@@christopherp.1391 The difference is not obvious at 4K at all. In fact it depends on what game your playing for the 7800x3d to even take the lead in performance. Not all games benefit greatly from extra cache. The majority of games just want high IPC and clock speeds.
The big gains with the x3D come from virtual reality under heavy loads. There is improvement in most games on the x3d lineup but it’s going to be aligned more to frame latency which is mostly noticed in vr applications.
@Thomas Shears it has to do with the limitations that were poorly implemented if you want to get a 7000 x3d chip give it a month and update the bios asap,

I think that was a fail for the 7800x3D. Its cache after all doesn't make a big difference for the GPU utilization. A bit, sometimes, but overall the "bottleneck" is truly elsewhere (clock speed, architecture, etc). And many fps did not change, or they changed in a completely irrelevant way (like 143 to 176). A few of those differences might look cool (elsewhere there are none), they are pretty silly, useless differences, except for very specific monitor situations. The real differences can only be seen in something like 80 vs 110 fps. And for that, again, a smaller GPU would be a more practical benchmark choice to make a buying decision about as clear as it can be.
9:30 You can get constant 240+ fps or hit the 300 fps cap all the time in FIRING RANGE. But with that same gpu+cpu, the amount of fps you get on the edge sides of the map in an actual match can be less than 190 because the game will be rendering the whole map which results in a HUGE fps drop. (It's how it works in Apex Legends) So next time do your tests in actual matches instead of firing range.

I have both and I can’t say I agree with the conclusion here. You’re not going to notice the difference at all at 4K and doubtfully (at best rarely) at 1440p. Fomo is real and everything but practically speaking you’re better off with the more money in your pocket.

I paired a 4090 with a 7600 and reduce the wattage of the gpu until I have a good-enough framerate in the game I'm playing, Forza Horizon 120fps = ca. 38% Wattage = My whole system only draws about 260 Watts and stays very cool... For Cyberpunk maxed out and any future games , I can go to 111%. The Palit software is really good for this with the Gamerock 4090, it goes from 34% to 111% and you can save several profiles for different games. With 48% the 4090 matches my previous card, a 3080TI, which was frankly fast enough (but was less efficient and not as easily configurable)

Don't understand the upscaling at 1440p. That will skew results to the X3D as that CPU will give you better 1080p results which you should never run on a 4090.
@@PcCentric While that may be true. To the CPU it is the same as running the game at 1080p and then the GPU upscales it. Therefore, for a CPU test it should not be used.

The CPUs serve GPUs to a very similar degree. It's more that the 7800x3D can crank out more (often useless) frames in games with extra CPU-demand (by somehow striking a better balance thanks to cache).

The big gains with the x3D come from virtual reality under heavy loads. There is improvement in most games on the x3d lineup but it’s going to be aligned more to frame latency which is mostly noticed in vr applications.
@Thomas Shears it has to do with the limitations that were poorly implemented if you want to get a 7000 x3d chip give it a month and update the bios asap,
I annot find anny benchmarks about vr about the 5800x3d or this 7800x3d chip. Cos it seems every simracer wants a 5800x3d for iracing and ac. So wat is this frame latecncy doing exactly? And is it less noticeble then having a lower fps cap in vr cos u pull less frames?

I'm so glad you cover this. Was wondering the same thing🎉
0:21 all those finger oils will affect heat dissipation. Clean it with isopropyl alcohol before applying your thermal paste and cooler.

Love your video’s!! Very informative and fun too!! What’s your opinion on the AMD and ASUS dust up? Should we go with another motherboard?

I went with the 7x3d paired with a 7800 xt oc all game with ray tracing maxed out doesn’t go under 50fps usually with higher demanded games it’s 55 to 70 everything maxed out. Very happy with my setup.
My concerns have been addressed, I will stick with my Ryzen 7 7700. I can satisfactorily play DOOM 2016 and all older versions of DOOM 3. Thanks for the nice show.
Got my 7700x, with x670e mobo, and 32 of DDR5 6000 RAM for $500 USD (Newegg deal). Very happy with my current rig (7900XT for the GPU). Will more than likely upgrade the CPU to the last 3D chip made for AM5 and leave it at that for a while, with maybe a GPU upgrade in 3-4 years.

as someone with an 8700k and 4070 ti the upgrade is tempting lmao
Don't understand the upscaling at 1440p. That will skew results to the X3D as that CPU will give you better 1080p results which you should never run on a 4090.
There's no reason not to use DLSS quality, it's free FPS and the quality is indistinguishable at 1440 and 4k
@@PcCentric While that may be true. To the CPU it is the same as running the game at 1080p and then the GPU upscales it. Therefore, for a CPU test it should not be used.
@@PcCentricdlss quality is very noticeable even at 4k.

As of typing out this comment, the x3d is $380 and the 7700x is $350. Is it worth it to get the x3d or just save the $30 and just get the 7700x?
I have the same question. But I think I’m going to go with the regular 7700 without the X boost. The lower wattage at 65W is just what I want. I’ll hold off on the X3D until the next evolution of AM5 sometime in 2025 or 2026.
Nice comparison!
For gaming the 3D chip is good especially if you have a fast GPU but if you are a content creator and light streamer get the non 3D variants
The CPUs serve GPUs to a very similar degree. It's more that the 7800x3D can crank out more (often useless) frames in games with extra CPU-demand (by somehow striking a better balance thanks to cache).
Just wondering - do you miss not having a usb port on the case? I really like the design of it, but I want to be sure I won’t feel like I’m missing out.
Would a Radeon RX 7800 XT be a good GPU to pair with the 7800x3D ?

Hi there, in my opinion no, that CPU is way too overpowered for that GPU. It would be better matched with the R5 7600.
Those few extra frames really don't matter. Save your money and spend it on a better graphics card.

same point also exists comparing 2-3 generations of gpu's starting at 8GB, 16GB and 24GB, though until we see gpu's greater than 128/256/512GB or1+TB increments ...
whilst increasing ram frequency may fix bottleneck in testing resolution and fps in a interim fashion when is quantity of gpu going to increase to fix overheads that that has plagued the igpu ndustry the last 15-20 years
I think until we start 128GB -1TB cards present in the market place it is hard to see we will be at in future because we've been needing past 24GB just to to support 4khdr, 8k, dolby vision and dolby atmos and any other high bandwidth for both FPS and resolutions you are fighting in the last 5 years see no point in graphical testing because the bottleneck has always been the quantity of ram not its speed it obtains per clock cycle
current gpu's with a graphical update to pc games of between 95-05 the current generation gpu's may be fine in running though looking just at the pc gaming of the last 5 years ever a, aa and aaa title you can name has had to be patched to run on lack of ram gpu's
looking at what it costs to scrub streaming content for streaming i wonder is what we have in gpu's at 24GB just isn't enough today let alone the future of gaming at 24GB
