Hi David. Love you way you've organised the cabinets behind you. Great capture of the trains. One long passenger train. Brilliant meeting you at GETS. Thumbs up thumped 👍 ....Pete and Su....
Hello Pete, Finally home but sick. I picked up some bug a few days before coming home. It'll run its course I suppose. Gets was fantastic, I seem to be known by quite a few RUclipsrs and I met many more. I didn't have my YT sign in info with me so I have had to wait until now to reply to comments. Glad you liked this video, I have looked at a couple of yours today. I'll check out some others as I get caught up an get this bug out of my system. Cheers, David.
Hi Ian, thank you. I have not been active on my channel during the summer of 2024 but I expect to get back to work on it during the winter months. Michael Downie is a great guy, it was a pleasure hosting him at the Kamloops Heritage Railway. David.
"Lo and behold,it was on time...I can't get my head around that one." I bust out laughing. Always good to see your happy self David! It was great to catch you last year at Supertrain so many years since I met you when I was in grade 8! All my best to you and thanks for the great videos!
Hi Chris, it is a bit of a shock when VIA shows up at the scheduled time these days. Last year it seemed like most trains were on time, not so this year. It was great meeting up last year, unfortunately I couldn't make it this year. Time and life have flown for sure, I can't get my head around that either. Glad you are enjoying the videos. I'm busy with a big project at home and don't have a lot of time to make them at present. Have a great summer and take care, David.
Good morning David, Great Trains and the weather looks terrific in those clips, we've had some amazing weather here in the last few days. Lovely to see the railway running away behind you. All the best. Oscar
Hello Oscar. Our weather has warmed nicely, 28c. today but we are still getting bad winds. Potted plants got scattered around the yard again last night. I think my railway can be relied on to run more than VIA Rail can. Cheers, David.
Hello David, great pictures again. And yes trains often need more time to reach there destination than cars.😖 In Germany/Europe this normaly happens on short and middle distance. Long distance trains are usually much faster than using the car. Take care. Cheers Andy 🤠
Hi Andy. Yes, the train can be slow but on a long trip even a low trip will be faster than driving because the train runs all through the night too. Cheers, David.
Very enjoyable David. I noticed the ship photo in the background with a sailor's photo in the corner. My dad served in the Royal Navy and I have a photo of his ship, photo of him and the ship's tally.
Hello Michael, glad you enjoyed the video. The ship in the photo is HMS Girdleness. The inset picture is HMS Penlee Point. Both are the same vessel but vastly different. Dad was on it as the Penlee Point in the Pacific theatre. David.
The way I look at it is if you are travelling from Vancouver to Toronto or vice versa you get more train time for your $. They still have to feed and care for you so it is like an extended holiday. Just make sure you leave yourself an extra 24 hours at each end! Todays # 1 is 2 hour 41 minutes heading into Saskatoon right now.🚂
Hi, thank you for your perspective. It is the way I tend to look at it too if I am travelling, I've done the Vancouver to Halifax run a couple of times. Being a seasoned UK train traveler too I know that 30 seconds can be the difference between catching a train or missing it
Hi Les, the sleeper car and first class would be okay for their meals but not coach class, the food would be available but at cost. Both diners were full as No. 2 passed by.
Thank you Michael. I've noticed over my last few visits that the British railway operators are sipping back into that time keeping mode. Cheers, David.
Very cool David!! That passenger train is longer than our Amtrack and our sounder both!!! wow I love it!! love the scenery! love your layout always cool to see trains running on your layout I am going to be rebuilding mine soon!! Take care have a wonderful weekend!!
@@trainsontuesday when i rebuild it will be in scale but I am thinking about one loop of HO scale im not sure yet but it will be a bit before i start running trains as i have to start all over again I have to get the table and wood and foam again I lost everything due to a bug invasion thats why you have not seen me in a while i needed time to grieve the loss and get over the trauma i suffered so now im trying to get my life back again and now im going to start getting back to where i was before i lost everything! you will never lose me i just needed to take some down time!
17 hours is outrageous for what is a 4 hour road trip David. I know freaight takes precedence, but delays like that are very cynical indeed. Talk about trying to kill a service. For some reason we are freezing our butts off down here. It hasn't been this cold in Winter since i was a child. It's stopped raining at least, so that's something. Steven.
Hi Steven, I don't know the details as to why it was so late, it may have left late, I just don't know. CN makes no bones about it, they want the train off their tracks. We have warmed up nicely now but we are still getting bad winds. David.
Great video Ðavid my friend, taking seventeen hours on the train to do a journey that takes four or slightly more hours in the car is dreadful, unless you get a full tour of the Rockies?
Well Digger, the route between here and Vancouver is through the Thompson and Fraser canyons. Both are incredibly scenic but neither No.1 nor No.2 are scheduled to run through there during daylight and even being 17hrs late wouldn't have made much difference to that. If you want to see it all in daylight then you'll have to travel on the Rocky Mountaineer. Of course that would cost you both arms, one leg and the farm. lol.
Cool David. Question. Do seats in the observation decks cost more than the regular seats or can you just wander around the train freely? Thanks. Happy Modelling
Hi Mon, glad you liked it. The observation cars are included in the price of your ticket. There are some restrictions on where you can go on the train but everyone has access to the observation cars.
Another great video David thank you for sharing them.
Thank you Phil.

VIA has some nice looking passenger trains…good catches…hard to believe those trains are pretty much empty
Hi Anthony, it is too bad that people don't use the train more often but at this time of year the trains do tend to be well patronized with tourists.
I hope that VIA served up additional meals! Both looked great though David.
Hi Les, the sleeper car and first class would be okay for their meals but not coach class, the food would be available but at cost. Both diners were full as No. 2 passed by.
Very nice video 👍🏻
Thank you.
Thanks for the video will be in Salmon Arm July 11th to the 18th,not sure when we will be coming to Kamloops, waiting for a reply from Debs sister.
Hi Ray. Thank you, please keep me informed of your plans.
Wow, great footage of the Via Rail 'Canadian' train'. Thanks for that Mr. Atkins.
Thank you Greg, It's such a great train.
cool vid on channel nice update vid keep up the good vid you do layout looks well thanks lee
Hi Lee, thank you. I do enjoy my layout and those VIA trains.
Great video david
Thank you.
Great shots of the two Vias. That time keeping you mentioned sounded like the time keeping of British Rail in the 1960's Cheers Michael
Thank you Michael. I've noticed over my last few visits that the British railway operators are sipping back into that time keeping mode.
Cheers, David.
nice Via catches David! those trains are long :)
Hi John. they are running 20/22 cars at present but 10 years ago it was around 30/34. Cheers, David.
so does this mean summer started 17 hours later , or just for those poor people if they were stuck on the train
I'm sure it says something about that in the fine print on the ticket.
Good job no one commutes by train
As long as you have WIFI it should be okay to commute.
Good morning david

you can wander around freely for the most part.
Hi Mon, glad you liked it. The observation cars are included in the price of your ticket. There are some restrictions on where you can go on the train but everyone has access to the observation cars.
