To this day, one of my favorite days of my whole life was surprising my daughter with her car on a random day when she was 16 years old (in 2004), She just walked out one morning to get in the car for me to take her to school and it was sitting in the driveway. When my brother was 16, he bought his first car, a 1957 MBA coupe. He restored it (I like to say I helped) and later sold it when he graduated from college. He later restored the car our father bought new, with which we both learned how to drive, a 1957 VW beetle. He now has another 1957 MGA coupe, a 1972 MGB convertible, several old motorcycles, all which he is currently restoring, along with the VW. He has won many awards with his restoration work and he is now 71. The point is, Caleb now joins this British car family of folks whose love for these cars remains lifelong. Loved the video, the joy will stay with him forever!

  • @BrazenBrits

This is really cool and we love that Caleb loves this car.
A few years ago, Natalie’s dad (in the Uk) bought an MGB to relive his youth (owned one in his early 20s, now mid 70s). It was the one that got away! Over the years, he restored it to exactly how he remembered his original one. New chassis, repainted, new engine, reupholstered interior, new roof. He barely watches our videos, but we’re pretty sure he’ll watch this 🤣

Your parental ruse in unveiling the car to Caleb was awesome! Capturing it on video and sharing it was a very appreciated. I would be happy to nominate you both as candidates for the parental Hall of Fame! Very entertaining! As a car nut since birth, I can appreciate Caleb's excitement and enthusiasm. In no time flat, Caleb will be an expert in troubleshooting his MGB. His first tool should probably be a Multimeter and books on MGB repair. My first car was a problematic beast to say the least, but, the value of education received working through automotive problems in a simple car served me well for years to come. He is going to have a blast and will learn a lot. Thanks for sharing the big day!

My 1st car was a 67 Fiat 850 Spyder Sport, got it in 78. It would break down every 150 - 175 miles. In college, I would park it in one specific spot so I could push start it myself for 6 months until I could get the starter fixed. I loved that car. Owned it until 2021.
Caleb, enjoy the education of a car you can actually work on and learn all of its peculiar secrets. points burning out, carburetor fowling, electrical problems (catching fire), over heating for no reason and stranding you 100 miles from anywhere, and so forth... Spent every Christmas with my dad, for many years, rebuilding the engine, electrical, clutch until I got my own house then the tradition passed over to my kids. Enjoy it and treasure the memories.

This brought back so many memories of Michigan. It was 60 years ago this summer US 131 Dragway opened. I was 7 and helped prepare for the opening with my Dad, Frank.
In 1974 I owned a Orange '71 MGB (the one with no glovebox) wire wheels (never wish for those again) two 6Volt batteries (impossible to jump) I installed a roll bar (made it much stiffer over potholes) & doors didn't rattle. Recommended! Never had problems finding someone for a push either. And Euchre! Living in Oregon now. Enjoy your MG Caleb and drive safely.

Back in the late 90s I drove an 1971 MGB for years. Chrome bumpers, three windshield wipers, and spoked wheels. Amazing car. Get used to adjusting those dual SU carburetors under the hood. I found a glass glow plug that allowed me to see the color of the flame in the combustion chamber helped a lot with this process. :) Congrats Caleb! Very fun car!

  • @j.patrickmoore9137

Caleb, you have the best parents EVER! Loved this episode.
My two brothers and I all had MG's. My oldest brother was transferred to Fort Hood, TX upon his return from Vietnam, and bought a used MG. Ended up with a dead transmission and bought one from a wrecking yard - a year different - and did the replacement work himself. Never figured out where the extra bolt was supposed to go. Returned home upon discharge and dropped the universal joint on the way home, in an obscure town in California.
My next-older brother bought a new Midget in college - I think it was a 74. Funny story, my mom worked with him on the purchase, then later that Saturday she went to confession. My brother had done something to torque her off, and she talked with the priest about it. The priest says, "Why don't you do something nice for your son for a penance?" She says, "I just loaned him the down payment for his first car." The priest says, "That's probably enough!" He kept it through college and then sold it and bought a first-generation Toyota Celica. The guy who bought it from him eventually sold it, and then that guy eventually put it in storage. My brother tracked it down and bought it back, has restored it, and it's a garage queen now.
I bought my Midget in 79, the last year they were made. Drove it for about 44k miles. The right rear seal never did seal properly, always leaked a bit. Eventually, the electronic ignition started going out intermittently - the car would just die, I'd pull over, give it a minute or so and then start it back up. Eventually it died and I ended up locking up the starter trying to get it going. Had to get the ignition and the starter replaced. Later, one of the gears broke and I had to have the tranny rebuilt. I ended up selling it to a lady who was moving to the east coast (I'm in Oregon) who had retinitis pigmentosa - she was slowly going both blind and deaf, and wanted to have a fun car while she could still drive.
Here's a hint: if you get in traffic and it starts to overheat, roll the windows down and put the heat on full blast.
I always wanted to get a bumper sticker that would say, "The quality parts falling off this car were made in Great Britain."
    All the best to you!!!

This may be the best video you’ve ever put out! What an awesome surprise for Caleb and you guys pulled it off so smoothly! I don’t think I’ve ever seen Caleb literally speechless before. He’s such a great kid and so deserving and grateful. Most kids his age want new Hondas, or BMW’s etc. The fact he wanted a 50yo MGB just shows he’s an old soul, which we already knew.

Love this video. This brought back so many memories for me watching this video. When I was Caleb's age my dream car was an MG as well. I bought my first car (1965 MGB and 10 years old and also Red) for $1,000 knowing it had a cracked that my dad said we can fix it easy. We bought a used head and my dad with my help installed it. This was the first of many times I was out in his shop helping him work on my car. After 4 years the clutch was going out and my dad said "Get a new car! even if it is another MG". I went looking and found a 1977 British Racing Green MGB that was only three years old. I drove that for about 11 years until I blew the engine. I still have that car in storage to this day. Both of mine had the wire wheels, great for changing a flat tire. My absolute dream car is a MGTC.
Enjoy Caleb and know you are in a special MG lovers club!

I was raised in the Northeast and had a similar car (Triumph). I drove it all year long, rain, snow, loved it. Unless Caleb decides to leave it at home, when he goes to college he needs to take it. If it’s his car, it should be his choice! Yes, it needs to be taken care of, but there is no reason that can’t be done. Congratulations Caleb, it’s a beautiful car, be careful, take care of it, and have fun.

I laughed so hard watching you all and the B. Had a 66 MGB for several years, lots of fun. Taught my kids to drive a stick in that car. It takes a little while to work the bugs out, then they a pretty reliable. At least they are simple to work on. Congrads Caleb on your new adventure.

Love the channel, love the mgb for Caleb, just remember one thing about British sports cars,
"If there's oil in them, there's oil under them". Lol.

Awesome surprise! It's great that you could do that for him! We just wish you would have recorded the huge hug that I'm sure he gave both of you. We waited for it and it never came, so that part was disappointing. But he was definitely surprised! You rock, Mom !and Dad!

I watch this and after selling my first car i rebuilt with my father. kinda miss it. But then i remember pushing it a lot and all the issues it had. I am happy someone else is understanding the heartache of mg owner ship.

Congratulations Caleb. The MGB is a great car. I’ve owned a few of them over the years and they are always fun to drive. If you decide to drive in colder climates, get yourself a hard top. Happy Motoring.

Awesome… both the surprise and the card game at the end. We had a red MG in the 70's when I was a child in Wales. I loved it when my mum would pick me up from school and we would drive to the seaside. I hope that car brings you many fond memories!!!

From the UK, you can tell Caleb, that is one heck of a classic. Of it's era, the MGB GT is one of the most sought after cars. The only car that trumps it is the e type Jag, which you'd be adding a few 00's to the price tag, but for $9k, that is an absolute steal.
I have to disagree with 'Mom' though. I know it has been in a museum for many years, but a car that like needs to be driven and needs to be enjoyed, and doing so will create years of memories that will be absolutely priceless. Caleb, you are a very lucky man indeed.
I might be biased as a Mini guy, but the classic Minis that were in that museum, especially if there was a Mini Cooper 1.3l, would have been my pick. I did have a classic Mini, over 25 years ago now and even though I had it for just a few years, it was so much fun. Now 50, I am in my third year of reliving my youth, in a 2011 John Cooper Works mini convertible, and enjoying every single mile.

This is GREAT! We are thrilled for Caleb and all of you! What a wonderful surprise! He will sure love it just as much as I loved mine in 1969. We bought a brand nrew red MGB in July when we graduated from undergraduate school. You might as well sharpen up your mechanic skills, Caleb! All The Best, Buddy! ❤️

My first car was a British Leyland '74 Triumph Spitfire. First day I got it, it stalled going across 2 lanes of traffic. My Dad had to rewire the whole car. I kept a hammer in it always to tap the starter whenever it decided to act up. You had to lift the shift to move to reverse, until the entire thing pulled out and then you just made sure you could pull forward wherever you parked. God I loved that car! Enjoy Caleb!!!!

Congratulations Caleb! I cried happy tears as my dad helped me buy my MGB (it was the same color) and we then worked together to restore and repair it over the years that I owned it. I had to laugh when you guys had to push start the car as I have so many memories of doing the same thing when I had mine. Oh the memories Caleb will make with this car!

My neighbor has two MGs....a 1957 MG roadster and a 1976 MGB similar to what you just purchased. My neighbor does all the maintenance himself and enjoys both as weekend cars. Enjoy the car! The car is a fun driving experience and it's one of those cars you have a relationship with it driving and doing your own maintenance and repairs.

When Trish said this is not a daily driver to Caleb. I couldn't help, but chuckle especially afterseeing the later parts of the video.
