Magnus playing a WFM with a handicap takes as much mental effort for him as a cashier scanning groceries. Streaming for 8 hours a day sounds boring and monotonous so having friends around always helps. Hah yeah same, I think Alex is a bit of a spoiled princess (even moreso now due to Twitch), but in this particular moment I was glad for her and brought a smile to my face. Only another player who has beat someone much stronger can understand the feeling (happened to me a few times with IM scalps, although not with odds as shown here).

The trick when someone is down on time like this, especially magnus, is to play moves that they cannot premove against. Because you aren’t going to be magnus in classical chess. You can’t play chess to beat him, you have to play the time.
And if he’s premoving, he’s not wasting any time. So what you need to do is simply force him to use his time by not allowing him to premove. And this is something that Alex did really well. If you look at how often Magnus was premoving, watch how little that actually paid off for him. She wasn’t playing how he predicted she might play. Which is the reason she ended up winning even though she was in such a worse position. I don’t know how intentional it was on her part, but she played just weird enough to throw him off and waste his time. Beautiful game

Alexandra's strategy was really smart, especially when she changed her opening to something unexpected, and her quick thinking when the game looked tough was so inspiring. i just realized it’s not just the fact it’s a 10x time difference, cuz if magnus had 5 min to 50 min for her, magnus would ALWAYS WIN since 5 min by itself is a lot for magnus. but they had to shrink his absolute time down to 30 sec to make it nearly impossible for magnus to even finish the average game in time simply due to physical constraints on reality lmao
