Limonene AKA The Happy Terp!

- Lets Talk about D limonene!
Aka 4-isopropenyl-1-methylcyclohexene
- Limonene is a cyclic monoterpene, wehich means it has a ring in its structure
- and notice there are no oxygen molecules (so it’s a terpene, its not a terpenoid)
- just like the other monoterPENES, its Molecular Formula is C10H16
- It has a Molecular weight of 136.2 Da
- however, due to its ring structure, Its Boiling point is at around 352*F (which is a little higher than acyclic monoterps BPs like myrcenes because of the ring
- Limonene is the second MC found terpene in nature behind pinene, and its one of the top 3 most common terps seen in cannabis,
- Besides cannabis, Limonene occurs naturally in many other plant species common to citrus fruits, like lemons, oranges, other citrus fruits, citrus rinds, grapefruit, mandarins, and even non citrusy stuff like rosemary, juniper, even peppermint
Its odor or fragrance has been described as: orangey, citrusy, sweet, and tart,
and it characteristically gives cannabis strains that: citrusy lemony sweet flavor/aroma
Interestingly enough, Limonene is an optically active compound, which means it exists in two enantiomeric forms: R and S.
Whats more, Limonene is kinda special compared to the other terps in that it itself is actually a precursor to several other monoterpenes. Infact, Most of the terps that bear the 1-p-menthene skeleton, are derived from limonene (carveol, carvone, α-terpineol, 1,8-cineole)
research has demonstrated that limonene can easily be converted to α-terpineol and carvone when stored in a variety of conditions
this might help explain the diversity of terps that can be seen on the CoA when a sample if being tested
In addition, limonene seems to have important ecological roles to play
limonene acts as a deterrent to feeding and is toxic to many herbivore species
In addition, when plants exude limonene from their underground structures,
they are able to slow down or even completely deter other plants from growing in their vicinity.
But on a different note,
- I call limonene the Happy terp - Its known to provide uplifting and energizing effects, like a refreshed feeling of happiness,
- And anecdotal reports suggest adding limonene to THC causes the experience to be more cerebral and euphoric
- Due to its structure, Limonene displays high bioavailability with 70% absorption after human pulmonary administration,
- Which means when we sniff this stuff in the air around us, we absorb up to 70% of it
- It was shown to rapidly metabolize and accumulate in fatty body tissues such as adipose tissues and the brain,
- If it can hang out in out tissues, it can certainly effect us to some degree.
- It also easily triggers our olfactory memory, which can triggers feelings of nostalgia, etc.
So this kinda leads us in to the next segment,
What are some of the therapeutic properties that D-limonene has to offer?
Its been shown to be a powerful anxiolytic agent and It’s been shown to be helpful in depression
Which leads us to limonene and its Anti-inflammatory properties
Antinociceptive activity:
Antioxidant activity:
Limonene also demonstrates chemotherapeutic properties
A patent has been filed based on the ability of limonene to ameliorate gastro-esophageal reflux (Harris, 2010) and a commercial capsule preparation is available.

I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK! 🙌💪🙏

Great Video!!
Limonene also makes a great food-safe solvent for the extraction and purification of many compounds
Will try as a solvent for niclosamide dissolution, do you know If in its pure isolated (food additive) idk exactly the process used, i will make sure right now, but likely food grade, being the concentration 96%
Density is 0.840g/ml or 840mg/ml, deemed as safe doses range from 500mg to even 5.000mg a day. I can fractionate easily
Do you know If its fine to use It in this isolated form, sold as flavoring additive' food grade' from a reliable company here with decades of work, If used proper doses ?
@@mobilezeronine2866 I wouldn’t ingest it pure no. It’s supposedly quite irritating to skin and I imagine it would have similar effects when ingested.
new sub now i have to watch them all. 🌿...
great vid
I love limonene. Just smelling a strain like Super lemon haze makes me smile ❤
Ooo yes same here!!!
Thank you for explaining,I was looking at terpenes with THC based medicine alleviate symptoms, I hope I can find these easily in Australasia region.
Great video and great terpene!!
nice informative video! i wonder what is your opinion on those integra boost terpene infusion packs?
So if I throughout my grow, water with eucalyptus my plant is going to produce more D limonene?
Could D-Limonene or Cannabigerol be used to help caffeine tolerance? Caffeine is a A2A receptor antagonist. It helps increase dopamine activity ect. However, those effects diminish with tolerance. Afaik D-Limonene is a A2A receptor agonist. Could it help reverse caffeine tolerance?
Lol the alrighty then reference
🤣
May you please do a video on the terpene “farnasene” I’ve heard only 1 thing about it,I don’t feel comfortable when I see that terpene if you could clear it up for us please
Will do!

I use d limonine for digestion
! I am a medical user in WA vaping various wax and oils for PTSD relief and trying to learn about the breakdown. The brighter tastes interest me a lot which seem to come down to linolene and citrene a lot. Very cool how a natural plant defense ends up this way.
One thing, could you put the study/reference details on screen or in description?
yes of course!
Does anybody know why the weed in the dispensaries are not worth shit?
I tend to experience headaches with strains that contain high limonene.. I’ve often wondered why.
i have seen this before. there are studies that show too high of concentration of some terps can cause this. is this is the situation for you, try experimenting with lower limonene chemovars and try to notice a difference. it seems like you have already found the issue though!
I sub 1st vid . I am here on South flo Look fwd to watch more
awesome bro thank you for the support!! If you decide to come in for an evaluation let me know!
What i want to know is if you put this terp in a diffusor will it change the effect of thx or cbd from a vaping/smoking sesh
Terpenes aren’t psychoactive
Mate , this thing i smelled and it seemed like the “limitless” movie drug!! Wowww
😅😂💪🏻💪🏻
For 10 years I have consumed Cannabis and have noticed that strains with Limonene in them make me feel the best. Most strains lack Limonene, yet I just saw that I can buy an entire bottle for 20 bucks. Can I lip my weed in the liquid and let it dry and than smoke it? I want to know if it is safe.
Hey! DO NOT dip or submerge the flower into the limonene essential oil. I would advise strongly against it because there is no data to support that its safe and there is data that suggests TOO much limonene can make you feel unpleasant/have side effects.
Limonene is easily one of my favorite terps. You don't even have to look at the Certificate of analysis. if the product you bought has limonene, YOU KNOW BY JUST THE SMELL 🤩
@@thecannabisdoc What is the best way to add to flower? thanks in advance
It turns to benzene, toluene, and xylene when over heated.
How hot would you have to get it? I usually smoke joints and take small hits at a time because i feel its cooler smoke and tastes better. Maybe because once it has a cherry, it burns at the pace it wants to as hot as it naturally does as opposed to constantly holding fire to the bowl of a pipe or bong. Obviously you know the science hence me asking how hot would it have to be and how easy is it to unintentionally overheat limonene?
Smoked lemon zest strain and it did not make me happy ☹️
Sswaappp!💥🏌🏽♂️ loved it thanks
