Great choice on sheet vinyl. Other flooring with seams will shift with the movement of road travel. Or depending where you live it will shift with freezing and moisture.
Happy belated birthday wishes Kelsey 🎉Your doing a great job on the walls, I love the fireplace. Christy I'm like you I buy my decorations way before I need them 😂 Your husband kills me I was gagging when he was working on the black water tank 😂 looking forward to the next installments
Awesome video love the build! I think the ceiling and floor would have been way easier without walls! Love all the projects! You guys are hilarious to watch and make anything seem fun funny somehow!
Thanks, Mike! We would have loved to have done the floor first but it wasn't in the cards. For the ceiling, we still need to run a bunch of wiring then close it up. That's up next!
The enclosure that encases your black tank up underneath that camper.Your best bet would be to remove that metal which is galvanized or the same stuff that heat ducks are made out of for your home and contact your local heating and cooling supplier with the dimensions with measurements and ask them to make you another one. It wouldn't be horribly expensive , but it would be very wise to do so. What i'm getting at is you can see the rust in the corners and sometimes that'll come from within that enclosure and between the tank itself and the walls of that galvanized metal. If you have one maid, you can take duraliner, which is used for truck beds and it just rolls on. You can coat the inside the part that would in case the black tank and then once you get it mounted underneath the trailer, you can coat the outside of it and the entire underneath of your trailer as well. That way, it will keep rot from forming if you happen to get caught in rain and it splashes up on the wood. Which the floors made out of. Just a suggestion.
I have a 1972 holiday travler. When I bought it there was no plumbing on the supply side, the drains were intact and the holding tank had been removed and a porcelain residential toilet was in the bathroom. I hired a plumber to rebuild the plumbing system, install a new water heater, and replace the toilet. After the supply was finished and the toilet was in it was time to turn on the water. Mr. Plumber asks, "ok, where your drain?" I point him to the capped drain line and let him uncap it! Lol! Actually, nothing happened when he uncapped it. I dont have a sewer connection in my yard where my camper is parked and I put a tarp down before I parked the trailer. I already bought a 10ft section of sewer hose to direct the water into the grass and not on the plastic tarp. My $20 camco hose from Walmart didn't fit. It uses a valterra fitting, my trailer has a thetford fitting. WONDERFUL! I was able to order an adapter but that didn't solve the problem immediately. I put a 5 gallon bucket under the drain line and the plumber flushed the toilet. There were chunks in the bucket. Old chunks! Lol! It was one of the nastiest things I'd ever seen. I had to dump that bucket in the woods about 10 times as we were checking the system for leaks. 🤢 At least the plumbing was good! Now I have the drain line adapted down to another hose and it drains into the grass. I only ever wash my hands in the trailer when I'm in there working on it and I did take a shower in the pink shower to see how long the hot water would last but I promise you that im not dumping sewage into my grass, my dog does enough of that for both of us!
The fun never ends with these! Ours is Thetford too. We bought a valterra valve that doesn't work with the tank so we'll try to salvage the old valve for now instead of shaking out like $80 for a new one. Sounds like you came up with a good solution and, as we learned, always plan for chunks!
Ya'll are the cutest! I love these videos because you make it up as you go and aren't afraid to try things. I was laughing so hard at the tank cap removal process! 🤣🤣
TS 05:18 After having gone through asbestos training at Dow Chemicle. The following tidbit may interest you. Asbestos is dangerous because the fibers are very brittle. They will continue to break into smaller and smaller particle down to the atom level. They are not soluable in water. SO, when inhaled, the small particles imbeb into lung tissue and stay there. Continualy irritating the tissue, eventually causing cancer. The latency period is like 25 years. Having said that. If a person were to coat an asbestos block with a substance like poly urathane. The asbestos is then trapped inside that spot. and is not harmful. Just something I remember fron 40 years ago. You guys are very cool!! Jack. Heights are harmless. The falling part is harmless. This video is precisely the reason why I stay fluffy. You see, if you're fluffy, you can't be expected to work underneath an old Holiday Rambler and work on the black tank! Yeah- that's why I'm fluffy! (Ahem) We also decided to do sheet vinyl in our RV because you just can't guarantee that the planks are going to stay put. I will say though, make sure whatever you are putting the sheet vinyl over is FLAT, that stuff will show any little imperfection underneath! We are very happy with the sheet vinyl we put into our old gal! Looking good!!!
Just a thought for your kitchen sink placement, perhaps put it along the opposite wall to the main entrance door, under the side window and nearer to the plumbing for the bathroom? It may make it more compact but open options like a hinged counter top or table. May open the entranceway and storage space for tubs when packing for a trip.
You guys make it look fun, and I know personally what hard work it is. Nice the kids help out too. Important they learn skills. Sitting here laughing at your black tank emptying!
Hey, congratulations on getting so much accomplished on this beauty. I can really see how well this will come together, and I can't wait to see more of the transformation. I did have a thought on the black tank replacement. I was a bit concerned that the original galvanized pan might have been there to protect the relatively soft plastic tank from road debris. Will you be replacing it with another shroud? Otherwise, I have to applaud you all for digging into the fifty year old poo to clear the tanks and pipes. You are much braver souls than myself lol.
Christy, I’ve been watching your vids when I have time. Colleen told me about them. For this episode you should have called on Mr. Geyer as he worked 47 years in the water and wastewater industry and has seen and smelled it all! You have such a nice family. Our grandson Sam is a freshman at MSU this year. Takes me back to your and Colleen’s days. 😊
Hi, Mrs. Geyer! @danddartgallery8834 -- thanks for the comment! I didn't know that was his line of work. I thought of you recently because we're considering doing epoxy countertops on this project. The stuff on your channel is so cool. I plan to watch for some pointers 😁 Those days at MSU were so fun. I hope Sam is doing well 💚
Christy... Make sure that the top/back of your electric fireplace has proper intake air-flow! The air-intake is on the top/rear (small grill) of the unit and appears to be covered by the "tight" wall framing. The heater blower pulls in cold air from the top/back and forces air over the heating elements and out the front/ top grill! Having proper air flow is necessary for the efficiently/functionality of the unit (similar to a house's cold air return). I have had internal electric fireplace parts/components fail from the excess heat after having inadequate air flow. I have built few of these into custom mantles. Just a helpful option... In the past I've accounted for air intake by cutting a vent hole above/below the insert to allow air to be drawn into the unit and used antique air vent covers to allow proper air flow ventilation (regular vent covers work... but, I like the added charm and character the repurposed cover can add... plus I could totally see you finding some vintage grill or creation that matches your design vibes). As far as I'm aware, all purchased fireplaces with the included cabinets/mantle/stands are boxy and open at the back of the cabinets to account for the air-flow of the electric inserts. Sorry the Deodorant didn't quiet down Harvey's Belt! lol BTW LOVE IT!
Thanks for another fun video - that Holiday Rambler looks surprisingly roomy inside, and your floor plan looks great! Will you flip any of your revivals in the future? Is there a good market for restored classics?
Thanks! We're going for rommy so hopefully it still feels open once everything is in. We're unsure about what we'll do with these down the road... Hopefully get some use out of them and then will probably have to sell some. There's a good chance we'll put more into them than we could get out though 😬
Could've had 1.5" extra width for the bed by stepping the walls onto the wheel housings like you did the one ahead of the fireplace. Where are you putting the grey water tank?
We're hoping we have just enough room for the mattress... It's the couch that may not really fit right. We're not planning for a gray tank at this point. We'll direct all water to the black tank. Thanks for watching!

I do have concerns about roll linoleum.Or vinyl...... No matter how good you feel that your floor is and how intact it may be.The bad thing about a solid piece for your flooring. Is that everything that is a seam?Or a joint or a screwhead shows through unless you properly put a skim coat sealer/filler on the floor. Believe it or not, after just one trip using vinyl products in an RV or camper.Or trailer all of the traveling and moving around that you do jostles the sub.Floor horribly and then it starts showing up almost instantaneously.
Ugh... Someone to consider for sure. We might go another direction but we're thinking we can do it without a seam which would be nice. That's still TBD!
@retrorevivals Lowe's and all the big box places sell 24 X 24 carpet tiles. They are extremely durable and there are a few in their selection. The squares are awesome. If you ruin on or get a real bad stain that soesn't come out, you peel it off and replace the bad one. They are really easy to use, and cut good with a sharp blade. Not to mention, it will maintain a good temp in the trailer. Trailers lose a lot of heat and cold a/C air through the floor. Like you said though TBD.
Oh boy, the black tank boggie. Can you really ever plan for chunks though? More important is having a container without cracks and holes, it would seem. Maybe it was just the angle from here that made it appear that way. Tough call on that one. Always good to have a spare black tank though when the old one can no longer contain the chunks. Hopefully you were able to grab some more cheese curds in the process!! It's a proven scientific fact that cheese curds make retro trailer revivals go way smoother.
Just gonna say it...what a great 55 minutes this was spending them watching y'all living your best lives. Well done!!
Thank you! Tyler actually got me Menards cheese curds for my birthday and I have you to thank for that 😂 If we have learned one thing so far, it's that you should always plan for chunks!
@ Cheese curds for your birthday completely qualifies for best birthday ever!!! Happy late birthday… minus the cheese curds.
Breaking news, Aldi sells garlic Cheddar cheese curds and they're good! Do you have Aldi out there?
@ Not yet, but there’s one being built!! Aldi is finally coming to southern AZ!! Can’t wait.
Why wouldn't you cut that from inside the camper????
The pipes? They weren't accessible from inside 😁
Please don’t waste all that space behind the TV/fireplace. Put it on a hidden wall that swings out and use the space behind for storage/a pantry 😊
Yes, for sure, we'll use a lot of that space!
Just replace the Black tank
That's the plan!
Oh man just swap out the whole thing
Yes, we'll use the replacement tank 👍🏼👍🏼
In Tyler's defense mistakes may have been made......
😂😂😂
Thank goodness the sheet part of the video is done🤢🤮
It was so bad. We considered not showing all that 😆 🤢
Oh my!! Gag gag! It was so gross but sorry I was laughing so hard and thankful at same time I didn’t have Tyler’s job! He’s a trooper.👍I kept thinking when he was squeezing himself through a knot hole, why you didn’t jack the camper up a bit to give a little more room. Girls made great progress and the fireplace is beautiful. Great times together mama daughter and also dad. What a team you have and no challenge is to great! Really enjoy the videos. Looking good!!
