Damn, the Christmas season is getting stretched further and further yearly. That excursion was decked out with Xmas decorations throughout - and it was still only 25th NOVEMBER.! The equipment, though, is a testimony to the endurance of 1960s technology.
Wow, the freight did continue. Interesting read in the description. peter Pan and friends (an interesting Loco) got stopped in Edinburgh. No Neverland for them. lol Nice mix, hope you were warm and dry! Take care!
I know depleted uranium is very dense but 4 loco for 3 (empty?)wagons looks a lot over the top. Ha (power transfer?). Flooding at Shap sounds odd as Shap is near the top of the route. The quarries must have over flowed. The fallen trees did not happen when there where line men to keep trackside hazard free? Swiss and Norway cut back any tree which , if it fell, would interfere with the running gauge. It also gives the snow clearance equipment somewhere to throw snow. All this trouble with railway EV's what is going to happen when road EV's are hit by this type of weather?
The DRS run would be two trains combined. Each pair taking a flask or two on.Theres a river that overflows and the line drainage still back north of Shap village.
Another who braved the cold to show us the chaos and charter. With thick snow falling fast I missed out on going to York and glad I did the way things went on the EC side as well. The charter with Mayflower only got as fa as Preston and that was very late. I wonder how this one faired. Old locos just keep going most of the time, it is the new trains that cause so many cancellations.
@@cedarcam I heard from a passenger on the Barrow charter that generally the first class passengers at least had a good time. They were bussed from Preston, getting to Barrow at 0040. I didn't check out the Gloucester charter.
If they can let freight and charters through why not normal services.. surely they are just as important.. thanks for braving the cold Les ..stay safe.
@@davedear929 the Train Operators have little interest in profit as they get subsided anyway. Plus they are risk averse, having replanned most services the night before. They do have the problem of terminating trains at a point where their crews won't get stuck.
Cancellation of the Berwick Part was due to Network Rail imposing Restrictions on the Ecml with the Weather conditions so Joppa was where it was stabled. This also ment that on the return it got away from Edinburgh 40 minutes early with the 47 tucked in behind the 86
A lot of passengers getting on the train to Newcastle probably in the hope of jumping on the North East line upto Edinburgh and across to Glasgow... Funny how all the passenger trains stop but the freight keeps moving.. 🤔🤔
Thats true although that wasnt being announced as a valid route for Avanti ir TPE tickets. Saturday is noght out day for Carlisle folk heading to Newcastle whatever the weather! Freight is profit while passenger isnt.
It's really an unparalleled train presentation, the storm cant affect the strong railway system !! Greetings from India.
Thanks
Another great selection Les keep warm when out and about 👍
