Yours might have had a bad setup in the factory, when I got mine it was perfect action and perfect fret edges and it was just overall an amazing guitar
@@rumble1925 when I was a beginner it served me well, and still continues to serve me well, I got it set up like months ago and it plays amazingly, it’s definitely not a Martin or a Taylor but plays well for sure
I had quit guitar about a year ago and picked up a different instrument, i had told myself i would get back into it if one of 2 things happened: i build my own simple electric, or i fix an old broken one i found. I saw this guitar for 99$ new at my local costco and was considering buying it to start attempting to learn it again
I bought one of these and like Julian Rey mentions mine came straight out of the box fantastic setup smooth fret ends etc. I am totally happy with mine, but I valued your opinion thanks.
Guitars drop-shipped with factory set ups often need a thorough going through. I normally have to dress the frets and bevel the fret ends - sometimes even levelling and re-crowning frets. The often need truss-rod or action set ups too. Occasionally, they need recut nuts, new tuners, or have an internal issue like a loose brace. I generally put 1-2 hours of set up into every guitar I sell, often upgrading parts and strings.
I picked up a used fender dg5 electro acoustic with cut-away today for 80euros with carry case and kysler capo. The action very high both nut end and bridge end. Does anyone know how much they are brand new?
Could someone please help me to decide? I want an acoustic-electric for looping and playfinger style as Nick Drake. I'm not a beginner, I've been playing the guitar since I was 14 years old (now I'm 24). I'm between the Fender FA-125C and the Yamaha APX-600.
I am someone who has never bought or owned a guitar but i have been looking at guitars for some time now and i need recommendations on what guitar i should get. Something under $200 and an all round good guitar. Great vid by the way!
From my experience, never ever buy fender acoustics (even solid tops). Fender Electric is great but they miss the mark on their acoustic lineup. Even with their high end acoustics line up, with that price you can get a low end Martin or taylor that’ll blow it away
I was just about to buy it! I spent one month with FA 125CE on mind and now I don't know what to buy! :( I'm not a beginner, but this was cheap and all around the internet.
Lots of things - the Idyllwild solid cedar and solid spruce models from Monoprice - Cort Earth series guitars - some of the Xavieres from Guitar Fetish - Harley Benton acoustics from Thomann - Alvarez AD series - Yamaha FG series - and lots of others. I've done videos on them all. I'm not a big fan of the FA125 and think there are better things in that price range.
There are lots - I've made hundreds of videos giving out that sort of information. Yamaha 800 series if you can find one in that range - but there are many options these days.
Hey big fella. Thanks a bunch for the heads up re: Fender. I know I'm pretty late but what do you reckon sounds and plays better at the entry level ? Yamaha makes some great acoustics right from beginner to high end. Same could be said for Cort although I haven't played those. What's your take ? Cheers
@@FlowforthInstruments Ahh I see mate. The specific model I was looking for was the Cort AD810 with an open pore finish. Looked and sounded better than most of the Fenders and Yamahas at that price point. Also are you a Liverpool supporter by any chance ?😅
@@FlowforthInstruments Ahh that's good to hear. Was looking for a decent starter guitar to learn and practice. And YNWA from India mate. What a goal that was from the the charming Mo Salah the other day 😮
The 125ce was my first guitar and now after playing my little martin for a few months when I switch you can really make out the difference in sound and the 125 CE sounds horrible. No comparison
Unfortunately some Fender acoustics I've experienced before had pretty bad out of the box setup. An Aria entry level would beat that CD or CS Fender. It's unfortunate that with that name it don't stand up to its quality.
I prefer the Yamahas at the lower end. The CD series are ok but I think Fender shines when you get to the Paramount series, which is a bit more expensive.
Funny, I prefer gloss neck. But that's why they have options. My flying v has no gloss finish. And it bugs me. I played a few Ibanez acoustics at the store and was wishing they had finished the neck in gloss. So I get why people would want one over the other.
I have a huge Fender dreadnaught. I knew nothing about guitars when I actually bought it for someone else. Sounds fantastic but definitely getting a Gibson in July
I was close to buying the Fender FA 125, thanks to your comparison I bought the Tanglewood Blackbird, I saw your video by the greatest coincidence in the world, thanks friend!
Becouse these entry level fender guitars and as well as fender cd 60sce are made in china / indonesia and I've heard china ones are not as good as Indonesian ones

@@rumble1925 Yes, most beginners have to pay for a shop adjustment, which can be a bit expensive.
Thank you, someone who is actually willing to say what you think. Cheers from South Australia.
You are welcome
I'm from SA too haha
I was about to mention Cort but I see someone else mentioned them already, not bad for the money.
Excellent guitars - hope you are keeping well Randy!

Glad you got a good one!
Hi, nice to see your video, appreciate the thought.
Do you recommend for entry level the Yamaha F310?
I think that's a good choice.
You mentioned it was playable with “a setup”. What all have you done to make it more playable?
Guitars drop-shipped with factory set ups often need a thorough going through. I normally have to dress the frets and bevel the fret ends - sometimes even levelling and re-crowning frets. You can do better than both those models for fingerstyle. The yamaha is a lot better - but still thin sounding.
I'm choosing between fender fa 125 and Epiphone dr 100 what do you recommend? Or you have another one you recommend?
I am someone who has never bought or owned a guitar but i have been looking at guitars for some time now and i need recommendations on what guitar i should get. Something under $200 and an all round good guitar. Great vid by the way!
I do a lot of videos on guitars in that price range - the Idyllwild guitars from Monoprise - entry level yamahas, Corts, Harley Bentons, Alvarez, etc.
There are some gorgeous pre-owned guitars st your local music shop. Dudes in there are more than willing to help you make your choice
Go for cort ad810

They Paramount series acoustics are nice but they are quite expensive.
I will. Fender acoustics are garbage. Yamaha has entry level guitars that make Fender guitars sound like firewood.
I agree until you get into the higher echelons of Fender acoustic, the Paramount series for instance.
I was just about to buy it! I spent one month with FA 125CE on mind and now I don't know what to buy! :( I'm not a beginner, but this was cheap and all around the internet.
It's not a bad guitar - I just thing there are better options for that price range. Yamaha, Harley Benton, Sigma, just to name three.
What would you recommend for an A/E for 250 and under? I was looking at the fa125ce mahogany and it looks good. But there might be something better.
Find a epiphone masterbilt, parkwood, maybe a x series martin hpl guitar
What do you think about "Kay" A-guitars in this price range? (about 250)
Old Kays are interesting but often messy restoration projects. I haven't seen the kay reboot guitars yet.
What acoustic do you recommend for playing jazz style guitar? Like bar chords and other jazz chords
Hmmm - many choices and it depends on what shape or sound you want. I've been enjoying my Blueridge guitars the most lately.
Great vid! Many thanks ill stay away from Acoustic Fenders even though i love strats. What do you think about Cort CJ1F?
I think all Corts are good value - but I particularly like the Earth series.
@@FlowforthInstruments Ill give them a try! Thank you
What upgrades did you do to the fender ?
Lots of set up!
Hey man, interesting video. What guitar would you suggest in a price range of 100-150$

what about fender cd60sce??
Fair..
Is Ibanez PF15 a better option?
It's close. Yamaha beats both.
@@FlowforthInstruments which model in particular, in this price range?
@@AliNRehmani Yamaha 700 ot 800 series guitars are excellent value. The model numbers slightly differ depending what shape and size you want.
Just know that every guitar is a beginner or expert guitar. It really if you can pay for the different qualities and personal sounds of a guitar.
Yes, it's all subjective too.

Yes, entry level Yamahas are better than entry level Fenders in my experience.
Mine was a very high quality sound guitar, and was only stained on the back. Very high quality look, feel, and sound.
Glad to hear you got a good one. I like Fender Paramount acoustics - but the ones below that are hit and miss.
Thanks for sharing and telling the truth.

Have to agree with that.
Thanks i brought a second hand dg3 sounds lovely but the fret ends were sharp nasty and I had to do some set up work to ill stay away from the fa 125
Yep, all the time.
Could not agree more dude 🙏. Have a DG3 from 96 which I love but action seems high may have to put in get set up.
Sounds about right...
Hi. How about fender cc-60s, are they not good as well?
Yamaha fg series are much better in that price range
Basswood is about the worst wood that can be used on an acoustic however some high end electric guitars use good basswood cheap basswood is worthless
It is low grade!
This is the one I’m looking to get with cutaway and some other goodies for $300!!!!
Hope you got a good one.
@@FlowforthInstruments I ended up getting a Taylor 214ce koa. Looking back, I prob shoulda gotten the fender ah well
@@DavyDave1313 The only Fender that might rival it is the Paramount series.
The cd60s sells for 199, comes with a solid top and scalloped bracing. I still don't like that glossy neck. The yahmaha 800 is a solid performer

I concur!
I have a huge Fender dreadnaught. I knew nothing about guitars when I actually bought it for someone else. Sounds fantastic but definitely getting a Gibson in July
There are some good ones - I just don't rate their entry level models that highly.
noooo anything but a gibson
9 people got burnt buying one
Some of them make ok guitars - I just think Fender excels more when you get to their midrange models.

Better guitars are made in those countries too.
reye man
It isn't a Fender, it's Cortek with a Fender logo!
Not even sure it's a Cort.
That’s odd, i have no problems with the Fender guitar and I think the material, wood, and sound is great. It may be a little big though.
Glad you got a good one. I've set up dozens and find that the entry level ones are often lacking. Their mid-range models get better though.
The thing is out of tune!!! Stop bashing any guitar and TUNE IT!!!!! Damn
