  • Hello flight simmers, and welcome back to Alpha Hotel flight simulator training.
This is flight lesson #6 in our IFR or instrument training series. This video will be part 1 of 3 videos taking an in-depth look at how to fly an ILS approach. In this video, we'll take a look at what an ILS is, what it's components are, how they work, and how to use them.
In the follow-up videos, we'll do 2 demonstration flights - one in the G1000 equipped Cessna 172, and one in the classic or "steam gauge" Cessna 172, to demonstrate how to fly the approach in each of those aircraft.

I have now flown the IFR route from KBUM to KIXD multiple times with both the classic and the G1000 C172, following your advice on the way. This has been hours of fun with MSFS. I almost feel at home at KIXD by now. Thank you for being my instructor on the way. One day, I'm planning to take this knowledge to a test in a full-cabin simulator at our local flying school, with a certified CFI with me in the cabin. I bet that checkride should go not that bad.

Great videos that have helped me greatly. Just a suggestion the newer G1000 has a green circle(flight path marker) on the PFD. Would value your opinion on how to use it in flight.

With regards to the green circle, are you referring to the green airplane symbol that appears on the attitude indicator when you have synthetic vision turned on? If so, that is called the flight path indicator or flight path vector. It displays your flight path on the attitude indicator (i.e. if you are climbing or descending, and your ground track (instead of your heading.)) I'll post a link from a video where I talked about it briefly below, though I may do a more in depth video on it in the future.
I don't find it particularly useful in GA aircraft - but it it very useful in military jets with Heads Up displays. You can place the FPI on the runway during approach, and then use that and power management to fly a decent approach. It's also useful as an early warning of microbursts in airliners, but I don't think microbursts are emulated in flight simulator.
Here is the video where I talk about it: ruclips.net/video/bfcIzxmW5ug/видео.html
