  • “Paint your village and you will paint the world…” The saying fits the Spaniard Luis Mateo Díez (Villablino, León, September 21, 1942), who in his narrative work shows his place of origin and his recognizable characters, while at the same time Through them he explores universal themes of literature.
    In this report we present the most representative of his novels and short story books, which explain why he was awarded the 2023 Miguel de Cervantes Spanish Literature Prize and his acceptance speech given on April 23, 2024 in the Paraninfo of the University of Alcalá de Henares, in Madrid.
