Black Sabbath was the first band to be referred to as 'heavy metal'

  • @TheBlackQueen

This is ONE of the songs that Black Sabbath invented Metal with. This was actually their second album. Their self-titled debut was when Metal truly started! If you want to see where it all began, listen to the song Black Sabbath from their debut. That was the song that changed their sound as well as their name. Before it, they were a Jazzy-Blues band called Earth, but a factory incident that lead to guitarist Tony Iommi getting the tips of his fingers cut off resulted in him making false fingerstips made from plastic and leather. He attempted to play that way but it hurt so much and it didn't sound right for Blues, but the power chords sounded thick. Eventually learning to detune his guitar to make the sound thicker, Tony created a new sound which is now known as Heavy Metal.
As many will tell you, the singer is the legendary Ozzy Osbourne. This was where he got his start.

As I said before, you MUST react to their song Black Sabbath as that was the first true Heavy Metal song. But you should hear the story that went into making it first.
Bass guitarist Geezer Butler was one who was fascinated with witchcraft and black magic. He had an apartment with various pieces of occult imagery. One day, Ozzy came around and gave Geezer an old 15th Century-like Satanic book written in Latin. After reading through it, he began feeling strange. Going to bed that night, he put the book on a shelf next to his bed and went to sleep. He woke up in the middle of the night from a horrible nightmare, only to be met with a tall black figure at the foot of his bed, staring at him. Geezer was frightened by the sight and figure disappeared. Fearing for his soul, he went to the shelf where the book was so he could throw it away, but it vanished too.
This experience lead Geezer to tell his bandmates about it whom were all just as frightened. Ozzy then had his father forge 4 Crucifixes to be worn by the band around their neck to protect from evil spirits. Ozzy was then inspired to write a song about this event. That song was Black Sabbath, and it changed music forever.

Please do Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" especially the live 1970 performance. And realize that in 1970 they had not yet even invented the terms "Heavy Metal" music or "headbanging". Those terms were invented to describe Black Sabbath's music & Ozzy Osborne's performances !

First off, I'm glad to see a reaction. A bit of time had gone by and I was getting worried about ya! :) And your camera looks amazing, dude!
You have to remember this was back in the 70's so this was not what people were used to listening to. It was acid and weed all the way. I was teethed on Sabbath and they are the absolute best. I don't know what deaf people put a thumbs down emoji on this video. Whatevs.
    Try:
War Pigs (amazing message -- look at the lyrics)
    Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
    Killing Yourself To Live
    Into the Void
