Yeah her importance in the series definitely downgraded but not once have I looked at her in MGS1 and thought she was going to be bigger or more developed than she really is. It was really cool to see her again in MGS4 but I was never disappointed or outraged of her character in that game let alone thought her character was poorly written
I don't know why people always focus on the bad female characters in particular. You could say the same about Colonel, Sigint, Huey, Johnny and even Otacon. Kojima isn't bad at writing female characters, he just doesn't give unimportant side characters much attention, he only focuses on the important characters, that's why the Boss is so well written
Exactly, MGS has moments where almost every character has it's time to shine but it doesn't forget that the main characters, those Being Snake, Big Boss and Raiden are the protagonists, they are the center of the story and need are the ones that need to be fleshed out the most, codec characters can and may add to the story but they don't need to be as fleshed out as our main character

Kojima is a hack writer who steals all his ideas from tom clancy novels and anime. How he got this legendary status in the gaming community is beyond me and really shows how low the bar really is
Quiet, Naomi and Rose are way worse. They actually have significant roles in the games they appear in unlike Mei Ling. Mei Ling is completely irrelevant. You could remove her from MGS1 and it wouldn't matter at all. She is just a cute comic relief girl you call to save your game. If they made the Colonel save your game there would be no difference. There was no real downgrade from MGS1 to MGS4 for her. Naomi got downgraded way more, she let herself die just so Otacon can cry over a woman again. Lol
In that scene I think it was more like Johnny being a perv than Mei Ling being “seductive” but I do agree that Kojima messed up her character real bad.
Quiet is the worst written character in the series imo. So much so that it makes me dislike her in general. Stefanie Joosten is cool, but Quiet is such a terrible character it's unreal.
If she wasn't constantly (almost) fully naked it would improve her by a huge margin. The thing is that she doesn't even need to be naked, Skullface literally underwent the same thing as her and doesn't have to be naked. Idk who lets Kojima get away with this lmao
@@krown_of_G Her clothing (or lack of) is nothing but cringe-worthy to look at and the explanation given for said clothing is even more so. The End who was also photosynthetic wore clothing so yeah... How she falls for Snake and suddenly decides not to kill him immediately after their battle makes no sense, and it also makes no sense as to why she couldn't communicate with everyone on Mother Base. She was infected so she couldn't talk, okay sure. Why couldn't she use pen and paper to write then? Would've been a much easier method to warn the whole mother base about the parasite infection than attacking and shoving a knife in an infected DD soldier's mouth. Everything about Quiet is just so goddamn dumb. It's kinda sad really, because Joosten did a fine job with the voice acting and everything.
@@NeedScissors61 I actually totally agree with that Her being stubborn about telling anyone she's infected doesn't make sense once she and Venom get together Like does she still want to take revenge on Venom and so that's why she refused the walbacia treatment? If she tries to attack that soldier to stop him why would'nt she tell anyone about the kikongo infection some other way? I still think she's cool but so many of the decisions with her seem insane

For me the most underrated female character is Holy White, she is simply and in terms of potential 1000x better than Meryl.

She does help delay the airstrike on Shadow Moses
