You guys bring me so much joy everything I watch your videos. I would love to meet you when I decide to visit the Ford presidential library in Grand Rapids!
That's so nice of you to say. Comments like those help to keep us motivated. We really appreciate it. The Ford presidential library in GR is fantastic. It's not a huge place but you could definitely spend hours there. He was a pretty interesting man! Are you planning a trip there soon?
As I watch this video I think (as I have watching many of your other videos) "why can't a tool company sponser your videos" so you can use the appropriate tool for the job tou are performing !
Well, we bought that drum sander deal ourselves but it was on sale at Harbor Freight and we definitely think we'll get some good use out of it! But, hey, if any tool companies ever wanted to sponsor us, we'd be all for it!
Sweet score of the new AC! That roof tar sucks! I had at least a 1/4 inch if that all over my roof. I opted to replace the roof skin, but that surface conditioner seemed to work ok. Looking forward to the next video!
Shew guys that was a lot of work!!! So glad seeing you starting on that sweet ‘ol gal, I bet she’s going to be a beauty when you’re done with her. For some reason it just looks like it’s got to have a lady’s name.🤗
It could use some tapered pieces of wood between the rafters and the roof metal. That would make it smoother, with a slope from the plywood in the center to the edges. It's what Holiday Rambler should have put in the roof.
I also have a tin roof. mine had tiny pinholes, we patched with Henry's roof tape and coated entire roof with Henry's roof coating. We have an 1981 Class C Tioga. We had to rebuild overhead so we used dicor and Eterna bond tape on all roof seams. It's been almost 5 years and still holding up great. Keep up the great work.
Nurse Ratchett (one Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest)!😊😊 Dang nab...or Fiddle faddle...I'd buy a t-shirt! Dicor isn't supposed to look neat! Just a big blobby mess!! Nice work as always! ❤😊
Well, if it's supposed to look like a big blobby mess, we nailed it 😆 We need to get some new shirts going soon. Thank you for watching and commenting!
You two make my wife and myself laugh the whole time, great Sense of humor you two. Fyi go back and put the sticky sealant tape under your air conditioner, you will thank yourselves down the road. Keep making the videos We love you guys 😍♥️🏆
I love your videos! You could make bleachers and have a studio audience! The way the two of you interact is priceless! I'm just on the other side of the state near Kalamazoo. Thanks for taking the time to make the videos.
I am so happy for you two having a shop now to work in and be out of the weather. The holiday rambler is coming along nicely. Always look forward to your next video. Love watching you work your magic in renovating the RV’s. You’re doing a great job.
I believe the silver coating is a mobile home coating with fibers. I used to have to do it about every three years to the summer trailer we had. Great score on the benches.
That silver stuff is the worst. Takes forever to stir up the aluminum powder from the bottom of the bucket, and after putting it on the roof it doesn't last. The aluminum is supposed to reflect UV light to protect the tar or whatever it's mixed into. Black tar or plastic coating, with or without fibers, goes bad just as quick. The white elastomeric coatings are much better stuff. Even better are the silicone coatings but they're the most expensive and require special prep and primers.
Retro Revivals to the rescue!! I love y'all for making this! My ac in the trailer I live in has decided to become a shower (filling up a 35 gal tote every other day). We just hit triple digits last week, so honestly it can be whatever else it wants long as it keeps the cold air blowing. (I know... sigh I know, I'm going to wish I'd of fixed it sooner... but it's soooo hot, I'll have to get it done in a single night. I've never done this before. How can I possibly do this ac roof repair WITHOUT MY FAVORITE SUPER AWESOME RETRO REVIVALS VIDEOS! Y'all rock! Thank you! Tifkat P.S. I can be done in a night... right???
Thank you and good luck! We had never done an AC before this one and it absolutely seems do-able in a night... The hardest part is getting it up on the roof and getting the old one down. Have a friend come help 😉
The little channel that could has gone right on ahead and done!! You know you've hit the big time when sponsors come looking for you to feature their merch!! Strong work on that guys!! Just a quick word about the dicor. It's self leveling, which means you literally glob it on and then let it level itself out. It takes some time to level, especially if it's cooler temps, but you don't have to mess with it at all. Just let it do it's thing. It also doesn't go that far. And yes Christy, it's pricey for what it is, but what isn't when it comes to these camper parts??!! I'm def not going to tell you how to do your rehab, but I would suggest you didn't use enough around the new vent. It should cover most of the silver frame, which will probably take about 2 tubes to get enough coverage. It should look very similar to how it did on the old one, just pretty and new. It's not used like caulk. It's meant to be a lap sealant. If it's not on thick enough, it's not going to do what it's meant to do. As usual, another very fun and entertaining vid from the MI folks!! Enjoy reality!!🤷♂
Thanks!! It's been a lot of hard work 😁. Good point about the lap sealant. I'll likely climb back up there and glob some more on. We'll keep working at it 😉.
You ought to try Henerys 100% silicone roof coating for coating the roofs of your old RVs. I used it on my old 33 yr old Tropical with a rubber roof that was failing. Worked great and so far 4 years now no leaks.
You need an old fashioned winch attached to a rafter above the camper, it would make it much easier to lift things up or lower them down! Would love a T-shirt….do you have v-neck ones?
We've considered some type of host / pulley system. Maybe for the next one 😉. No V necks yet. We'll try to add merchandise designs as we can. Thanks for the comment 😁
You should never use caulk on the AC gasket just the gasket is all you need just snug it down it actually has a torque spec which is surprisingly light
You know, it's funny... on the last one we bought from RecPro, the instructions said to use the sealant underneath. This one didn't say that but we used it anyway because there were holes around the hole and we didn't want to risk water getting into them and rotting around the AC. We keep learning! Thanks for the comment!
@@retrorevivals it's looking good! Can't wait to see it finished! I'm getting mine ready to take up to Glennie for the whole summer at my seasonal campsite
I'm no authority on these ac units but remember that George on Humble Road had a leak issue and because of that disagreed with the manufacturer's instructions.
What will you use to paint the sides of the camper? I am using a primer then what kind of paint should I use? I want to use the right stuff to last a long time. I have a 73 also but a 30ft. Thanks! Looking great!
We have an airless sprayer that I think we'll try. We'll also use primer and then go over that with an oil based paint. Plans can change but that's the way we're leaning 😁 Thanks for the comment!
What sort of online auction did you find those workbenches on? I have never thought to look for anything like that in my area down here in Florida, so I'm wondering if there was a site you used to find auctions close to you. TIA. Love watching you guys!
Hello! We have bought items from Repocast.com in the past and just happened to notice that their site has a like to their "Family of Companies" in the top corner --- these workbenches we bought off Orbitbid.com. I'm not sure if most of the family of companies is in Michigan though or if they're in other states.
Matthias Baldwin, a Philadelphia locomotive manufacturer invented the original ratchet strip in 1853. I realize this is life changing information, but you know. Haha!

It's going to be raining caulk? That is definitely what she said. So I'm immature! Sue me! Isn't Christie a great woman? She is letting you have all of the fun of the sanding on the roof , to yourself! There is not a selfish bone in her body!

We like their channel though so being compared to them is a compliment 😊

You can get a roll of white butyl rub roof replacement material, 12 ft. Wide @ Home Depot. It glues down after you seam seal😊. It's for mobile homes.

I think a couple of Harbor Freight Scaffolding might be a good purchase so you can work on the camper without having to climb up and down a ladder.

Hi. It depended on the setting... just fan or dehumidifier was around 350w. With the AC on, it was between 800-1000w.
Raining caulk...😅😅😅😅
