I'm in total shock in the best way possible 🙊🙊🙊🙊👀👀👀👀 This is sooooooo gooood Katy!!!! Girl you are on fire!!!! 💪💪💪👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 And to the Boss: Respect 😄😄😄
This is insane. Foam-based, peel-and-stick madness, I say! And I'm LIVING for it. I literally can't even with how phenomenal this fireplace turned out, Katy. Such a terrific result and under budget, too! Love this so much. ❤️
You knocked it out of the park. E6000 + hot glue will be referenced henceforth as 🎶”The best of both worlds”🎵Hannah Montana would be proud 🥰 Great job and the fireplace looks realistic!
Impressive! You may want to add a mantle at some point for more realness, but it looks really good. LOVE the cat shelves! Obviously you’ve already put them up, but could you please do a cat shelves tutorial? Maybe as part of a diy for someone else? Just a suggestion.
That faux fireplace is spectacular!!!👏👏👏 Love your idea and your video and instructions are so clear, I will now have a fireplace that I've been wanting!!! YAY 🎉
This is like one of the easiest Faux Fireplace DIY's I have ever seen and as obsessed that I am I have seen a LOT. It looks so good and clean. I already have a faux fireplace at home but if I wouldn't, I'd make one now.
Katy, you continue to amaze with your creativity, talent, and personality! This fireplace turned out remarkably pretty! 👍 I was nervous in the beginning, but I should never have doubted you. You rock! Thanks for being sooo entertaining! 😂😁👏😻😅
This is ingenious and looks incredible!!! I love watching your videos for inspiration! I don’t have a built in like yours. Do you think there’s a way to make a freestanding version of this?
You def could! Might not be the strongest thing, but I was thinking you could also thrift a small cabinet and do a sort of mini version of you took off the doors.
Another genius project! You are so creative. Someone else mentioned a mantel, and I agree. Would love to see you add details to this faux fireplace, like a DIY fireplace screen or electric logs.
First, I can’t believe you don’t have air conditioning!!!!! I would melt into a greasy puddle! Next, just let me say, when you started I was why get rid of a beautiful piece of storage for a fireplace? But when you worked your magic it was just beautiful! I love what you did. Now you have a real place for your Christmas stockings!!! Beautiful Baguette seemed to approve
Haha. Thank you for coming along the journey. She definitely approves. Her favorite thing to do is to sit on her pouf in front of the candlelight and stare into the distance. 😂🐈
Wow....looks so real. New York apts have features like this. Great for Fall decorations. Of course Baguette is going to move out the candles and make this a chic kitty condo.
Hi Katy Must admit I had my reservations about this one but You nailed it!! 🎉 Er I mean Glued it… it looks absolutely fab, very innovative 😁 What will you come up with next I ask myself!! 🤔 Baguette is soooo cute 🥰 Have a great day 😊
Nice job, girl! Love the shift to an arch. Might hit it home with the candles snuggled more closely and lifted on a metal item… like a log holder vibe, but maybe a tray?? Or some nice white bark logs. Storage would be cool on the sides too. 🤔
Thank you! I also thought it would be so cute to do a mini version with a small thrifted cabinet. Like a micro-size one for a little corner in an apartment or something.
Hi, Katy! How has it been with the fireplace and the kitty? I have two cats and I feel they are way too destructive and since it is made with foam I am terrified to build it 😂 but I sooooo want to try it
Great question! So far it’s been totally fine. Baguette has leaned on it and tried to hop “behind” it, but I walled it up a little higher so she can’t even get through it if she tried. She hasn’t clawed it or anything, but she digs hanging on her little pouf in front of the glowing candles. The 2-inch insulation foam is pretty thick/sturdy. Baguette only weighs about 7 pounds, so I don’t know how it would hold up to a bigger cat’s aggressive abuse (haha), but I have had no problems with it at all. (She also only prefers to claw her scratching post.) The way I did it was a fairly cheap diy (under $120, I believe), so I would encourage you to try it! Alternatively, if you’re not trying to build it into a specific cubby/space (like I was), I would totally try to source a narrow faux mantle second hand or find the top of a vanity and remove the mirror. I would have done that if I had a simple empty wall space! That’s a genius hack. Here’s an example: www.hometalk.com/diy/living-room/fireplaces-mantels/upcycled-old-dresser-mirror-to-faux-mantle-44281938 Oh, and if you do, send me pics on Insta or email laughcrydiy@gmail.com! I always want to see projects!
Love this look. What fun! I know those battery candles come in other colors and textures, I have reds and birch texture, so I think you could switch those out depending on season or occasion 🙂
They have a projector on temu that makes the light look like fire, you could totally put it between two faux logs! I wanna do this so bad, it turned out amazing, ty for this!
What a great job! I admire the way you hung in there and just kept doing it until it was perfect in your eyes - mine too. I hope to copy your creation and add the ambiance to my place too.
I love this so much!! Great idea! It truly makes a big difference. I would never have thought of using foam, so much easier and less money. You're so creative! Thanks for sharing💗
Aw yay! I know mine is a little different because of the cubby hole. But it’s been over a year and it’s great! BTW, an alternate hack is to take the top half of a hutch and use that as a faux mantle.
The joint compound helps. Oh, I also used a flatter paint, which I think helped too. Oh, I can say a plumber came by the next week and was confounded as to how we were the only unit with a fireplace. And how it was sealed in there. He was shocked when I explained and he saw up close. So…it passed the plumber test. 🙌
I would say probably cleaning from the foam particles was the true Moment of Hell. But other than that, I’m amazed we didn’t have one either! Baguette has already laid claim.
I think this is the best project I've seen on your channel so far! Also, the feminists are going to hate this, but I think those guys were just trying to be helpful. 😊
I swear you are my decor twin flame & soul sister! Also in Los Angeles, my dumb (sweating) ass has been researching DIY fireplaces that don't require a whole wood shop to create! THANK YOU FOR EXISTING (and probably thanks to your parents too, I dunno, I'm not trying to be in their sex lives or anything this is getting weird bye)
Hahahahahhahah. Best comment ever. I so feel you. Note: I saw a girl who geniusly took the top off of a vanity mirror. It was large and pretty and ornately carved. And she removed the mirror and mounted it to the wall as a faux fireplace/mantle. It was even more genius with less work. So…just an idea. I also think you could thrift an old cabinet and then do this same foam thing. Just an idea 🙂
Hi! Just wondering how the fireplace is holding up? And issues or things you would try differently now that youve had it up a while? I want to create one for my room but its be free-standing.
Hi! It’s been fantastic. Still my favorite DIY to date, and I “use” it all the time. With the exception of one small strip of brick that started to unstick (which I just glued back on), it’s been great. If you were to create a “freestanding” version, I would say two things. 1) Be wary of the adhesive you use. I learned after the fact that hot glue isn’t the best for foam (it actually can burn tiny holes and weaken the bond). And spray adhesive will melt the foam! Mine hasn’t had any issue with that, but since I built it into a little alcove, maybe that has helped it maintain its integrity. Here’s some info about better glue alternatives… www.thistothat.com/cgi-bin/glue.cgi?lang=en&this=Styrofoam&that=Styrofoam 2) If I were to do a “freestanding” version, I would actually thrift a small cabinet and remove the doors, then build it around that (might not even need the foam-just brick). Here’s a similar hack (although instead of wood, I would use foam to build it out)… www.chicaandjo.com/diy-faux-fireplace-made-from-an-upcycled-hutch/ Just make sure to use always battery-operated candles, ya know 🙃. Hope this helps, and if you do it, please email me afters! Would love to see it.

Thank you! So nice when a project turns out, especially when you are in serious doubt for most of it 😂
@LaughCryDIY Just like sweat and tears, I think all levels of DIY-doubt really adds a certain "oomph" factor to any project. 🤷♂️
Agreed. This was phenomenal. Congrats!

The unexpected Baguette reveal at 4:33!
She loves a moment 😂
The fireplace turned out great!
Thank you! It was a journey, but I’m so glad about it.
This is exactly how we build some of these out in theater scenery. Great work!
Awesome! Thank you!

Ok, I was lowkey thinking that. Love that idea.
Love this project
Thank you! I’m so happy with how it turned out
Who would've of thought? Katy...Hold my glass of 🍷 Lol love it💙
Haha. Hell yeah.
Wow! Crazy good! Would love to see a picture of Baguette cozying up around the candles. Then made into a poster that says, "light my fire."
Haha. Great merch idea
Love it! Clever! ❤️❤️
Thank you! I’m so glad with how it turned out.
This was AMAZING! I think you could get a fireplace candelabra or buy/build some risers to add more candles and get a graduated effect!
Exactly my plan! Might be a future DIY 😉
This was fabulous. Especially for under $100!!

Fantastic!!

Katy, so purty and cozy..I love it!!!🧱🧱🕯🕯🔥🔥❤❤
Yay! I love it at night.
Bravo monsieur missus! 👏👏👏 and good to see Baguette back at her Diva best 🐈🌟🐈🌟🐈
After her bedroom banishment, we had to let her get a bit of screen time.
Yes, good to see that she hadn't been turned into a cat-shaped rug or something 🤔 her absence was getting a tad suspicious.....

Omg!!! It looks so real! Great idea and an amazing job ❤….. I want one 😢

This came out so great! The curved arch really sells it.
Thank you! It’s my absolute favorite thing since I got more candle holders and battery operated candles.
Again, I doubted, and you nailed it. Well done!
We both doubted 😂
This is great! you could even get a fake burning log for it. Look up - "Pleasant Hearth L-20W Electric Crackling firelog" at walmart.
Yessss! I was totally thinking about a log or some sort of cool candelabra. Looking this up!
This is the best diy I've ever seen, seriously! No power tools, and it looks great! Thank you.
