Just wanted to say, I'm not a graphic designer, but I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and how much thought and creativity goes into designing. It's very impressive and fun to watch.
Now I'm studying Graphic Design in College for 4 years, my first year and I really hear a lot of good advice for future. As well - are you going to review or show anything about posters? Really interested about events posters etc.
Just found your channel, graphic design is a hobby I took up during the pandemic to learn something new. This ended up being very fun and I am now applying to study it further in uni. From what I’ve seen this channel is a really cool hub for beginners/experienced designers like me. Looking forward to getting involved and taking advice within the community.
One flaw with the Omegle logo. It's using SF Compact Rounded, which I'm sure is exclusive to using across Apple applications. Always check those licenses.
Who the hell watches your videos and didn't subscribe??!!! For Anyone reading, I have become a better designed watching and being subscribed to this guy
can we be reminded “rebrand” doesn’t always mean redesigning a logo, a rebrand can be re-design the brands look and feel. Mention Coca-Cola why would they want to it’s a recognised logo around world to the point the brand can crop their on a can people still know it’s Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola has history of development to the point where they just tweak it the script to be more bolder refined curves.
Amazing. I’m subbed to the subreddit and am on reddit daily, but haven’t seen any of these designs come up on my home page. What is reddit pushing on my homepage??
@@naomipaterson9300 I just noticed, your last name is Paterson. Are you and Will related? Husband Wife? Siblings, cousins etc? Or just a coincidence? Just curious.
Hi will My logo got 75 upvotes but still it wasn't featured here 😔 I really wanted your insights on my take on the Bacardi logo redesign. Please go through it and let me know your thoughts on it too.. Love your work!!
There literally is an "omega" in the logo of Omegle. Quite clever, not very tasteful design. Would like to see a redesign which incorporates the omega, but more subtle.
As a Graphic Designer myself I like many your videos but I do get an underlying tone of design snobbery and sense that you see your opinions as gospel. Design is subjective and there's often no single right answer. You often say people should simplify their designs and remove details but then call others generic and boring. Also calling a specific colour "great" without context is a very un-design aware statement, there are no good or bad colours only inappropriate and inappropriate uses.
@@willpatersondesign Then why does my Design Degree say Sheffield Institute of Art? I'm not trying to pick a fight but you know that statement's not true, you even describe yourself as a "hand lettering artist". Don't disrespect the Arts by saying something snappy for likes.
@@joshmcwalters That is weird. Where I'm from the qualifications don't have "art" in them. I wasn't picking a fight - I'm telling you the truth. You're commenting something that is just not true. I'm a hand lettering artist and graphic designer. Design is not art - although it can be artistic. I'm not being snobby, I'm just giving my thoughts so you can take them or leave them. Would love to see some graphic design painting if you have some though.
The one problem I have with your critiques are the somewhat hypocritical flip flopping you do with each designer. The hemp one (or hundreds of others you see) you say are too busy and if you shrink them down to the size of a dime you can’t identify them. But then the shoe logo with is loaded with linework you just love… which is why I think your constant argument about logos being super small and unreadable don’t hold any weight. But you can’t have it both ways. The shoe logo would be massively hard to see if it was super small…pick a lane.
As I understand design, it is not a one size fits all kind of thing. I'll use your examples to illustrate what I mean. The problem with the design of the bottle is that the bottle itself is already small so thin lines and/or complex designs are harder to read on a label like that. With the shoe logo, consider where you'd put it. The logos are huge on shoeboxes and while they can be small on the shoes, they won't be as small as the logo on the bottle so the thin lines don't disappear as easily giving the designer room for more detail. What you want from logo design varies on the product it is attached to. Your logo will be bigger on the takeout bag of a fast food place than it would be on the frame of a pair of sunglasses so you can get more detail on a fast food logo (they are more modern and minimalistic now but you can see the complexity of older versions like Burger King) than you could get on the frames of sunglasses (Oakley for instance just has an O). I hope that was a decent enough explanation.
Not flip flopping - being simple is important. But legibility and uniqueness has also got some bearing. It's more of a balancing act rather than a hard and fast rule. Looking at your comments on the channel it's just what I expected - three years of negativity towards me and how I produce videos and show the audience my process. If you don't like the videos and have nothing nice to say, stop watching them. Your comments are what I talked about in the last community post - go check it out.
Do whatever you please with your art. This over simplification is becoming a cancer in design community and i think everyone should pursue their unique style of art

I was wondering... How do you deal with shitty brand or company names? Do you feel a shitty name can sometimes hurt the overall design?
I love this series
A huge thank you for this great content!
Great comments as always lot of information sharing ..worth the watch.. Will
Yeassss do more of these pleasee
I will definitely post a logo on your Reddit at some point. I hope you have a sense of humour because it is a bit tongue in cheek.
Please do! :)
The Omegle one is fairly similar to the netfix default profile icons.

I think the original omegle logo is great
How old is this video? I didn't see any of this in the reddit :D

Feel like the shoe logo was a bit too much with the horizontal lines.

is branding science or art?
AV logo is read as “ill”
Why should not the omegle logo be pre black?
It’s like zoom??? Yeah, no..

It is Foot Ball not soccer, jajajajajaja CORRECT
