  • I used the iFixit kit to replace the battery in the lower half of the Surface Book 2 15". This is a 5 out of 5 difficulty!

I just finished doing the battery change on my Surface Book 2. I previously changed the battery in my Surface Pro 7 which involved removing the screen and most of the components. That was a 5 out of 5. This one was a 3 out of 5 for me by comparison.

thanks for showing, now I know for sure not to put too much effort in repairing the keyboard part 🙂. My customer dropped water on the keyboard and after that it's not turning on anymore.

Yeah, unfortunately not really worth the repair

    Great video.
Could you please share what the 2x battery types/ model numbers required for the surface book 2 15" screen and keyboard base?

At the beginning of your video I was going to criticize you for making a "repair video" discouraging repair and only showing a time lapse, but after seeing all that scraping and the weariness in your voice at the end, I've come around on it! Only my keyboard is going, so I guess I'll just stick with the external one I got to supplement it.
Do you recommend any product rating sites with good info on repairability? Definitely something I'll be thinking about on my next purchase...

Has anyone had an experience with the charging after replacement? I changed mine last year and it's not charging the way it used to. I ordered the replacement through Amazon. After changing the battery, it's not charging through the original charger. I thought I was a goner until I remembered that you could charge a Surface book 2 through the USB C using a 75W PD charger. And that's the only way I charge it now. The OG charger works only if the battery of the keyboard is at 87%. Below that, you need to charge it through USB-C, which is slower than the original with a whopping 180W rate.

Weird, haven't seen that. I also have never owned a surface, but the client has never brought anything up after this was completed

my original charger and its first replacement broke, and I've been using a Nintendo Switch USB-C charger since then because I already had one and they're cheaper than the replacement, which you're unlikely to find in stores anymore unlike the Nintendo one. the only thing I miss about the old one is the L-shaped connection since I can't lean it on the side its plugged in anymore, but worth avoiding the hassle of replacements to me. Interesting its actually more compatible with replacement batteries, wouldn't have expected that.

How about replacing the mechanical keyboard in this unit? What''s the difficulty level on that and is it possible?

      I unfortunately don't think it's possible.

Come on, cheer up! Everyone has their price. It CAN be done. 😂💸💸💸
SERIOUSLY though - where is our elected leadership requiring repairability for long life? Disgusting waste of resources and pollution. - as I type this on my own SBP2 👼👼. My next device- which looks to be coming soon, will be high quality, high enough performance, portable- but easily SERVICEABLE for long life. It will be pricey at first, but over my planned life of 8 years, will be very inexpensive, reliable, and a joy to use every day.
