- Here is my long awaited (lol) Santo Domingo apartment tour! Been living in Santo Domingo for about a year now and thought I’d share where I have been living. I pay 1,000 USD for this apartment monthly and it is located in Piantini. If you have any other questions for me let me know down in the comments!

That’s a really small apt for $1000 in DR. It better be located in one of the top neighborhoods in Santo Domingo, because, I would not pay that much for it.

@@4centavos890 Why not live in a Santo Domingo Este luxury apartment? Larger space for less rent, less traffic, etc.
I was shocked at the price because l travel there often and my friend showed me a beautiful more spacious apartment in a great neighborhood for $400 US a month. So l was looking to see what causes this to be $1000.

Dude. I am a Dominican living in USA, and I must tell you that you are been taken for at least $300.00 a month. The area where you live is great, your place, for that price isn't. I
suggest you look around for better opportunity. Talk to a Dominican friends and they will tell you the same thing.

$1000 a month for a small 1 bedroom is definitely too much even for Piantini. I could understand a penthouse 3 bedroom with private jacuzzi. I would look for another place. Probably can get a new 3 apartment for around $350 in the Alameda/Prolongacion 27 de Febrero area. Pricing of rent in D.R. is getting out of hand.
Yep. I recently traveled there and learned this is grossly over priced and they will rent to whoever 8s foreign and sees that as a steal, which it is in america, but that is 5 3 bedroom apartments with ac and hot water in DR

i think $1000 is way too high , you can actually rent cheaper than that in other areas in the city and even outside the city ,you can even have a whole two bed house with backyard and close to the beach for $300 or even $600 , but piantini is one of the bourgiest neighborhoods is like the west village or chelsea of nyc and forget about having a car there traffic is horrible.

I'm in piantini as well neighboor, best neighborhood! Serrales is not really Piantini, but I'll let you have it haha. I'm so glad that I found your channel. Long story short, I've been wanting to expat for the longest. I visited Santo Domingo a few months ago. Ended up meeting this really nice guy who I'm getting to know. In 2weeks I was able to see enough to know that I want to call D.R. my second home.
I've been watching all kinds of RUclips channels for references..I'll be back next month!! I'll work in the states and probably go back and forth every 3months. This is a really nice set up for $1k, does that include utilities or is that separate?

That is awesome!! And yes it includes a lot of amenities (gas, water, heat, etc). The only thing it doesn’t include was electricity (since that varies apartment to apartment).

To much info and $1000 usd is extremely expensive for that unit.
I'm familiar with Piantini.. While it is one of the top neighborhoods, I would not pay $1000.
You could actually get an apartment for $650 in a nice neighborhood as well.
It doesn't have to be Piantini but in another nice neighborhood.

I’m considering a move to Santo Domingo for a year or two .. I’d like to rent an apartment in a nice tree shaded walkable street like in Piantini or Naco .. is it easy to get to supermarket in these areas without car .. would paying a year in advance help bring the price down ? And what do you pay in electricity ? Ty
Yes paying a year (or even 6 months in advance) can help lower down the price per month. I know a couple of people who have gone this. For electricity on average I don’t pay more than 100 usd per month (and that’s me not being mindful of my consumption). If you are more conscious, it could be cheaper

The standard here is first months rent and two months of security deposit

I "sort of" enjoyed your video. Entertaining and informative. But you guys are sort of paying a bit much!
That apartment is not worth that on average per month. That overflating prices is the best that them dominicans can do! What a pity! As an airbnB during peak seasons if they can garner that much then power to them! I would not pay that amount for nobody damn apartment, condo etc..forget it! In my humblest opinion they are so starve for any sort of money that they will over inflate prices while you have peasants, campesinos all the around as soon as one step off the block! Never mind forget it, the country is to crooked but travelers who come there needs to be aware of the shenanigans and "SCAMS', that's integral part of the culture! DR is a failed state, it had it's glory but it's in no way to pay a fortune! Colombia, even puerto rico is much better...they are not as money grubbing!!
