In my very humble opinion... best Stevie Wonder track that's overlooked. The musicianship is sublime - it overwhelms me with joy every time. Like EVERY TIME!!
Heard this on the radio today in my car.....sun was shining and made me realise how wonderful life can be......so here i am playing it at home on here. Njoy people
Yeah, I was unfamiliar with Stevie Wonder's music, fell in love with this so was looking for other recommended songs and found lists of 20+ songs that didn't include Do I Do. What the hell? It's easily up there with Sir Duke and the like. I get nothing but amazing positive energy from this song and I never get tired of listening to it.
Love that Stevie Wonder presented Mr. Dizzy Gillepsie, such an honor here that blow that trumpet. Such a collaboration of musical geniuses coming together.
I dreamt about this song last night. Was driving in a brand new car in someplace I'd never been and this was playing on the radio. Didn't even know the name of the song but I found it!
My mother loved this song so much , we did a live band tribute to her with this song at her Celebration of Life ceremony. I always think of her when I hear this. I miss her beyond words.
The arrangement is telling it what it feeling like to have that level and passion. Gifted to have had translated that into scores. I would be interested in knowing what came first. I have to be careful when I listen to this. Its the greatest anytime everytime. rockwthpat23
Any musician worth his salt would be proud as can be to have written this song, and only this song. Stevie Wonder has written so many fantastic songs that most people don’t even know this song. Just amazing. Thanks Stevie!
My former co-worker and I used to dance off of this song all of the time, and the fun and cute part was he was a little younger than me, but he liked old school n music. That was my dancing partner on the job. They used to play music in the cafeteria, and everytime that song came on, we got up and danced. The good old days at work. ThisIs one of my favorite songs by Stevie Wonder ❤🔥😎🎼🎵🎶
If this song does not lift one's spirits, nothing will: Another brilliant example of Wonder's highly diverse musical exposure, likewise, creating a gem such as this. He has a verse, chorus, bridge, then throws in a rap ! The man never cease to amaze me, and it still sounds as thrilling as it did 41 years ago !
I met this Genius in Dallas,Tx, in 1990! He,s the complete package, composer, singer, arranger, and multi- instrumentalist, a true God given Wonder, pun intended!! Love ya Stevie, a fan for over 50 year,s! Clayton
Played this with the Paramount Theater Orchestra on keyboards, 24 piece band in Seattle back in the 80's. Most fun ever on stage. We opened for the "GAP band" when they did two shows up in the PNW. It was a high when we jammed it onstage. Great arrangement. Especially when the horns kicked in and the bass player & rhythm section led us home. Good times....
Mostly for local churches and trying to produce my own sound in a home studio. Stuck doing IT support most days, however for a small firm with 12 offices in LA area. Pays for more equipment at least. Uploads to my YT channel for the thrill of it. Practicing almost daily when I get home and not too tired...pragmatism, of course. Music balances my life and energy, still. Thanks for asking.
I swear to God I played this on my way to church yesterday and my heart was filled with happiness. When I got to church I thanked God for stevie and music like this. 100% true story
I'm very proud of the fact that in the year 2020 the genius Stevie Wonder will turn 70 on the same day as I turn 50 (13th of may). Long live Stevie - and me ;)
OHHHH! 😄😄😄😄😄 I simply don't possess the vocabulary to communicate how perfect this song is, the joy, the pure, unbridled joy it suffuses your heart and soul with... Thank You for this and sooo many others and God bless you Stevie 🥰
As a young child, Stevie gave me the gift of music and piano. I took it and ran with it!! Well into my 40s now and still creating music and still pounding on the keys and continue to do so until I drop down!
Controversial, possibly, but this may well be Stevie's best track ever. An uber-produced hard funk / high disco masterpiece. The sheer WORK that went into this is astonishing. The trumpet - harmonica solo section is out of this world.
I say the 15 year period between about 1972-1987, with classics ranging from "Superstition" to "Sir Duke" to "Master Blaster" and into the mid '80's "Part Time Lover" are among the handful of best diverse collection of songs any musician in the Pop/R&B format has ever done IMO. Mr. Wonder's songs were ranging from Rock, Funk, Reggae and even early forms of New Jack Sound in this song. What is sad is that even as big as Stevie has been, for over 50 years, he still kind of underrated to along the other legends such as the Beatles, Elvis, Elton John even Prince and Micheal J. Not to mention, being among the first Music Superstars to use a synthesizer on a regular basis as well, which was groundbreaking in the early 1970's.
Thanks for posting!! I love this song! My favorite part is: "Ladies and gentlemen I have the pleasure to present on my album, Mr. Dizzy Gillespie.... BLOW!!! Blow, blow, blow, blow, blow, blow!" 😁
Missing All my deceased family members during this time of the year!!! They use to tear this song up on the dancefloor.... Ty for this fabulous song Mr.Wonder and Ty for posting it .....❤❤❤❤Great Memories!!!
I don't know what it is about this song..but every time I hear it, I feel more and more convinced that Stevie just might have written this for MJ. The orchestration, even the delivery of the vocals...all I hear is MJ on this particular track. Another excellent creation from the maestro himself. Gotta love Stevie..
Gosh, I love Master Dizzy Gillespie so much, my heart aches for him. He's long gone, but he'll be loved and remembered. God bless Dizzy and God bless Mr. Stevie Wonder, the ultimate genius!
This man and the rest of the musicians and vocalists on this cut are JAMMIN!!!! As a bass player myself I must give many props to Nate Watts on this one,he is playing the hell out of that Music Man Sting Ray bass!!!
I only wish he’d been better mic’d, and placed louder in the mix! He sounds so quiet. In his last few decades, he lost the ability to play loud over a band.
This record jams from start to finish....the Bass line is ridiculously expert...great dance song...this gem has been hot since day 1 and is like finding an old friend:)
Stevie Wonder has music that touches your soul and lyrics that speak to your heart. There will never be another Stevie Wonder. He can not be duplicated. My favorite artist of all time. Stevie you are truly a WONDER.
"Do I Do" played during an aunt's wedding reception, and my West African ancestors spoke through my dance. It was totally impromptu. My movements felt effortless, as if my hips, legs, arms, torso and head weren't my own. I was absorbed in bliss -- happiness for the bride and groom and everyone present ... and, of course, the ancestors, who are ever-present. Love you Mommy, and I dedicate "Do I Do" to you, as you loved SO much to dance! Mmmwaaahhh up to heaven ... Thanks for posting, johnniewalker23!
Who TF have this a thumbs down?! Stevie... Dizzy... Best bass solos maybe ever?? My favorite Stevie track, and it's hard to choose. People never cease to amaze.

I love this song especially the part at the end where he's trying to rap. Hip hop was new at the time. I love how he was having fun with it. Then to hear Ja Rule and Case sample it for Livin' It Up was amazing!
I was born in the 90's, but both my parents introduced me to old-school while I was growing up. We lost legends that gave the world real meaning of music with real meaningful lyrics. I felt so depressed when Whitney, Michael, and Prince passed away, but Stevie...he is my inspiration.

I'm 75 years young and still love all Stevie's music, especially this song, Do I Do! I can listen to it over and over and still makes me want to dance❤
One of the best songs ever made! The composition is just so genius! Every single element works well with each other. I can't pick a favorite part but that bassline is wicked!
when i heard this recording for the first time and Stevie goes: "May I present to you a special feature, DIZZY GILLESPIE" i jumped out of my seat. Two of the all time greats, a wonderful sound to hear.
To me this is the best Stevie Wonder song. The musicality of the musicians was amazing. Then add Stevie Wonder's singing and Dizzy Gillespies' trumpet playing, it's absolute perfection. It's such a romantic song as well. There's the serious love declarions mixed in with the sappy honeysuckle chocolate dripping kisses. The end rap is so cute as well because he admits he doesn't do it well. He's such an amazing artist.
I saw Stevie in 1974 at The Rainbow in London. The first concert I ever went to. Amazing, totally amazing. He teased the audience by playing the first few bars of a song, everyone would cheer then he would play something else. You could not tell what would come next.
Super and another of my favorites-outstanding with the Great Dizzy Gillespie! so upbeat from the greatest the one and only Stevie Wonder who had greater sight than we who have the sight for he saw so deeply into the soul and brings joy to millions with his songs that strike deep and bring joy but also help you work through times of sorrow!

They are absent in the body, but in the presents of GOD. WHO spared them from the worse of the worst.
Priceless Magic, FOR CERTAIN.
I just love all of the real instruments playing in these songs, the great lyrics, andcthe beautiful voices.
You need a 1000 thumbs up for this comment.
In a time when most artists were spurning brass and using synths, Stevie stayed with the real soul of real instruments.
Stevie Wonder is my music icon! he is awesome, you can Groove and chill with his musical vibe ...! A blind man, who see nothing but see so much, very wise and great . I grew up on this music here !
