Which is fine! I still think his current thumbs down is warranted - it's early days for this game and it needs a lot of systems completed before it has longetivity. Right now it's fun for some time but gets old after a while. Which is ok since it's not a finished game yet.

So sad that I gave this a down thumb, it's purely based on content vs price atm and am sure next time I review it with all the features it will be a thumb up as it's a cool fun game, just nowhere near enough content for £30

In development tutorials normally get made towards the end, once all the game systems are in place. (Development is all about iteration so doing it earlier leads to wasted effort as things change) However I think they should have provided something, even a decently put together document with appropriate images, or a 10 minute dev video walking through stuff.

    • @caldark2005
      @caldark2005 5 лет назад +2

Yeah its pointless doing full tutorials especially when core game elements can change during development.. would mean they have to re-do the tutorial with every major update. I think there are tutorials and guides available on their discord..

As an early backer of this (back in 2014) it runs amazing because they built a bespoke engine for this that is actually completely optimized for computers. They have their bespoke physics, lighting and render pipelines, and it is done flawlessly. The ability of going from space running an enemy through the atmosphere of a planet, rise and escape atmosphere again... it is amazing!
Edit: the financials are weird because they did develop a new game engine to create this game. And to be clear, this is the best space game engine around.

The engine Creator has been working on this title for forever and is a bit of a mathematical prodigy so it shouldn't suprise it's amazing technically. The fellow did design a procedural Galaxy generator that can remember the asteroid you mined five years ago half a galaxy away.

Smooth as silk at that, and the battles wow, just beautiful, the future for this game is gleaming and really coming from such a small but 'elite' dev team who did this it is VERY impressive! Also, would you mind doing Battlefront 2 again? Trust me its practically a completely different game since it came out. Loot boxes and p2w is completely gone, and also for example they added all the prequel heroes that were missing at launch and the also added the old conquest mode from the original bf2. There was also a pretty big update a couple days ago too and given that its changed so much since its awful launch I believe its earned a re review like No Mans Sky did. Thanks!

Im a week in - and once you get the hang of things its VERY addictive. Im at 60+ hours in the first week..... What it does need though is voice chat. Currently there is one channel per team, per server via Discord. that is good and it really makes the game when you work together. Eventually there will be proper in game chat, with different channels for different groups on the same team - commanders and wings for instance. I lost 4 hours this evening playing on the live stream. It was VERY close in the end. I took 3 others with me, 3 bombers and a corvette and we just went after ground installations and hauler. If we got jumped before we'd taken it out we just ran....Space Pirates we were and it was great fun....even though our team lost in the end (mind you all the devs were on the other team..). It does have issues - the tutorial as mentioned being the main one, and there is lots more to add, and different environments ill favour different ships and tactics. Im having fun which is what matters, and as I say - in on 63 hours in one week.... I think thats value already. Each to their own though. The devs have mentioned that a little down the line when some things have been added, and balanced there may be a free to play weekend. That will bring the space combat pilots flooding in.

I’m fine with pure PvP but it needs to be done well and with the complexity I’d get from a single player game.
Planetside 2 is a great example, because systemically planetside 1 was far superior, it was old but allowed for much better squad and strategic tactics.

Even with all the future features I doubt it will be anything than a niche. I also think it’s not so much content but gameplay that will be problematic. In a pure space shooter game you lack tactical depth due to missing level. It’s a constant rush and than spray and pray that doesn’t reward a variety of tactics. The major problem from the footage I have seen is that combat in general is up cloth, further reducing tactical options. And a higher tactical level for planing would be needed for a more deep battle gameplay.

Should have got a mixed rating. Like he said, good game likely to be great. Think it deserves better and needs to do a final review post final release

The game is a hell of a lot of fun.. but as with any game in early development only pick it up if you like testing games and helping the devs by reporting bugs and so on. If you are looking for a finished game and dont like the idea of testing then simply wait until its finished.

I'm sure you'll never see this, but you mentioned how well this runs for an alpha build, which is great, but from what I remember the requirements/recommended specs are pretty well up there. Obviously it's going to run great on your 2080, but did you bother testing it on the 1070? I'm wondering how it might run with my 2060.

AAA games are released full price but unfinished, so it wouldn't surprise me if they are trying that. At least this game seems polished.
With AI ships being present already, is it staying an MMO, or will there be single player later on? Might have to go research that.

Problem with early access is that you can buy a game, and they hardly update it from then on, for whatever reason, but sometimes the game never really gets finished.

You had my full attention, I was ready to purchase until I saw the price. I just can’t pay that much for early access whenit doesn’t have the best track record. I’ll keep my eye on it though.
