    Hi David, a lot of work going on again, extra lighting is always a good thing, the single coat of paint on the mill walls looks like a nice effect to me.
    All the best .
    Oscar

      Hello Oscar, yes, I am keeping the momentum going while I have the time and interest but my garden is beginning to call to me. I think I shall probably get a lighting professional in to look at the main layout room. It is only a 7' ceiling and the lighting I have now is very uneven. There has been overwhelming support for the single coat of paint so I have moved ahead with that already.
      Regards, David.

      Hello Peter. I am not rotating the mugs quite as much as I used to but the Boulton Abby one has seen quite a bit of service just recently. The mill project is nearing the end, if anything is ever actually finished. It's getting close now. Cheers, David.

      Thank you Dave, everyone seems to like the weathered look so, that is what it will be. The steel coils have waited many years for me to find the right paint, I agree, they do look good. It is a great compliment to hear you say that you like seeing the running on my layout, thank you for that. Cheers, David.

    Great Layout, Love it!! The weathered look is real. Maybe some light back ink, some small drop of rust here and there and you're on your way. weathering happens . over a period of time, so take your time . Enjoy

      Hi Calvin. yes, I did intend adding some streaking although I seem to have achieved that already. Our local mill is about 60 years old and it still retains a clean look on buildings of this type. I am 6 weeks into this build and enjoying it very much. Cheers, David.

    Hi David, I've never known any building to look unweathered, so I would imagine a brand new pulp mill would look out of place. If that was corrugated iron I'd be putting rust stains down the walls and detailing the nails. But that building looks very large, it would take a while. The lighting makes it much better, lifts the scene right up. Its coming alone nicely mate. Steven.

    • @trainsontuesday
      @trainsontuesday  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Steven, our local mill is around 60 years old but the buildings look pretty clean, so I wasn't sure. The kit walls are corrugated but there are no panel lines or nail details. It is a big building, bigger than my lunch box from my working days! I agree on the lighting, it has made it much better for both working and videoing in there. When I started the project I said it would take a while. I'm not feeling any pressure to get it finished. It's just slow steady work, I'm enjoying it. Cheers, David.

    The Pulp Mill is looking great so far, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. Nice to see the 8102 at work again, it sure looked great paired up with my ES44AC. I've been lazy with my video editing, but my video should be out this afternoon.

    i think you should keep the "weathered" look but weather it a slight bit further, in a less uniform manner., to break the uniformity of the pattern, just a little! it looks like a great build! The steel coils look pro David :) ps- and nice running!

    • @trainsontuesday
      @trainsontuesday  9 месяцев назад

      Hi John, yes, I intend to add to the weathering, I just didn't know if I should start with a clean looking building but everyone seems to like the point I'm at now. It is a great build, so glad I have it. I watched a video about a steel coil handling plant. That gave me some ideas for the use of the coils, stay tuned for that. (probably not this year though.) The running session went great, Lucas ran his train over the entire layout without one derailment in over 2-1/2 hours!

    Hi David, I think the walls as you've painted them now look OK for a weathered finish. Did you paint them by brush rather than spraying? If so you seem to have got all the brush streaks running in a vertical direction, which is good for a weathered finish on a building. As Steven has said, you could weather it further, maybe when the building is finished?
    You went to a lot of trouble to paint those steel cols and now they'll never be seen under the car lids! 😉
    All the best, Steve

    • @trainsontuesday
      @trainsontuesday  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hello Stephen. Thank you. The undercoat of dark gray was sprayed on and the lighter gray was brushed following the lines of corrugation. I neglected to say in the video that I do intend to add to the weathering. The steel coils needed to be hidden pre painting but now I can think of ways to use them, they will be seen. Cheers, David.

      Hello Mon, are you cooking in the heat or flooded out? It seems to be all the news coming from Aus. these days. I guess I didn't phrase my question right. It had always been the intention to have it weathered but I didn't know whether I should start from a clean look or from that non uniform look. The decision is made and work is proceeding, and yes, happily.
      Cheers, David.

    Nice video! What is the grade in this video? By eye it looks like it might 5%! I've been planning an N scale layout with grades up to 4%. That came to a sudden stop when I saw some videos testing grades with limited success over 2%. What can you tell me, David, that might encourage, help, or discourage me. Tom
    PS. One coat id say, or two with some additional weathering art.

    • @trainsontuesday
      @trainsontuesday  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for watching and commenting Tom. Great question. My grades may look a little confusing because I have a grade on the mainline climbing from left to right and beside it a grade on the branch line climbing right to left. It makes them look steeper than they are. I ease into and out of the grades but in all instances the grade is about 2%. Thank you for weighing in on the pulp mill question, that's much appreciated. My advice to you would be to avoid grades if possible unless you have a lot of room. My mainline grades in both direction are about 13 feet long. Other advice I would impart is to get building and learn as you go, be prepared to change it if it isn't working for you and use flex track for more realistic curves. Hope that helps and all the best. David.
