even off road. I could see why people turned them into Baja bugs. I had to learn how to check and adjust the valves pretty much every time I changed the oil. Once I got that down and learned how to maintain it, it was a very reliable car. I miss it!
It always amazes me that this car was in production for 65 years. Interesting to watch the factory films from the 40's, to this film, to the last of the aircooled ones built in Mexico (Building Last VW Bug in Mexico 2003). What a run.
Blew the engine in my bug, towed it to a bug specialist, had a new engine installed before I finished lunch.I really wish they still made them like that.
Coming up as a boy I got to experience 2 VW Beetles new. I was with my mother both times when she first, bought a dark blue 1969 model. Then, 5 years later with her when she bought a 1974 yellow one. 4 speeds, no radio, either one.
Learned to drive stick shift in a 1964 Bug. Bought a 1973 Super Beetle and later a used 1972 Bug. Enjoyed them all. Could not believe they were discontinued in the US. The water cooled ones were a poor comeback.
Not many cars can claim to have been in production so long - helped somewhat by the clever marketing of VW America. Still a fun car to drive, easy to fix and sublime curves. Own a T3 (T25) now but my love of VWs started here. :D

Single exhaust, 5MPH bumpers, head rests. These are probably some of the last VW Beetles destined for the US market in the late 1970's.
