Darren, I'm a 33 yr black man, my parents immigrated here and growing up in this country was the best thing ever until the last 7 years. Your voice gave me hope that there are people that can see what the media is doing. Thank you
It’s not about you personally - British people are on the whole pretty fair and tolerant and take people as we find them but it’s about numbers and about clashing cultural values. The demographic change - and consequent effects - is unprecedented in history. Britain has its own identity, culture and yes ethnicity. We’re not some global marketplace open for everyone. Surely you can understand why so many people are hacked off about it? Lee Rigby, Manchester Arena, Salman Rushdie, teachers in hiding, mobs running around in the streets with machetes, shoplifting gangs, organised crime gangs trafficking their workers over. You’re maybe not old enough to remember what Britain used to be like. We didn’t know what jihad meant, we didn’t see women waking around in burqas, we didn’t see kids armed with machetes in broad daylight. Can you really not understand at all???
Please keep that hope going because the majority of people in this Country would definitely agree with this man, he certainly deserves a pat on the back.
I'm a 45 yr old white male, born in Spain, no Spanish bloodline, all family messed up because of WW2 (parents born in Argentina) but I have Norwegian and German bloodlines. During covid I freely risked my life and continued to do my job for my community working in suicide prevention as well as GP surgeries that were designated a "hot" centres. I love the United Kingdom and all it's people regardless of where they are from. I care the people around me that have the same struggles as everybody else.
Thankfully Darren speaks for the majority. This is what Great Britain is, and has been for decades. The minority faction has gained share of voice through social media, but they are a fringe faction. The media gives them too much oxygen to amplify their vitriolic message because, sadly, that is how media corporations and social media behemoths make their money. Clickbait headlines are their biggest moneyspinners. Here’s to amplifying love and humanity instead! ❤
I'm British with Afro-Carribbean grandparents. My grandparents celebrated their birthplace in music, food, and sports. I celebrate my own birthplace, the UK. Immigration is the same around the world. The children and grandchildren integrate deeper into their birthplace. The same thing happened to British and Irish immigrants who went to the USA and Australia 200 years ago.

Also consider this. Even when the empire was at large, the IWW still sides with colonised people like my family for instance, despite never even having seen them Even back then, people knew the issue was the super rich exploiting everyone. A lot of so called "Patriots" don't know their own history, or even know that most British Pakistanis in the UK also have relatives that fought against the fascists too.
The caller is a passionate cosmopolitan and he sounds uplifting and inspiring and he hasn't realised that other races don't think like that, far from it and if you let the rest of the world into your homeland guess what, its not your homeland anymore and you yourself become the unwelcome one in now somebody else's new homeland. Very basic stuff, Craig wake up quickly.

@@stanh9521Have you spoken to anyone on these so called far right protests? Most, I except not all, but must think the same way as this gentleman, that's what sad about all this, we probably have more in common than you think? But there are some serious concerns about a big majority of people that are coming into this country now. We don't know who they are or what their intentions are? We have lost control and is that's dangerous thing. When my kids go out to concert or to hang out with there friends it's not the so called far right I'm worried about, and there is genuine reasons for that. This guy made me cry as a black British woman born to Nigerian parents who one is a nurse and another a bio chemist in this country, I felt the realness from this man ❤
My Mum died very recently, and its been really hard as there are so many things to sort out. I had her phone (latest iPhone) with loads of sentimental pictures on and lost it, and it wasnt locked. I had little hope of getting it back. It was found in the street by a Muslim man who called me from her phone to tell me and held onto it for a few days. When I went to pick it up, he offered my children fruits and sweets. What a lovely old gent. We had a nice chat... He emigrated here from Egypt, and he was telling me about his grown children... A lawyer, a GP doctor, a police man and a nurse all in the UK. AND PEOPLE THINK HE IS A PROBLEM! 😔
No, you are twisting things. People are fed up with the boat folk coming and invading and getting given everything. They are allowed on the streets with machetes, knives etc and nothing is done
@rosemarie-karma you got your information wrong. Also, do you think they are risking their life travelling on a boat to come here and live on government money?! No, no ones come for that... they come for a better life and opportunities... Majority of them are living in countries where there is war...war for which England is contributing. How little minded can you be?!
Sad. Britishness is not a list of values whomever agrees with. Nationality is not an abstraction. The caller, the men in Southport you deride and everyone in between are British. What is Britishness? That which British people do. What is a British person? A person born in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
It's about time someone put it as it really is. It's just factual and self evident that mass immigration helps the poorest in society, and we need more Darren's to let it be known.
I was walking my fairly large but soppy dog the other day when a mother in a hijab passed with her children. One of the children was nervous of my pooch, the other clearly wanted to pet him. I calmly walked over and said my dog is fine and both children ended up stroking my dog. Got chatting to the young mother, commented on her very beautifully designed headscarf and asked about her heritage. She told me she was Afghan and fled the Taliban and whilst loved the UK felt a bit lonely as most people ignore or avoid her. I then said if you ever see me or my wife with the dog, come and say hello. Ended with as salam alaykum and she smiled and replied Alaikun Salaam. Can't imagine how difficult being a young mother alone in a new country must be and kindness knows no race or creed
Brilliant caller. I listened twice. As a black man who was born in this country, I’ve never really felt part of it. There was always an underlying feeling of not really being British because of how I was treated. Being around people like Darren would have changed that. I’m so glad he exists. Had me in tears and challenged me to be a better man in my community.
I'm terribly sorry you've been made to feel that way. When we were little my oldest friend & me were playing outside in a small park. A woman came up to us & screamed at my friend that she had to go back to the country she was born in. Me being an idiot* tried to tell that bigot that she was born in the hospital in the city nearby, which of course was useless, because bigots are going to bigot. What kind of grown woman goes to shout at a couple of little girls in a park? Yes, the bleeebs are vocal, but they aren't the majority. Perhaps we should speak up more... I'll try to do that, because the feeling that it's going backwards is too horrific to contemplate. * i claim youth as an excuse

Darren you are a legend . I'm a black woman now 65 years old I've been here all my life born and breed . And all the things he said reminded me of my childhood. My parents came here in the late 50s. My best friends we're white and are still to this day. Me mixed, we partied, ate at each other's houses. We we're neighbours and friends and the colour of our skin didn't matter. We had each others back.
Imagine growing up in a country all your life, only to be continuously told, 'Go back to your own country, you're not wanted here.' Keep in mind, you have done nothing wrong-just trying to live your life as an ordinary person in these challenging times. As a Black British Jamaican man, I agree wholeheartedly with this gentleman and welcome his sentiment. The racial divide is a diversion from the real perpetrators who construct systems that lead to the misfortunes people complain about. We are ALL the same, regardless of skin colour. I’m not ashamed to admit I shed a little tear after hearing this. Salute to bro.
I just happened to tune into LBC this afternoon and heard this bloke's call. I think I'll remember it for the rest of my days. He is the epitome of what a proper working class Brit should be. A wonderful human being.
Me too. So frustrating this week with the poison, the vitriol, the misdirected anger and the violence that has occurred this week. Brought tears to my eyes too. Open minded - a willingness to understand people and get to know people. The sort of violence that we've seen and the threatened behaviour and rallies are uncomfortably reminiscent of the east end in the 1930s.

My late white working class dad who fought in WWII had the same mindset as Darren-it’s not culture war it’s class war. Its the people in the super yachts and their tax avoidance schemes we should be protesting about Darren-you are a true patriot
@@Ophelia2474No it really is about class. Who is funding Farage? His supporters with Reform memberships? Or big donors spending millions. Same for Robinson. Same for GB news. Very wealthy people driving an agenda. Why do they want us to leave the ECHR when it’s not standing in our way on immigration? Oh yeah that also gets rid of your rights as an employee. That stops them making the UK the sweatshop of Europe. The ownership class want to divide and get people to vote against their best interests.

For me it was it was my great grandfather who was working class and fought in WWII, but he would have been cheering Darren on, apart from being a republican that is. He raised five lovely children who knew where to put the blame, and it wasn't immigrants, who raised their children with those values. This idea that these thugs get to speak for everyone, including the three generations of my family is deeply offensive. They might think they're the majority in their little online bubbles but they just lost an election because they are not the majority, not even close. They don't get co-opt the language of patriotism and unity and pretend there's a silent majority behind them because they're just wrong. I have three generations of British family all varying levels of furious to sickened right now who all agree with my late great grandfather's British values and the Darrens of this world.
It was OK for people to riot over the 100s of years of oppression though wasn't it? It's just not allowed now. The last thing i read about was the Irish riots........very violent and the mob against the establishment. But there was no other way for the Irish people to gain back their independence.

I worked in a textile mill in the early 70’s and befriended a lad who’d recently arrived from Bangladesh. Sadly he was treated badly by the vast majority of his fellow workers. Hate to think what happened to him after I left. He was very vulnerable.

That's what it's about. That's Britain and the British.

My Grandfather immigrated to the UK in the 1960's, he was born in 1939. After his country Cyprus gained independence, he left his home, he left his family and everything he knew to come to the UK. He worked 70 hours a week to build his tailoring business so my family could be comfortable and happy. However last year he went to his old home for the last time (due to a back injury shortly after) and on the way back he an 86 year old man was questioned why he had an english passport when he had a greek accent and name. It spoiled what was a wonderful holiday. 64 years of being a british citizen and that was the first time he was ever spoken to like that. Infact during the Cypriot emergency he was treated with more respect from the british army when he was one of the people pushing for Cypriot independance. He crawled so me and my family could run and I know for a fact there are thousands if not tens of thousands of other immigrants who are doing the same thing for their communties and families right now even when under the threat of violence.

Faith in humanity restored. This is what it means to be British.
This man speaks for the real Brits
But he simply doesn't does he. Poll after poll for the last twenty years has revealed the public want immigration reduced even with pro left propagandists like lbc telling them otherwise
Britishness is not a list of values whomever agrees with. Nationality is not an abstraction. The caller, the men in Southport you deride and everyone in between are British. What is Britishness? That which British people do. What is a British person? A person born in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Well said my old china, well said. ...proud of yer.
That is real British values not rioting and looting shops
What were the Toxteth (Liverpool) and the Brixton (London) 1981 riots about then? Were they about real British values?
@@T.P.33 Bringing up examples of the “other side” rioting doesn’t prove what you think it proves. All it proves is that anyone rioting, regardless of colour or creed, is pointless and harmful.
I heard this live, and it made me cry. I've heard the clip several times since and it's made me cry each time. Now it's come up in my suggestions and I'm crying again. Darren is exactly what it should be to be British . Not these yobs running around under the cover of darkness robbing, looting, damaging property and frightening already frightened people, not the Tommy Robinsons, not the Nigel Farages. The British people are Darren. At a time when I felt hopeless after those beautiful little girls were murdered in Southport and I watched as my country went up in flames because of hateful, mindless, opportunists, and I couldn't have felt more ashamed, Darren let me know I'm not alone, gave me back my hope and made me proud again. Then, just when I thought I couldn't get more emotional, a Muslim man who felt he had to take his family and leave Britain - the country of his birth - because of the hatred, phoned in and wanted to buy Darren and his family dinner. That's what it's about. That's Britain and the British.
That's a wonderful post. Thank you so much for it. We're all here for such a short time, and we can all be gifts to each other. Why waste time on hate and bile and lies? Why not be like Darren and find that others can immeasurably enrich our lives?
We're just like you Darren mate, there are a lot of us, thank you for being the best caller EVER!!!
My London ❤
My England ❤
My UK ❤💙❤️
1st generation born in the UK
Raising our 2nd generation in the only home they will ever know
After all of last week's riots, it's nice to hear what being a Londoner is all about 😘
Darren, from a British Muslim brother to another brother from another mother ❤❤❤. I feel you in everything you’ve said and more.
I love everything about this guy ❤
Best caller ever. He embodies what it means to be British. I say this as a second gen Muslim immigrant. 🇬🇧 is probably the best country to grow up in terms of culture and we are more fair & tolerant society. This is the reason we attract a lot of talented people around the world.
Beautiful, logic at last! ❤
I heard this live. Darren is a touch of class. Well said. Thanks Shelagh for letting him speak at such length.
@alangray6961 you nailed it…”Darren is a touch of class”.
Yeah didnt challenge him at all if he cares about childing dying for the sake of virtue signalling about diversity.
I am a foreigner living in UK , raising my foreigners children to become the best UK citizens, by working hard and participating in the growth and prosperity of the UK , to help everyone else even they are not muslim it doesn't matter the religion the race or the color because we are all human beings and we should treat eachother with respect and love. UK is our home and we care about it's stability.
My children don't know any other country apart from UK when we visit our family in my country of origin I feel sorry for them because they fell like foreigners.
You are British!
Welcome, you're one of us now.

The quality of this man's INTEGRITY AND CHARACTER shines through!
As a british muslim woman I needed to hear this. What an amazing caller.
We don’t hear enough of this type of talk and I have a comparable outlook as the caller, I’m a similarly aged Scottish white guy who used to be a punk (so some people back in the day might have looked at me and crossed the road), but honestly I love meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures as it enriches my life. My mates and I never missed the annual Muslim fair in Leith (Edinburgh) as you’d meet great people from all walks of life (not just Muslim) - great music, food and company. I kind of feel sorry for the people who are frightened to get to know people that are different from what they think is ‘their own people’ as they are definitely losing out. P.s. I think there are lots of people with a similar outlook on life to this caller (certainly almost everyone I know is that way despite what the media might have you believe)

What a wonderful caller ❤
