@@lajoskutas302 If it were up to a viewer vote she’d have been kicked out at 10-1 margins any time over the past three years. It was the streamers taking her cash that kept her in power but even before all these intimate details of her sociopathic behavior behind the scenes came out she’s been detested for her narcissistic behavior by chat since she first appeared on the scene. If anything she’s lucky that the part of this where nearly everyone watching the streams hated her has taken a backseat and now the focus is on her manipulating everybody and everything behind the scenes instead of being a more straight-forward piece of shit in chat. I guess people can delude themselves into thinking a community enjoys them when they ban anyone that criticizes them.
From what I am beginning to understand this has a lot to do with the concept of "reciprocity". It seems that at some point Chessbae used to give a lot of money("generous" twitch donations) to a lot of these streamers to the point where they started feeling subconsciously obliged to follow her word. So what came next? Power! They let her be a mod in their channels, they let her manage their online images etc. She gained control over them, to the point where she was able to manipulate them in major ways (like this Alexandra situation where she was able to convince her to leave Eric). So in some ways it seems that Chessbae subconsciously bought their trust. A big lesson to be learned here is to always ask why someone you don't even know is giving you "free stuff" and what price will you have to pay once they also need a favour from you.
@@ap3xst4rzz24 definitely. But all these stories make her look a lot like a psychopath and if that is the case you are only "gucci" to a psychopath for as long as they need you and after that you'll wish you'd never met them
While that can be true, but i think, we should still seeing that Pogchamps is about introducing new people to chess. The effect of Pogchamps on that is more significant than power that Hikaru or Chessbae gained. And if that true, i think chesscom start to diversify coach and commentator into more GM or chess master. AFAIK Hikaru commenting on less match than previous Pogchamps.
Ben Finegold knows Hikaru, he literally went to Hikaru's parents' wedding and was his second after he fired Kasparov (lol). Of course he will have some bias as anyone does, but I doubt anyone in the scene knows Hikaru better than Ben.

Eric is 100% right to be upset. Alexandra should have told ChessBae off. Together they should have exposed this awful, manipulative person instead of agreeing to her demands.
Let's be honest, Alexandra chose the money over eric's friendship. She followed Hikaru and Chessbae because they had the more views/income. That's lame, and you can see it truly makes Eric sad
I didn't expect this drama to go to get dark... Hikaru and Chessbae using their e-cred to give an ultimatum, "I'm going to damage your relationship or your career: choose one."

@@deaconblackfire2896 It's not that black/white. From the Alex clip you can tell that the chessbea thing was a breeding ground for a lot of argument between them. Alex seems to focus more on Eric's "poor" reaction to that situation . But tbf, Eric must've been under a lot of pressure. Man, over the last few weeks I’ve really come to love all of the chessbrahs. They’re so funny and cool and they’re just tryna play chess and yet they keep getting railed. We love you ❤️
I've never really liked the Chessbrah channel nor Eric, but these recent videos he's released I've actually completely turned around and really feel for him and like him.
You're right in a sense, but it's not like she's being a bad guy here. She's a young adult looking to forge a career for herself. You honestly can't fault her if she's given an ultimatum between professional development and a relationship. She can always date other people, but choosing Eric here could've been disastrous for her career, especially considering the vindictive behavior being shown by chessbae and hikaru.
@@karl9791 regardless. She says that she just wanted to not associate with him for two weeks. That’s not something a friend would do when their friend is down. Alexandra looks bad by her own admission imo.
Man, you can tell just by the nature of the story how much this situation has affected Eric. Feel so bad for him, even though he seems to take it like a champ (on the outside atleast). Can understand how one would also be really upset by how Alexandra reacted (even though she isn't in the wrong at all and her choice in this isn't easy) its still difficult when the one you really like doesnt immediatly defend you and take a bullet for you, even though it may objectively be an unreasonable ask. Chessbae really has no sense of reality and no empathy at all..
It's only a matter of time before Levy outgrows Hikaru. Levy seems like a decent, loyal guy so he might not go against Hikaru, but I can for sure see him going against Chessbae (if she's even left in the scene, hopefully she won't be kept behind the scenes after Chesscom and Hikaru dropped her)
I can fully understand both views on this situation. In case of Eric it's completely normal how he reacted when he didn't got full support. On Alex side it was a completely rational decision - as usual of very intelligent people they got problems to relate rational decision onto the emotional way you treat another person. I had the same problem some years ago and lost a wonderful person on something like this cause I thought the other person would need to understand my rational decision but now I know I couldn't really transfer into hers. It's quite hard to do it when you have problems with emotions and what other people really are feeling for you.
I have a lot of respect for how Eric handles this. mostly off-camera and if he speaks on camera, then with a lot of care and making very sure to not say anything not fair
I must know who this ChessBae is now; this is wild. Also, shows Alexandra's age and professional vulnerability. Sucks that this happened, but that's not a relationship he needed to be in. Alex clearly needs more growth and Chessbae needs to take a firm seat somewhere.
D J look at the similarities, she’s from California so it’s clear she’s rich, born in 94, has literal red streaks in her hair (just like her avatar shit), and takes a mod status as serious as her life (female trait)
2:00 - 'when she was given that ultimatum and she wasn't immediately on my side, I was upset' - Jesus Christ, could anyone blame him? This is absurdly toxic. A person who would play ball with an ultimatum like that, be it for career reasons or 'growing teh channel' or w/e would be gone from my life forever
People like Eric are just so hard to find and it’s 100% Alexandra’s loss, the fact chessbae treats her that badly and Hikaru randomly tells her what and what not to do with her channel and her life, and she just willingly bends over instead of being with someone who truly loves her tells you so much about her. But Hikaru now just looks like a 70s comic book villain, what is that dude doing with his life? How does he even sleep at night? The moment I saw his ugly face and I just felt that something was wrong about him, no you don’t tell me that chessbae acts without Hikaru’s consent, their topstar.
The brahs have been really stand-up guys through all of this, and I seriously feel bad for all the toxic shit they've been through. They really didn't deserve it either as it sounds like the thing that started this whole mess was just them trying to avoid drama by removing chessbae from their channel, and it must have been hard to have had to keep the abuse/manipulation under wraps and to see none of your 'friends'/co-workers stand up for you for so long. Chessbae honestly sounds like a pretty fucked up person.
As Alex said, there's a lot more nuance to all these situations than people are giving them credit. I know this is a chess community thing, but not everything is black and white. A lot of people made mistakes along the way and we should remind each other to put down the pitchforks and let the people involved deal with things amongst themselves
@@DemonicIsaac666 thanks, I heard there's video but hadn't found it. There were lots of contradicting accounts of what happened. 1. If these issues interest you, it's worth it to check Alexandra's comments in the Twitch link above, it's at the 6:00 minute mark. It offers a good deal of context from her perspective. 2. I've had enough of Nakamura. At the outset of the recent drama my view was that I don't really know these people, so I will try not to pass judgment as though I do. But over the last couple of weeks too much clear evidence has accumulated about Nakamura. I have seen Eric's assertions regarding Nakamura's character and observed the various responses from those who know him, as well as his non-apology apology. I'm done. The nicest chess streamers universally have chimed in that Nakamura has been unreasonably rude to them. So the hell with it: I hereby pledge not to watch Nakamura on Twitch or RUclips or anywhere else. Let's show him that acting like an asshole isn't cool. Thumbs up if you agree to that. 3. On the other hand, I'm not so sure as everyone else here seems to be about chessbae. (If you don't know why references to her keep coming up, it's because she is a very big donor to all the chess streamers and has influence in their channels. That includes support over the years to chessbrahs, to Botez, and most recently to Nakamura. Naka recently severed some ties with her after she threatened chessbrahs with copystrikes, which Nakamura reports he did not know. Her real name and bio are not public information.) In any event: I have not personally observed her being a psychopath. If you have, then form your own judgment, that's your call. But in my view it's hard to know, because we haven't seen her face or heard her voice, or seen much more than comments in streams and heard stories second-hand. And in my view, that's not that much to go on in determining one's view of personality. I've watched her mod a few times and exchanged a few words. So, I don't know, maybe she's a psychopath; but then again she may be just a person trying to get things done, just like all the streamers, and like the rest of us. And what she is trying to do in part is make the streaming world less hostile to women. That much is clearly part of her agenda. Let's face it: Twitch is a very misogynistic culture. Women streamers like Alexandra and Andrea are constantly subject to harassment. And male streamers are often toxic on the subject. When Eric goes on a drunken rant about raping XQc's girlfriend, that doesn't mean he's entirely a terrible person, but it's also not acceptable, as he would agree. According to Alexandra, that was what got chessbae upset, and led to her urging Alexandra not to stream jointly with Eric, which then led to Eric and Alexandra having hard feelings. Alexandra reports that her conversations with chessbae have been more in the category of checking in with an older sister, rather than dealing with a psychopath. But even if chessbae is a psychopath or some completely unreasonable and manipulative person: it's still the case that objectification of women, degrading them, nasty comments, are all part of the online culture, and I'm on the side of let's try to change that. 4. People casually say "You need to see a therapist" as a shorthand for "you're nuts, or "too much for me to deal with." Speaking as a therapist myself, I kind of hate that. It makes therapy seem like this terrible destination that only the truly deranged end up in. In fact, my clients are normal people trying to make it in a stressful world. I say all that as preface to this: if you are ever in a position like Eric seems to have been for the last year, like the stress Alexandra seems to be showing, consider talking to a professional. I'd recommend it to them if they asked me. Now, if talking to friends and family is sufficient, excellent, do that. But avoiding dealing with stuff and going toward anger and emotional reactivity probably isn't the call and leads to a lot of difficulties. There are so many moments in all the drama here when I've thought, "Ah, if this were my client, I sure could think of some helpful things to say." So, you know: consider it. We're not that scary. 5. I keep seeing the curious phrase "Who would have thought that chess has drama?" MEEEE. Because all people have drama. Carpenters, butchers, lawyers, and chess players too. That's people. Peace.
As far as chessbae trying to make the streaming world less hostile to women, there’s a thread on Reddit where she was making derogatory comments to ILYSuiteheart when she decided to stream chess for a day
Eric. you seem to wear your heart on your sleeve and come across as a young man a bit conflicted. You are young, and still finding your way (just like everyone else your age). Eric I know what you are feeling. And having so much empathy to her, shows that you have big heart. But afterall face the facts: 1) She made her decision when she didn't take your side. I know that you would sacrifice almost everything for person you love and if partner is not ready to just take your side then she is not right for you. Move on!!! 2) I watched her streams and never saw any regrets or sadness about this situation. And I know it hurts, but Move ON! 3) if she wanted to see you no one could stopped her. She just trying to sit on 2 chairs or keeping you for reserve. Serious relationships doesn't work like that. Move on Eric! P.S. you are very handsome, smart, intelligent person. Have a little big dignity for yourself and look around, you will definitely find someone for whom you will be the whole world. And who would turn that world down for you, bro!
To those who want to boil this down to "chessbae and hikaru ruined everything": One lesson I've learned the hard way is, it's important to consider how a relationship can weather adversity. Everything can be going great until there's a hiccup; how that gets dealt with is important for long-term in a way it isn't for casual dating. $0.02

Ok, Hikaru's toxic behavior regarding chess was one thing. I honestly compartmentalized that to just an aspect of his personality that I didn't like.
@@thomasharris1090 Well said.
Who the hell is Chessbae anyways....I mean, at this point why is she being kept anonymous??

Genius. As expected from a peter xD
I would just leak the convo. Simple as that. If Chessbae is writing insane stuff like that, leaking it would 100% put people on Alexandra's side.
Knowing chessbae, this sounds completely legit.
Her real name and bio are not public information.)
In any event: I have not personally observed her being a psychopath.
