    Fantastic video- certainly ironed out a few gremlins in my approach- loved the tip Flaps- Gear - Flaps- ie half flaps first, as well as the tip not to chase the ILS at 1200' - thanks

      Is it though? At 5:28 Chazflys makes the radio call "established" and then hears his own virtual pilot make the real call "301, established angels 8, state 6.2". I'm not sure why you would install a program like Viacom if you didn't want to make the full call yourself and set the program to block your own pilot's voice so you don't hear them repeating the same thing you just said.
      Which the program can do. You can set it that way. The problem is it's not very good at capturing that "established" key word from the middle of the "301 established angels 8, state 6.2" call. So you often have to repeat yourself a second time and just say "established!" so the program can understand you. Sometimes it even takes 2 or 3 times of saying "established" depending on the tone of your voice at the time.
      Another problem is everyone else in multilayer with you still hears the virtual pilot's voice. And not only do they hear it, they hear it at the exact same time as the AI ATC response, so all your buddies hear two AIs talking over top of each other.
      I'm not sold on voice recognition software for flight simming yet.

      You can customize the PTT so people online (SRS) do not hear you.

      @@CallsignJoNay You can train Windows Voice Recognition to your voice. Voice Attack uses microsofts built in Voice algorithm which you NEED to train for best results. Takes like 15 minutes

    • @poiu477
      @poiu477 3 года назад

      @@CallsignJoNay I feel like a lot of people making claims like this just installed a program and expected it to work without training. That's impossible. Even Siri and Alexa are constantly training based off of data and your voice.

    Nice video. Thanks for taking to time to make it. You say 'continue maintaining lateral navigation with the localiser'. While the localiser bar in the center of the FPM tells you you are on the localiser course, you may not be heading towards the boat. I understand that by centring the localiser, then 'turning' to the correct course (think here its 109), you are in the correct lateral state. Do you use any other cue on the HUD to know (apart from the heading tape), you are also on the correct heading?. I hope this question makes sense.

    • @chazflyz
      @chazflyz  3 года назад +1

      Good question. The localizer needle itself won't indicate if you are flying to or from the source. However, having a co-located TACAN source with DME (distance measuring equipment) can corroborate if you are flying to or from the boat (or airfield). Distance gets smaller, you are going TO. Distance gets bigger, you are flying away.
      Also, with TACAN, you can see the source on your SA page. On the HUD, you will see a bearing pointer (arrow shaped) pointing to or from the station. I hope that answers your question.

    on another topic..were the F-18 DDI's brighter awhile back? I'm pretty new to the plane, but on a sunny day they are too dim, hard to read. I read that a recent update wasn't good for cockpit lighting in general

    • @chazflyz
      @chazflyz  4 года назад

      Yeah i believe they were brighter. I took the summer off from DCS and only recently got back into it. The first thing I noticed after updating it was the DDIs were dimmer. I think it's been reported. We'll see if it gets updated again.

    Many thanks for this, it was very helpful in answering so very basic questions that i had. Not least of which was (and i didn't even know i needed this) how to switch on and of the RWR ! A question if i may, if the radial for marshal was not on the BRC, at what point would you move CRS over to BRC ?

    • @chazflyz
      @chazflyz  4 года назад

      Thanks glad it helped. Are you familiar with Chuck's Guides? If not simply google it. Go to his DCS Hornet Guide. Page 337. Case 3 recovery. There is a diagram depicting the marshal radial 30 degrees off the Final bearing. When you leave the marshal stack and turn toward the final bearing, that is the best time to set your course select to the final bearing.

    What is your technique for timing the hold to get the exact push time?

    • @chazflyz
      @chazflyz  4 года назад

      Long answer.... Best way to manage the hold is based on your ground speed. Your GS displayed on the SA/HSI page. Example if you're at 300 knots, that would be 5 miles per minute
      300/60. 60 seconds per minute...
      If you enter the hold with 10 minutes to push, you could time it to 2 holding circuits. There are 4 segments per hold. 2 turns and 2 straight legs. 5/4=1.25. Time each segment to 1 minute 15 seconds or the turns at 1 minute and the inbound and outbound legs at 1 minute 30 seconds.
      Or... 1 big circuit 10/4=2.5 minutes per segment.

    • @Plydrms
      @Plydrms 4 года назад +1

      @@chazflyz thank you! that is a lot of head work and probably has to be constantly re-evaluated. I'm trying to work out the time in turns. 30degs bank takes about 1.5mins to complete 180degs turn. Could you just use time? Like in your example: 1min turns(easy math) x2...then each leg 4mins?...8+2=10mins to go

    • @chazflyz
      @chazflyz  4 года назад

      @Plydrms Yes it is some head work, but I'm only speaking from civilian flying experience. I don't know US Navy/military procedures.
      I think to keep it even simpler. Lets say you have 10 minutes to push. Split it in 2 parts. the outbound segment and inbound. Simply fly outbound (the first turn and straight leg) for 5 minutes, then turn back inbound. If the wind is not very strong, you should arrive at the IP by push time. But if the wind is significant, you would need to watch your push time and adjust your groundspeed accordingly.

    • @Plydrms
      @Plydrms 4 года назад +1

      @@chazflyz Cool. I tried a 45deg bank angle, which took about 1min to complete 180deg of turn @ 250kts. I guess you could do: 1min + 4mins + 1min +4mins..zero wind. I can't imagine getting this consistently within 10seconds.

      My observations for carrier ops: 1) On "Inbound" call, reply is: "cancel approach, go to reserve field". Seems like other ship in convoy is answering instead of carrier using the same radio frequency. 2) "See you at 10"- no reply/not working. 3) "Ball" or "Hornet ball"- no reply/not working.
