Rwandan-backed M23 rebels declare ceasefire in DRC

The Rwanda-backed rebels who seized the key city of Goma in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo announced a unilateral ceasefire in the region on Monday for humanitarian reasons, following calls for a safe corridor for aid and hundreds of thousands of displaced people.

As an Ethiopian millennial in the diaspora, I support the Banyamulenge and the wider Tutsi and Hima communities throughout the Great Lakes region-you have my unwavering support. I became aware of this forgotten genocide a few years ago. The Hema-Lendu conflict seems even more neglected.
I have visited Rwanda 10 times in the past five years, most recently last week, and I will continue to connect and do business in the country.

I don’t even understand why the international community would accommodate or would accept that a genocidal force remains in eastern DRC for 30 long years threatening a country that suffered a genocide from that particular movement at the same time keeping silent about how Congolese government working with genocidal forces like FDLR to commit genocide against Congolese Tutsi.
