You build a relationship with a piece of gear, interacting with it, it’s part of the team. Much different than using a computer. Been making music for 25 years, computer has always just been a really nice digital tape recorder in my studio.

Men you are right about just enjoying things. People tend to be so focussed on productivity and succes. But seeing you enjoy this synth and reflect on life really made my evening. And you know what, life really sucks, so never let other people try to take away the joy of things you like!

I’m mostly a singer-songwriter/guitarist, but I played the Minifreak in a store and couldn’t stop playing it. It brought me back to the pure joy of making cool sounds. I am writing an album and know it will be useful for that, but beside that it felt great to be inspired by a piece of hardware again. I went back and forth between the obviously cheaper softsynth version. But tweaking knobs and dialing in a sound was half the fun so I went with the hardware version.

Your humility and sincerity really resonated, man. I’ve really been bitten by the bug and I’m considering getting my first synth, and you’re the first content creator to suggest getting a soft-synth to test the waters with a DAW. Of course, I want a hardware synth, but I bet I could get a lot of enjoyment out of a very small investment. I enjoyed you and your thoughtful take on things - I’m looking forward to future videos, man.

Haven’t wanted another piece of gear since the the Maschine Plus, I got the Sp MK2 purely out of GAS and wasn’t putting myself in the practice mindset pushing myself to get around the learning curve…I enjoyed it a little and then sold it, realizing I have plenty to learn from my M+ & MicroFreak, I really want the minifreak, I love the upgrade and I won’t ever sell the micro because it was my first piece of gear ever. re: your message around the 12:00 mark - you can give some random person all the top end mechanical tools needed to make a car run, but without training that person won't gain any real benefit. But, in the hands of someone that knows what they are doing, those fancy tools can be a gamechanger. I think that applies to synthesizers wholeheartedly.

I think it’s important for an instrument to inspire you and bring fun! One synth that brought this to me was the microkorg :) if you find you keep playing on something, it’s worth every penny! I have an America Strat plus that’s been with me for nearly 30 years! play it all the time! I have a habit of spending more time playing than recording :) I strongly believe a synth can bring someone something that I call sound therapy! it just helps take you away from life and put you in a zone that has no focus on anything :) you just play

It's a nice sounding synth for the price. The Minifreak V Hybrid plugin is only $99 too. 👍There really are a lot of great synths under 1K these days. Some I would suggest to others: Hydrasynth Explorer, Korg Minilogue, Korg Wavestate, Arturia Minifreak, Arturia Microfreak, Korg Opsix, etc. Slightly above 1K the Sequential Take 5 and Moog Grandmother sound pretty awesome too.
I'm working on an album too. I seem to go back and forth between writing/recording on my MPC Live 2 OR using laptop + DAW. I enjoy both methods though. The DAW feels like more of a blank canvas to do anything but my Live 2 is an arsenal of creativity with custom made keygroups/instruments, expansions, plugins, etc.
I'm having fun and trying to let the writing come naturally. I find I produce the best music when I'm most care free. If it's a two minute instrumental, 4 minute acoustic/pop punk song, or 7 minute ambient, spacey journey I'm fine with anything that comes out.
Just be you is all you can do. ✌️
