That 2000’s decade as a Detroit fan.... Cups in ‘02 and ‘08 NBA champs in ‘04 Cup finals appearance in ‘09 NBA Finals appearance in ‘05 World Series appearance in ‘06 Anyone wanna go back to there with me?
You forgot about the 2012 Tigers making the World Series. “should’ve!!” Won that. But you did say “2000s”Effing Prince Fielder ruined everything. Wings were in the glory days. Pistons shocked the world (minus Michigan) and beat Kobe, Shaq, Malone @ Payton. Now all of our sports teams are Lion like. Rough times to be a fan in the D.
Man I still remember the night we won. The city had so much love for them and they loved us back. It was nothing to see Rip Hamilton on 7 mile in his Maybach back then
I was looking at is also. The Indians are playing the Mets and the probable starters has a 3-3 CC Sabathia. CC still with the Indians, holy ish where did the time go.
It still annoying how the big market teams get more of the media attention regardless if they are losing or winning. Detroit Pistons that season deserve every ounce of praise for winning a championship without a single HOF (at least two of them should be already)
Plain Simple 2005 for sure. 2006 forget it. D-Wade came into his own and they had revenge on their minds from the game 7 loss at home in the ECF from the year before
I'm on board with a 2005 championship at a bare minimum. The Pistons protected Darko Milicic and let go of Mehmet Okur, who promptly went on to average roughly 16 points and 8 rebounds for Utah for the next five years while Darko was a total bust . That ONE mistake kept them from winning at least one more championship.
All 3 of the Pistons championship teams were looked down on because they interfered with who the national sports media and league office wanted to be champions (in 1988 they still wanted more Magic and Bird, then in 1989 they wanted Jordan and Magic…1990 they wanted Jordan v Magic or Drexler…in 2004 they wanted more Kobe and Shaq success…in 2005 to 2008 they always wanted Wade, LeBron, or Celts Big 3 from the East in the finals). On another note…Tony’s opening line about Aretha Franklin’s chest and he and Wilbon’s dialogue into the intro music would get them both cancelled in today’s climate.
most low key scary statement they made was at the end, "what if Kobe goes to San Antonio?" Can you imagine a Prime Kobe and Prime Duncan, with Parker and Manu (became a star the very next season) along with that defence and Pop, they would have been the warriors before the warriors.
Lakers were 7-1 favs ova Pistons bet 400 lost 2800 bookie was laughing allllllllllllllllllllllll the way to the bank n I was crying alllllllllllllllllllllll the way home

MikeG82 Objectivity has nothing to do with nostalgia. I think the upset of this game shows that it actually was a competitive league. Moreover, there was literally a different matchup in the NBA Finals over the next several years. Good try though.
@@supervilla06 this was ONE fluke upset that took an injury by malone and the shaq/kobe relationship finally collapsing to the point of not being able to coexist along with tons of other locker room and organizational drama every other year the clear favorite won but you think this one year proves the league was competitive? the years before this the lakers won 3 in a row, the spurs won 2 before this series and they won the next year too, so one team outside the spurs and lakers won one title in a span of 7 seasons, yeah so competitive LOL guess how many teams won a title in the last 6 years, 4 so that makes the league more competitive now HAHAA good try pretending you actually know something, but any person with a brain can see you are blinded by nostalgia how old were you in 2004? i'm betting you were a child

I cried, and celebrated all night after we dominated the Lakers that Lakers team that had a 26 year old Kobe, and a prime Shaq with 2 other first ballot hall of famer's to go with them.
The 2004 Lakers were the biggest soap opera in the entire league. So much went wrong in the finals for them. Guys clearly did not care about playing hard, too many egos, guys were old and worn out physically and mentally, Kobe and Shaq couldn't stand each other and the Pistons were just better. They basically put the nail in the coffin on LA for at least the next 8 years.
Exactly what it says. I remembering seeing that stuff of (x) is coming in 2011. By then you just dont care too much. But then when it does come, you go; "Woah I remember that announcement. Time flies away"
I remember when the Lakers were waiting on the Pacers/Pistons finals to finish and on this show they said it doesn’t matter because the Lakers are going to win.
Ben Wallace dunking all over Fat Shaq and the lakers smh!! 2001 Shaq woulda put Big Ben in the grave. Fat 2004 shaq had no chance. Kobe carried that team thru the western conference just like he did in 2001 and 2002... but fat Shaq couldn't hit the switch like he did in years past. Shaq'S defense was trash. He and Malone couldn't move on any rotations... and GP's 4ppg were a disgrace. Chauncey sliced his ass up and got mvp
2006 shaq and payton went to miami and won a title together....sucks to be Malone...the only one of the big 6 lakers Payton shaq Kobe George fisher without a ring...both payton and malone lost to Phil in the finals...funny how they tried teaming up with Phil to win one
Tim Todd Gary Payton was matched up with billups for that series. He demolished Payton..i don't think Payton scored 25 points total the whole series. DETROIT STAND UP!
I'm a huge laker fan and this lost hurts more then Lakers losing to Celtics with garnet, Allen and paul. That Lakers team was not ready for the Celtics but with Detroit, that was bad. for some reason the Lakers were not playing their butts off, no hustle, no nothing. Detroit just came in and almost sweap them out. at least put up a fight and who knows maybe they go to game 7. even if Lakers loose at least they fought till the end. oh well. memories.
04 pistons hurt more than 08 celtics for me as well. 04 spurs and 04 Wolves with KG as MVP were better than those wack pistons... LAL had 0 chemistry in the finals. Pistons get to every loose ball smh
Kobe said after the first half of game 1 that the Lakers hadn’t played the Pistons much and was just feeling their way around them. Maybe assumed they would do better in the second half with their normal ‘fast breaks’ but the Pistons defense was too tough. Shaq did put up about 30 points though.
the reason the lakers beat the spurs and tw wolves easy compared to the pistons is because once Kobe had his eyes set on finals MVP he shot the lakers out the series right into Detroit's gameplan
Let's be real. The Pistons out played the Lakers mentally and physically. No one wanted to give them a chance . They wanted to give excuses for the reason why the Lakers did not win just like they did with the 89 Piston champions . People still until this day do not give both teams credit for their hard work winning championships. Both teams kicked BUTTTTTTTT !🤣👏❤
