Lewis, I was drawn in to Wim Hof by a combination of doubt & curiosity. I am a doctor of medicine, a researcher prior to medical school. I have never been a strong breath holder but the first time I did his breathing exercises I was able to hold my breath for almost 2 minutes. I have been using Wim’s conditioning methods for almost a year. Every time I feel slightly ill or under the weather I perform these breathing exercises. I also do breath work now every morning & evening & I have a mental clarity & stamina as in the days of my youth. I am 62 & athletically out perform my sons & grandsons. I’m a believer!

11:55 this literally changed my life. I was suffering from extreme heartburn. You're probably thinking, "Heartburn? So what?" Well, it was so bad that I stopped eating solid foods for 5 months! Every time I tried to eat, I would get a really bad stomach ache and throw up what seemed like stomach acid and sometimes food. It was like my body lost the ability to properly breakdown food. I had to blend it and stay strictly on a liquid diet. I went to the hospital multiple times and they couldn't figure out what it was. I spent so much money and had so many tests done and nobody could find anything wrong with me. At the same time, I was dealing with other personal, financial, and health issues. It got to the point where I felt like I couldn't breathe FOR MONTHS! I had already been searching for heartburn relief techniques on RUclips so I started looking for breathing exercises as well. I found Wim Hof's RUclips channel and wow! I can finally eat again. I still haven't fully recovered and I've been doing it for about a month but now that I'm trying conscious breathing, I'm getting much better. Thank you Wim Hof!

I actually practiced this yesterday here in Michigan. I walked home from work in the freezing cold. It took 2 hours, when I focused on my breathing I literally forgot it was cold and a warmth came over my body. When I got home I was warm.

Damn I noticed that the other day before watching this podcast. Maybe a 20 min walk but I was tired and very cold at the start. I remember noticing by breath was a little faster than normal because of the cold. I did some meditation so I started to breath consciously and took full breaths. Damn I could feel the warm air going trough my throat and heating my body. I got home and my fingers which are usually always cold were actually warm as well.

I have just completed a three year challenge of cold showers, they are best if there is snow on the ground 3 degree C here in Holland. I go under the shower completely in one go including my head. After a short time + - 1 minute I can control my breathing. No problem in staying for 7/10 minutes depending on how much time I have. I have Artritis and I am 62 in May 2017. Thanks for sharing the video, now I have this breathing exercise to practice I can control how much this sickness effects me. I can do all the things I did when I was 30. Thanks again.

I took only cold showers for 6 months straight through the winter once. I had never been more disciplined in my entire life. I developed incredible self control just from starting to only take cold showers. Literally the month I stopped I began making some not so smart decisions. I had already be came reacclimated to comfort.

God bless you Wim. I've just started your method. I do breathing rounds every morning before taking a cold shower and at night. I hated cold and I'm converting it into my ally. I can't wait for each new day to begin to feel energized but moreover, besides physical benefits that I've been feeling (more energy, improved digestion, no skin dryness, etc), suddenly new positive people are appearing on my way and new opportunities are opening. I'm so thankful!!!

      i just started today.

    • @silkydude
      @silkydude 7 лет назад +15

Sorry for the long response time! Here are the benefits I've had:
      1. after doing 3 rounds i am able to get into a meditative state very quickly that is deeper than anything I've ever experienced. Just close your eyes and watch after you do the method. you will be blown away.
      2. Stress goes way down. Along with a general feeling of euphoria and peace after. Ability to control mood and state a lot easier.
      3. Very hard to explain this. After the 3 rounds of breathing, using my attention I feel as if I am able to direct energy (not sure if its bloodflow or what) to different parts of my body. It's very weird but this builds a very deep mind body connection. It could be placebo though but it feels very real and incredible once you experience it.
these are the main 3 Ive experinced, hope that helps

I swam in a lake here in the UK in mid October this year. It was the coldest water I'd ever been in. I wanted to get straight out really but there was this fisherman the other side of the lake so I felt I had to swim a little circle round for at least a minute (complete macho bullshit). I could feel my muscles shutting down as I reached the shore (yes it definitely can be dangerous) but the absolute intensity of euphoria / aliveness I felt when I got out was beyond anything I'd ever experienced. I live on a boat so this practice should be pretty easy for me. Thank you Wim for reminding me what I feel I've always known and thanks so much to you Lewis for bringing this to me. Great interview. Started 4 days ago , been doing the other method you did on the couch every morning and Evening . 4 sets each : 30 breathing x 1min30sec holding .
And it has improved my overall sense so much . I feel more calm , relaxed not agitated over small things like i used to before.
I also had one of the best leg day today at the gym . Even after my workout , i was so energetic . I rinsed my body in Cold shower for 4 mins .
I have been doing cold shower for a month now so its not a difficult task for me. It has cut down my shower time from 25 mins to 5 minute too hahah
But coming across wim Hof was the greatest thing to happen to me this week.
    Absolutely love this podcast.

Same happened with me,too! I am puzzled seeing my physical energy and strength after doing the breathing technique and cold shower! My body and mind feel better than before. I also feel euphoric state in the mind, which amazed me,as I have been doing meditation for years. And meditation could not give me such euphoric state on regular basis,as Wim Hof method does! :O I am confused!!!

I have been diagnosed with MS 02. I rejected all the neurologists poison- interferon injections. I stayed active as possible surfing, yoga, ate well. now later after to c secs Im disconnected by recti diastasis. I will come back better than ever after 42, overcome my MS with still no doctors, and look forward to this method. I remember when I was 9 I spent so much time swimming at the YMCA. I was starting to breath under water...never could explain it or understood.now I do.

"Having conceived of his purpose, a man should mentally mark out a straight pathway to its achievement, looking neither to the right nor the left. Doubts and fears should be rigorously excluded; they are disintegrating elements, which break up the straight line of effort, rendering it crooked, ineffectual, useless. Thoughts of doubt and fear never accomplished anything, and never can. They always lead to failure. Purpose, energy, power to do, and all strong thoughts cease when doubt and fear creep in."

YES, love, caring and sharing is true masculinity, that is emotional strength-of course, we like physically strong men too, but he states the complete truth! Also, love his speech and style of engaging- so pure! Love his conviction and his knowing and his superior knowledge of everything. It's mind-blowing! Thank you Wim!

I learned of this breathing years ago and didn't know about him. Funny thing is people would say you're hyper ventilating yourself. Yes you could but I found that in order to know when you have reached a good spot to slow down and relax the breathing is the moment you reach the tingles and light headed feeling. Thats when you know you've reached the right spot to let yourself relax and even stop breathing for a moment. Its very relaxing and great for meditating. But I never knew that it could do all this stuff its very mind opening! No wonder I haven't been sick in years. Its all starting to make sense on all the experiences I have had using this breathing.

I developed an anxiety after a situation with a college tutor, been trying to fix it for the last year, few months back gave up and took the anti depressants - which thankfully, I seem to be one of the few who dodges the side effects except for feeling exhausted nearly all day long, but it was better than the alternative.
Few weeks back got into cold showers as a form of building up stress resistance, then being a JRE fan i accidentally stumbled onto this wonderful man. His breathing technique freaked me out with how much it works in the cold and you just don't feel it really that much. But this, this has been a life saver, I've been watching this vid and doing it with them, and for the first time in a year I feel like myself again. Not saying it's a cure, but anything that works for the individual is always a good thing, albeit unfortunate for the ones it doesn't but if you're like me, give it a shot, it's better than the alternative.
    Thanks Hof!!

I have an enlarged heart. I've been told it won't return to normal; however, I've made some significant progress in healing through breathing, meditation and spirituality. My ejection fraction has gone from 25% to between 60-70% - normal is 50%. The cardiologists are amazed. I believe that, with this normal heart function, I will be able to completely heal. I've just been led to Wim Hof's breathing technique and I think this will carry me forward. I'm being cautious, but can already see progress and I'm very grateful to Wim Hof for having shared his gifts.

This guy is right :) Spirituality is about an inner experiment and about connecting our self with what's alive in us, it has nothing to do with some kind of believe systèms, it's about connecting ourself with life and experiment it. It's because his knowledge come frome his experience that he is so powerfull, this guy knows what he is talking about. He is not talking about concepts or ideas, he talks about a real life's experience (and that's the real knowledge) .
We really need more people like him in order to give us the strenght to go beyond our conditionning and beyond all the conditionning that our society has put inside of our head.
We really need to reconnect ourselfs with life and to trust in our self, to trust in our capacities and in the power that life has put inside of us.
May God bless him and give him the strenght to spread his message as far as he can .
    One Love

I followed your interview with great attention. Let me tell you that Sarah's question at the end of the interview is the most important one. I have followed Wim Hof's method for a period of time on a regular basis, but it is when you have a peak of stress or anxiety when you start wondering if the method is really worthy. Now, thank you for revealing the answer to that problem. I also thank you, Lewis, for the work you do. Kind regards from Spain.
